As announced back on the 16th of Februrary, 2012: Bukkit is now following a new release system that enables us to better cater to the countless various types of Server Admins out there. This new system allows us to provide those of you who want quicker updates with new Beta releases, while still providing those of you who would like peace of mind when updating your server with well tested Recommended Build releases. As a result, we ask that plugin developers, game server providers and everyone else please move to supporting the various cycles of our new release system so that we may fully utilise the usefulness and potential this new system provides us with.
What is the difference between a Beta Build and a Recommended Build? A Beta Build:
Has not been thoroughly tested, so may contain minor bugs.
May have incomplete features.
May have incomplete API.

There is no way for anyone to illegitimately gain op on your server unless you are running your server in offline mode. Any program in existence that claims otherwise is trying to lure you into running it (in an effort to see if your server is at risk) to steal your information.
You'll notice that in every video you either have to have the program running before you login or need to login, run the program and restart Minecraft. Even if this is not the case, it is fairly simple to put together a fake, convincing video by simply modifying the client to respond to "/op" and print local messages to make it seem like the user has gotten op.
Regardless, any programs offered for download accompanying these videos or public reports of op force hacking or the like are usually sending the creator an email that says something...
A new CraftBukkit Beta Build 1.2.3-R0.2 (#2060) that provides Minecraft 1.2.3 compatibility, fixes issues in 1.2.3-R0.1 and a critical crash exploit is now available. As always, please remember to backup your servers before updating, just in case. As this new beta does include critical fixes, updating is highly recommended.
Notable changes in this new beta include: a temporary fix for the entity interactivity issue, a critical crash exploit fix and a fix for the block transmuter exploit among many other bug fixes, improvements and changes. If you find that you can't interact with entities, try relogging back into the server.
Will plugins break with this build?

What is a Beta Build?
A Beta Build is in between a developer build and a Recommended Build. These builds simply work and are...
