I was using Essentials until i decided to swap over to Commandbook. However a part of Essentials was the ability to manage groups through GroupManager, or EssentialsGM.

Can i leave GroupManager in while taking Essentials out?

Another issue is Essentials had a configuration that allowed you to format a users name in chat, i.e
    <Owner> Stimson: Hello world!

where else can i implement that?

Currently i have WorldEdit, WorldGuard, and CommandBook.

Well IDK to much but this is what i do know if u have the group manager the easiest way to do it for me is typing /mangadd [Group] then /mangaddv [Group] prefix &3[&2Member&3] the &2 and &3 r colors and then if you want them to have a permission you do /mangaddp [Group] essentials.hat or somthing like that and to move people to certain groups type /manuadd [Player] [Group]

Commandbook does not manager permissions and groups, you can keep group manager for that. Also you will need another chat plugin or you can keep essentials chat.
