Newbie with plugin issue

Hey all

I have a 6yr old minecraft obsessed son so i though i would try and get into this minecraft stuff so i can play with him.
I had an old computer so i decided to set up a server that we and his family could all play.
I installed Unbuntu server 14.04 and followed a tutorial.
I used the download link "craftbukkit-1.8.7-R0.1-SNAPSHOT-latest.jar" and all seem to install ok.
I managed the port forwarding bit and have spent a few hours playing on the server with my son.

I wanted to install the essentials plugin so i followed another tutorial and using the script i downloaded the Essentials.zip into my plugins folder.

i rebooted the server and stopped it and then rebooted again, but when i check in the game using /pl it says i have no plugins...?

Im pretty knew to both minecraft and linux so im hoping someone out there can guide me through the possible problem..

oLL_s_Minecraft_Server_GUI_Plugin.jar
but that wont show up either. ?

 

All it says is to put the file into the plugins folder, which i im pretty sure i have done..

 

how exactly do i post my log there?

@smartypants18 You have to use the updated version of Essentials, which was made by the Spigot team. https://hub.spigotmc.org/jenkins/job/Spigot-Essentials/

 

so would i copy insatll these one at at a time?
any idea while the other download "oLL_s_Minecraft_Server_GUI_Plugin.jar" will not work?
