[INACTIVE][FUN] NeoMeteorites 0.4 - meteorites falling from the sky [798]

    This plugin will spawn meteorites falling to the earth. On collission with the ground they will explode and leave a random ore covered by obsidian.
    The default spawning rate is a chance of about 8% per minute (one player online).

    Edit the plugins/NeoMeteorites/config.yml
    likeEveryXMinutesPerChunk: Sets the chance of a meteroite getting spawned.
    The chance is set at 1 / (likeEveryXMinutesPerChunk / chunksThatAreLoaded).
    If set to default (6000) and there is one player online, there is a spawning chance of ~8%. At 12000, it is ~4%. When more players are online (means more loaded chunks, the spawning rate will increase).
    blocks: The block ids a meteorite can consist of.
    shell: The block id of the material which covers the blocks obove.
    fancyExplosionSize: The size of the explosions that are caused when the meteorite is in the air.
    explosionSize: The size of the impact explosion. Set it to 0.0 to disable it.
    numberOfExplosions: A meteorite can explode several times on the ground (it makes more damage).

    /meteorite - Will spawn a meteorite somewhere
    /meteorite here - A meteorite will hit the block you are looking at
    /meteorite playername - Self-explanatory

    • You can't see meteorites, when they are too far away (explosion particles won't be displayed - When making the screenshot I was using a client mod, which disabled that). You can still hear the explosions.
    • Sometimes meorites will only fire if you come close.
    • One time for a server start you have to left click in the air to get meteorites working (I don't know why, also comfirm this please)

    Just saw a crater from one :D

    Its prettty sexy!

    I would love a command to strike a meteor on a spot.. I know it would be complicated but ya :/

    needs to also be a config option of size. size=1-3 can be changed to size=1-2 or something like that. So they dont leave as huge of holes in the ground xD

    Btw... Having an item that would summon a meteor to hit your target, when you right click, would be the most epic thing ever. Would that be possible?

    Very interested in this plugin. Will be giving it a go when you have a command to manually trigger them, as well as the ability to control damage/crater size. I've no problem with them hitting player's houses, as long as I can make it so they won't damage the building, but instead spawn in a crater NEXT to the house.

    i just downloaded the plugin and set it to 1min per chunk to see what is is like.

    after a while of hunting for meteors i came home and found a ball of obsidian in my house.
    the wooden planks, glass, chests, furnaces, crafting tables, and beds where all in tact. the only difference was part of my floor had a chunk of obsidian lodged inside it.

    was this a glitch? or do the meteors only affect natural blocks?

    I for one think that it would be neat if you could add a compass feature that the meteorites would have some kind of magnetic feild that would attract compasses for adventury puproses! haha

    Great Plugin!
    However there is things to be taken into consideration

    I loaded this plugin and quite hilariously (not for the victim) a meteor struck the same house twice that being said lol... is there a way to control which chunks meteorites can impact on?
    or possibly being able to control the blast radius of the impact

    Also the Config format is quite hard to make sense of :eek: is there a way to simplify it?
    ie changing the data value changes the interval a meteorite can impact (counting for all loaded chunks) like 15 = 15 minutes (not ingame time) a meteor will crash down

    This plugin looks really interesting, however due to the comments already made, I don't want to implement it into my server until I know it won't just trash the things the players have made. :/ I think i'll watch this one

    Very nice! I like it alot! The only things I would change are...
    Config file
    Blast radius
    Shape of meteor (it is just a blob right now. Maybe more rounded? if possible)
    Make to where it only hits/destroys naturally accuring blocks.
    And the infamous ability to shoot them at will.
    I also really like the Compass idea!
    All in all, This is a very unique and good pluggin!!

    What did you think this plugin was, clearly says metorites.

    Requesting support for multi worlds, so meteorites can be set up to occur in defined worlds.

    lol at this. this plugin if you could change the chance and make a command that showers meteorites, eg
    meteor shower :D... or if u want you can like make it a skill that shoots meteors at people
    that would cause alot of chaos but will be fun lol

    what client mod did you use to be able to see it from far off? also the config file i'm not sure what to put to have 1 fall every min... do i put 60? or 6000? or what? x-x i guess i just dont understand the configs format lol...

    Would be nice if there was a way to make an cuboid selection of where meteor's wont fall, So I can make the towns safe while people building houses outside of town take the risk.

    Yea, I am torn... totally wanna throw this in there but would hate to ruin some really nice structures :p personally... let it crater dirt, and nothing else?

    Totally epic though I seriously applaud you for this addition. I was seriously thinking when 1.5 came out OMG Meteors would be cool, but prolly would never happen and then BAM your like the Java Messiah.

    Wow... I noticed this plugin, and I think I like it!
    but as per a lot of people's suggestions, I'd also like a way to protect my structures - I'd hate to see some of them turned to swiss cheese. X3 *downloads nonetheless*
  22. Bigger number = higher chance do drop a meteor
    Little number = low chance to drop a meteor

    Play with it and you will see

    max count of an meteor is 1 every min

    would be nice if you can set an area were it can't fall down (worldedit?)

    read this:
    "So the higher you set this option, the more the chance will drop."
    that means a higher number will spawn less meteorites
    (if you are german i can explain it in german, just send me a message)

    chill out i think he/she will add it that you can set areas were it can't spawn

    ps: only kids rage like that because of a game :p

    I've tried 1, 6000, and 90000000. Not a single meteorite was seen.

    i love the idea with the totem, it should have a great range or a toggleable by rightklicking the obsidian and than left klick for first position, right klick for second position (like in worldedit) and this area would be protected

    My observations:
    Set at the default of 6000, I got an average of about 1 per hour. Not real scientific, but I had the plugin enabled for about 4-ish hours and got 4 meteor strikes. I only noticed the 4th because it landed nearby. The others were found once I did a careful check of the online map.

    All big 3x3-ish ones. Since they will only land in loaded chunks, it is all the more likely that a construction will get damaged. I thought there were different sizes -- maybe I just got unlucky to get hit by 4 big ones?

    The sound it makes is a Ghast fireball explosion. It'd be nice if it was a little more dramatic, like maybe thunder + ghast fireball.

    Thanks for the feedback!

    I implemented some of you suggestions: more options and the ability to launch meteorites at your own.
    Details are in the changelog.

    Additional, i changed how the spawn areas are generated. Now, I randomly generate the impact location instead of the starting location. This will allow to protect areas in future versions.

    Something about the meteorites: in fact they are ghast fireballs (which are invisible). Every time they move, they cause a little explosion (with a size of 1.0 what matches a ghast fireball). You can see the dust then and hear them. On impact, they cause a bigger explosion which actually makes damage.

    I know, the likeEveryXMinutesPerChunk option is confusing. It's done that way because I want the spawn rate to be in relation to the number of loaded chunks. When you set this option to 60, a single chunk will be hit about every hour (if only a few chunks are loaded).

    Seems like an awesomely double-edged sword of a plugin.
    On one hand it's totally amazing concept. On the other...it destroys hard work...

    I think it should also glass any nearby sand and turn grass to dirt.
