Old description (open)
If you enjoy fighting monsters for glorious prizes or just the sheer thrill of battle, you and your friends can now join forces against hordes of Minecraft evils in the exciting gladiator-style survival mini-game MobArena!

Heavily inspired by Deminetix' Fight-plugin, MobArena is a PvE-take on arena-gameplay, with a similar class-based system. Instead of fighting other players, you team up with them to beat oncoming waves of monsters, earning rewards in the process. MobArena can be played alone, or with as many friends as you like!

• Fight oncoming waves of monsters
• Play alone or team up with friends
• Earn glorious prizes
• Customizable classes, rewards and waves
• Easy to set up
• Extremely easy to use
• Very few user commands
• Supports Permissions and all major economies
• Supports Spout
• Supports Heroes
Note: When you post a bug report, please provide a stacktrace/error from the server log/console window. Post this stacktrace in either a pastebin, a pastie, or a CODE-block! The same applies for config-files, permissions-files, etc! Please don't put them directly in your posts, as they become gigantic and annoying to read. If you don't follow this guideline, I might ignore your post!

Wiki - Instructions, commands, FAQ, etc.
I have set up a Wiki for MobArena. It contains a bunch of information and guides on how to set up and customize arenas, an overview of all the commands, how to set up Permissions, as well as frequently asked questions.

New: MobArena now has its own IRC channel (#mobarena @ EsperNet). Click here for a web-based IRC client. Feel free to stop by to get help setting everything up if you really don't understand the Wiki and the instructional video, or to have a chat about MobArena (or anything else, for that matter) :)

To avoid wasting not only your own time, but mine as well, I expect everyone to do some extensive troubleshooting before posting bug reports. What does this mean?

Try MobArena on a fresh server.
MobArena works perfectly fine when I release it. Sure, there are a few bugs, but it works. If it doesn't work for you, something is most likely wrong on your end. Set up a local test-server, and verify that MobArena works before claiming that it doesn't. When you have verified that MobArena does indeed work, you can start adding other plugins and settings until something conflicts.

Disable other plugins.
The first thing you need to do is disable all other plugins. If you can't reproduce the bug with other plugins disabled, you know that you have a conflicting plugin. Now perform a binary search on the other plugins, or if you don't know how to do that, just add a couple of plugins back to the plugins-folder, try to reproduce the bug, and if you can't, the conflicting plugin must be in the remaining set of plugins.

Write down reproduction steps.
Figure out the exact steps to reproduce/trigger the bug. I need precise steps, and as much information as possible, because there are often many things that could be going on. An example of reproduction steps could be:
1. Type /ma join
2. Punch the Archer class sign
3. Wait for someone else to join
4. Punch the iron block
5. Type /ma leave before the other player picks a class

Check the console window/server.log
Make sure you check the server.log file for any MobArena errors or exceptions. If you find any, copy the ENTIRE exception (including all the lines that say "at com.garbagemule.MobArena...") and paste it (with the other information) in a CODE-tag here in the thread.

I develop MobArena for the fun of it and the positive feedback is all it takes to make me happy, but a few people have asked for a link, so if you're one of them, here's a link: Donate - You can donate as much as you want, even down to a few cents! If I get enough donations, I will spend the money on an extra Minecraft account to aid me in developing/testing/debugging MobArena :)

• Updated for CB 1337.
• The repair-delay node is now unused! The reason for this is that it is now possible (with the release of 1317) to cancel block damage in explosions, and still retain the animation and sound! This also means that arenas should be fully pistons-compatible (for arenas that don't use soft-restore or force-restore)! I'm hoping to see some screenshots and videos of shifting arenas! :)
• You can now right-click signs in the lobby! I finally found a super easy solution to the improperly updating inventory issue with right-clicking class signs. The result is that players can now left- or right-click as they please. This should solve all issues related to players not being able to choose classes, due to spawn region and WorldGuard/Factions/whatever conflicts.
• It is no longer possible to warp out of the lobby.
• New per-arena setting: final-wave - Allows for setting a final wave, meaning on that wave, the arena will end, regardless of how many players are alive.
Version (open)

• v0.94.3.11 - Updated Register, built against CB 1240.
• v0.94.3.8 - Added basic leaderboards.
• v0.94.3.6 - Fixed MagicSpells support - MobArena no longer supports MagicSpells pre-v1.1!
• v0.94.3.5 - Fixed a bunch of bugs introduced with CB 1185, as well as a couple of minor MobArena bugs.
• Updated for CraftBukkit #1185
• Updated economy support (now supports iConomy 6).
• Added the three new mob types, Enderman/Endermen, CaveSpider/CaveSpiders, Silverfish. They can be used just like the other mob types in the waves.
• Endermen cannot pick up arena blocks (this is why).
• Endermen cannot place blocks in arena regions.
• The per-class permission syntax has been fixed and changed slightly. The Wiki has been updated (clicky).
• Fixed MagicSpells issues.
Version 0.94.2 (open)

• Redstone circuits now work properly in arenas.
• Lightning now properly strikes on spawnpoints on special waves.
• Fixed an issue where players somehow warping/cheating out of the arena world get kicked from the server when discovered.
• Added MagicSpells support. Use the magicspells.yml file to ban certain spells from the arena either for the whole session, or only during boss waves.
• Fixed the Heroes death conflict. MobArena and Heroes should now play nice together. Further Heroes support is planned for upcoming releases.
• MobArena will no longer support the discontinued Permissions 2.x and 3.x permission systems. Recommended permissions systems include PermissionsBukkit (defacto standard) or PermissionsEX.
Version 0.94.1 (open)

• Added two new boss abilities: 'shuffle-positions' and 'flood'. Try them out!
• Players disconnecting/crashing during an arena session no longer get corrupted data files due to economy rewards.
• Weapon durability is now correctly set to "unlimited".
• Item sub-types (cocoa beans, bonemeal, colored wool, etc.) now work again.
• Players can no longer join the arena without first picking a class.
• MobArena now works with spawn-monsters=false again.
Version 0.94 (open)

• Completely revamped the waves system! Undeniably the biggest feature in MobArena since multiple arenas in v0.92, the new customizable waves are guaranteed to bring much more awesomeness to your MobArenas. The waves system brings two new wave types, swarm waves and boss waves. The latter is a very elaborate feature, and the whole waves system has been given its own page on the Wiki. Note: MobArena will ignore all old wave settings, but use sane defaults.
• Revamped the logging system. Instead of logging: true, you can now use logging: yml/xml. The logging system will now keep track of the last session only, but also maintain a collection of 'totals' for each arena. The idea behind these easy-to-parse files is making the stats available on server web pages.
• Added SuperPerms/PermissionsBukkit support. Note that specifying mobarena.arenas.* and mobarena.classes.* probably won't work, but these nodes are given to everyone by default.
• Added Spout support. Currently, the only Spouty thing MobArena does is print (some) announcements as notifications/achievements. This should limit the amount of "chat spam" that MobArena produces. Other Spout-features are planned, but don't expect something crazy. Note that MobArena does NOT require Spout!
• Monsters will no longer target pet wolves. This is a major nerf to pet classes, but they were very overpowered as it was.
• Fixed item amounts greater than 64 sometimes bugging out. You should now be able to put arrow:1024 for your Archer classes :)
• Fixed players losing their stored items and/or earned rewards upon disconnecting from the arena.
• Fixed blocks not restoring when burned by fire.
• Fixed an issue with entry fees. They should no longer cause any problems.
• Fixed slimes. That's right! Slimes that spawn as a result of bigger slimes splitting upon death are now considered arena monsters. This also means that Slimes no longer drop slime balls; as intended.
• Revamped the repairing algorithm. It is now MUCH more sophisticated, and is capable of repairing not only signs and containers, but also torches, doors and beds. Redstone -should- repair properly as well, but it is still slightly buggy.
• Added support for restorable containers. Registered chests, dispensers, and furnaces will have their contents stored upon arena start, and restored at arena end. This is useful for providing the arena players with chests with e.g. upgrades or food.
• Added new commands (for the feature above) - /ma addcontainer <name>, /ma delcontainer <name>, /ma containers. These commands work much like the the spawnpoint commands. To add a container, simply look at the container and type /ma addcontainer <name>.

thanks! i know the id list but what I wanted is a reference list to write the items in words for better overview (e.g. fishing_rod)
most of them I found out myself but e.g. 'redstone_torch' is wrong, i can workaround this by using the id but I'd like to write it as words so anyone can imagine the class' abilities by seeing the config file!
3. Offline

don't use underscore.. e.g. woodenpickaxe, stonepickaxe like that..
4. Offline

Unfortunately you're wrong!
'fishing_rod' is right written with underscore! and it's not woodenpickaxe as you wrote, instead it's wood_pickaxe or red_rose or wood_plate BUT strange but true it's NOT redstone_torch :(

thought there's kinda reference out there but it seems that I'm wrong...
thanks anyway

Any fixes you found to not getting rewards?
8. Offline

I've been using /kill on myself and for some reason that makes them show up.

I've found a way to sort out the reward bug. Look forward to v0.90.2.

@s1ck3st - Read the instructions on setting up the config-file.

No problem :) AdminCmd tells me all the names that MobArena uses :)

My daughter had woke me up before my first post in this thread saying she had some of her personal wolves with her and did /ma join and they followed her into the arena, where they later died in the waves...I then used an admin command to give myself tamed wolves and confirmed that I could also take them in with /ma join and that they were still with me inside the arena itself.

Updated to v0.90.2
Quick reward bugfix, but perhaps more interesting is the fact that MobArena now works with spawn-monsters=false! That's right, you can now be a pansy and have monsters turned off in your world, but then go ahead and prove to everyone that you're not THAT much of a pansy by showing them you can reach wave 20 in MobArena! ;)

@I_Am_N:confused:ne - You're doing something wrong. Figure out what, and report back here when you have actually tried to hunt down the bug :)

@strupan - MobArena's config is only set up with the basic settings, not the coordinates - that wouldn't make any sense. Imagine if MobArena spawned a working arena randomly in the world :p As for your wave questions, they've been answered before in a slightly ridiculing way. Do you REALLY want to set up over 20 different waves, or would you prefer the waves to be random? Trust me when I say, you don't want the latter.

@Squidoris - I know MobArena is a bit difficult to set up, but I was hoping it would be a one-time thing for most people, so that's how I justify it to myself ;) Locker Room is not gonna happen. Like tuderen says, it's an enormous amount of bloat and extra setting up people will have to do to get MobArena working. In the future, MobArena MIGHT save players' inventories when they join, but I don't like people complaining at me because their server crashed and people lost their items. Put up a locker room like tuderen suggests, and let people warp there to store their stuff. As for an undo command, it means having to store information that probably won't be used most of the time. What keeps you from simply setting p1 and p2 again? :)

@Koolpopsicle - Editing while the arena is running or "only ops allowed to edit" is not gonna happen either. Use force end to stop the arena, enabled false to prevent players from joining, protect false to allow editing, and then protect true and enabled true. Sorry, but the listeners are already crowded with checks, and there will be a couple more as soon as Permissions support lands. If your players are messing with the arena structure despite you telling them not to, ban them.

@ArcFox @Ratchet @morizuki @LeGenDaryX @ClonedInsanity @Jeyge - Reward bug is fixed in v0.90.2. The problem occurs because the rewards are given "too soon", even though they are given at the very end. I added a ~1-second delay to the reward method, so it should work properly now.

@vasil7112 - You're neglecting a lot of whitespace by hitting the Enter key so much :( Anyway, remove all your plugins but MobArena and check if the problem persists. If not, you have a conflicting plugin, like Koolpopsicle says.

@Hmmm - Set p1 and p2 yourself an reduce away :)

@fugue2005 - Can you please give me the (rounded) coordinates of where the arena was before, and where it is now? There might be a problem with my region-checker with negative values (although there shouldn't be). I need p1 xyz and p2 xyz, for both locations, please :)

@Flamers - I'll try to get rid of wolves before arena start and introduce pet classes instead. Thanks for the info :)

@George Nico - I have no idea what you're talking about, sorry. The others?

@Rpa;otj - Alright! I think I might have to get rid of people's tamed wolves when they join, but if you ask them to sit, I don't think they will follow you, right? So just as a precaution for when pet classes arrive, get your daughter to tell her wolves to sit before joining so she won't lose them later ;)

@s1ck3st - It's alright, but do read the instructions on the config-file. There is one link in that spoiler that you will find useful :)

unfortunately i don't remember the exact spots where i made the first one.

but this is the second one. from the config file
yaw: 0.0
pitch: 0.0
z: -170.3448638503395
y: 55.0
world: world
x: 56.34375
yaw: 0.0
pitch: 0.0
z: -142.34375
y: 68.0

@fugue2005 - Ah that's unfortunate. Maybe if you can remember just the general area of the last spot? Can you check if it was around 0,0,0 or something like that?

Yes we have not been taking wolves into the arena, and everyone on the server had been told to make their wolves sit/stay before doing /ma join. If it were possible maybe if they have a wolf following them it could say "You must make your wolf stay before you can join the arena!" similar to how it currently acts when trying to join while having items in your possession. Also, thanks a lot for allowing this to bypass spawn-monsters=false. I had a question about this feature. If I have worldguard set to a cuboid around my city that encompasses mob arena and blocks mobs from spawning in within the region, would mob arena bypass that as well? Right now I just had this cuboid set to pvp deny and had plans to later block mobs from spawning at all in and/or around our city!
19. Offline

wohoho nice it's working :D
20. Offline

@Rpa;otj if that doesn't work you could just stop mobs spawning in several area that cover everything except the arena?
21. Offline

@Rpa;otj - What MobArena actually does, is that it sets spawn-monsters=true when the arena starts, but then blocks all monster spawns outside of the arena during the arena session. I'm not sure how much trouble this causes with other plugins that might be spawning monsters in the meantime, but it's the best (and least bloated) solution I could come up with. I don't think it will override WorldGuard's cuboids, as they simply say "If the spawn event happens in this cuboid, cancel it." Of course, I could investigate setting the priority higher in MobArena, and uncancelling events if they happen inside the arena region. I'll get back to you with more information later :)

@morizuki - I'm so glad to hear this! As soon as most of the major bugs are weeded out, I will begin working on pet classes, leaderboards and Permissions and economy support.

Yeah, because of that I would like to make creepers more OP, so they just can destroy the shelter. With enough players, you could build a shelter with the default randomguy thing.
24. Offline

Thank you for a quick response! I can of course set mobarena as its own region within the parent region with mob spawning allowed with no problems. I wasn't requesting for it to override worldguard as I'm sure you have much more important features to work on, I was just curious as to whether it would work as-is because then I could just delete that region and have less "clutter". I also really appreciate this plugin and more time is spent on my server doing the arena than is spent building things it seems =)
25. Offline

The one thing that I'm having trouble is when I'm going to another world (cause my arena is in another world).. it won't let me join, but if I reload my server, it will work for some reason.. dunno what the cause.. i disable all the plugins except multiverse and mobarena.. and still occur.. I tried also the other plugin for travelling world to world like NetherPortal..but still having the same issue.. My config is also good and the world name is correct..
26. Offline

@Robbie Pusey - I'm glad you're enjoying MobArena, and I'm very flattered to hear you set up an account just to thank me! If you have built a custom arena, how about using the account to also post some screenshots of it? :3

@Ineentho - I'm afraid the timer-stuff might be a bit bloaty if I need to start a delayed task for every creeper spawned. Also, I'll admit I have no idea if you can actually provoke a creeper's explode event. Maybe you know a way?

@Rpa;otj - No worries! I was just looking into it, but I'll admit I don't know how to disable monster spawns within... Wait, I've been using WorldEdit, not WorldGuard... *facepalm* I'll look into it in a bit! >.<

@morizuki - I'm not sure what the reason for this is, and I haven't actually tried the multiworld stuff, as I don't use it on any of my own servers. So what I hear you saying is that when you load your server, you can't join unless you are in the same world as the arena, but if you reload the plugins, it works just fine? Or did I misunderstand?
27. Offline

uh.. sort of.. because if I'm in the default world and reload the server, and goes to the same world as the arena, it will work out..
28. Offline

@morizuki - That's very strange. MobArena uses the world-node in the config-file when it warps players around. Can you try booting up the server, then take a look in the config-file as soon as it is loaded, and verify that the world-node is indeed the world your arena is located in?

Ok I think the problem is, The MobArena is the first one booting up before the MultiVerse..

@morizuki - I'm not sure what MultiVerse actually does, or how it handles worlds, but it does make sense that if the world isn't loaded, MobArena can't get the world's handle, which is what happens on line 235 in MAUtils.java. Just for the heck of it, try renaming MobArena.jar to zMobArena.jar and see if the problem persists. The server loads plugins in alphabetical order, and renaming the .jar like I mentioned will force MobArena to be loaded after MultiVerse. This won't have any actual effect on the functionality of MobArena or any other plugins, so it's completely safe to do.
