Hi. I have a batch file that gets fired off every half hour that backs the world up. I just went to do a restore, and when I load the world in MCedit the spawn and a large area around it is just.. gone:

Is backing up that way bad? Should the server be stopped before the zip of the world is made, or is something else perhaps wrong here? Thanks!

Nevermind, got my own answer. I watched the progress as I zipped and saw:

Adding File: server/region/r.2.-3.mcr Deflating (22.0%), done.
Adding File: server/region/r.2.-4.mcr Deflating (37.1%), done.
Adding File: server/region/r.2.0.mcr PKZIP: (W8) Warning! Could not open file C:/Games/Minecraft/s
    erver/region/r.2.0.mcr
Adding File: server/region/r.2.1.mcr PKZIP: (W8) Warning! Could not open file C:/Games/Minecraft/s
    erver/region/r.2.1.mcr

Adding File: server/region/r.2.2.mcr Deflating (31.6%), done.
Adding File: server/region/r.2.3.mcr Deflating (35.8%), done.

So yea, I guess it's a bad thing to zip whilst the server is running.

You can zip while the server is running, however you should always run "save-all" followed by "save-off" before you start the backup, then "save-on" when the backup is done
