I know what most of you are thinking as you read the title, but I have searched up and down the internet and have yet to find a solution to my issue. I am running ubuntu server 12.04, and just installed java, and bukkit. When I go to start bukkit it get the following error: Code: [WARNING] **** FAILED TO BIND TO PORT! [WARNING] The exception was: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: method java.net.ServerSocket.setPerformancePreferences with signature (III)V was not found. [WARNING Perhaps a server is already running on that port? I have, rebooted, loaded into a desktop environment and checked task manager for any java or other process running, and nothing is running, according to netstat the port isnt in use either. Hopefully someone can help.
Alright, I finally found a solution, Make sure you have the proper Java version installed, it turns out the java version I had was not compatible.
