Is there any way to use MySQL as file source at the moment? Or is that coming with the final release?

Only if you have a plugin that requires it. CraftBukkit itself doesn't use MySQL or SQLite.

Thanks for the fast reply. One more question: Will CraftBukkit have MySQL as a file source, like hMod?

Possibly, but I can't say for sure. Unless you run a really big server, MySQL will slow you down more than it helps though.

Wow, I just thought of this a few days ago and someone beat me to it. :p

Disk IO seems to be the limiting factor on my MC server. With a MySQL file store, I can distribute the data across several small servers. Instead of going all out and buying the best motherboard with a bunch of SSDs in raid, I can use my already existing bank of 1U MySQL servers to load balance reads and writes.

    Thoughts?
