I got a new pc today and im gonna use it as my server.
    This are the specs:

    Windows 7
    AMD 64 3800+ (2 ghz dual core) (am2 motherboard)
    4gb ddr2 memory
    sata hard drive

    Internet specs:
    100 mbps download speed
    10 mbps upload speed

How much people could i have in this bukkit server without issues??

25 - 30 ... 30 should be max. You need more ram to get more people.

Thanks for replying! What would be the maximum i could get by adding more memoy?

@LeGenDaryX Hey man I have a 4GB comp, and I run my bukkit server through hamachi. I have NO lag at all and neither do others, with a 25 player max. I think it could handle like 40 or so though. Hamachi really helps me out.

None of my players have lag even when I have itunes, google chrome, and my own minecraft open.

If you're not running it on hamachi then idk... I just really recommend hamachi. Easy to set up, no port forwarding, no lag.

And did I say 4gb? I mean 3 GB is what I have. Works 100% smooth.

Wow that sounds really good. I also use hamachi (for some players). But would my processor and internet speed be good enough for 40 people?

    Hamachi is worthless.

It's not worthless, just for those who can't open their ports.

So i dont have to worry about using hamachi to improve performance? Because my ports are open so that
    ain't a problem for me.

If you have the ability to forward your ports, you should be able to handle 40 players, Just dont have a TON of programs open. And I mean, unless your server becomes very well known... you will not have 40 member online at once.

Hamachi doesn't really affect performance. As for 10 mb up about 8-10 excluding yourself for seemless operations, bit more if you don't mind slower loads. As for memory and processing, you'll be using one core if you run minecraft and probably about a gig of ram so you'll be down that should you decide to play minecraft and run the server at the same time.

The server is a dedicated server. It only runs windows 7, gamebooster and the Minecraft Server itself. 40 players sounds awesome although i will probably never get it. And the ports are forwarded!.

I play on the server from my other pc!
does it really need 1mb per person upload speed?

You dont need 1Mbps per person.

For a 60 person server you really only need 10-15Mbps.

I think 2GHz core might be your bottleneck for40-60 player server.

I think i should be fine with what i have right now.
Im still a bit confused though because everyone says a lil different but i probably will get a minimum of 30 players without lag right?

    Also i found this:
    http://canihostaminecraftserver.com/
Dont know if it is right though!

BTW I hear people say that a minecraft server doesn't use multiple cores.
But my server is running MUCH better now on my dual core 2ghz.
Instead of my recently 2 servers i had wich were a:

    Intel p4 3,2ghz

    and a

    AMD athlon 64 bit 3500+ 2.2 ghz.

Chunk upload speed prior to or 1.6 used about 150kB/s speed to send chunks. I haven't actually measured since 1.6 but I'd assume it's about the same. You need about 8kB/s per player substained course more with each additional player. So yes for seemeless operations you'll need least 1mb per player, but it's given that not everyone on the server needs to load chunks at the same time, and that even if more players are trying to load chunks at the same time than your cap, the loading will just be slowed down prior to players experiencing actual lag. At any rate, 8-10 seemless, more if you don't really care.
