I think many of us with less powerful servers or connection speeds would appreciate if a server could dynamically change the view distance of the server as more people log in. When more people log in, the view distance goes down to compensate for the "Can't keep up" messages. Sorry if i'm asking for a plugin that's impossible to make due to missing hooks and such. Also, excuse me if i make it sound so simple. I bet it's harder than I believe it is. Thanks!
Umm... There's been an option to change the view distance since Minecraft 1.6. You don't even need Bukkit. Only problem is there's a bug where if you set it any lower than 10, mobs spawn rarely and in weird patterns. You may wanna wait until Notch (or the Bukkit team) fixes this before messing with it, but it can be found in your server.properties file. Valid values are 3 to 15.
Umm well I want one that switches dynamically as more people enter the server, so that when few people are on they can enjoy a large view distance but when more people join and it starts squeezing the bandwith the view distance will lower, instead of just having massive chunk lag!
