I hosted a vanilla server for a few weeks and decided that I should switch to bukkit, so I downloaded it, followed the tutorial, and ran it. I was able to connect fine from the computer hosting it, however when I tried it from another computer on my network, it wouldn't connect. I'm running Vista and have tried this with both build 818 and build 860. I encounter no problems whatsoever with the vanilla server, and as of yet I haven't installed any plugins into bukkit. Thanks in advance, and if you need any more information just ask. Edit: I've confirmed that it is my firewall (It works with it down), but after adding exceptions for port 25565, the craftbukkit.jar file, the vanilla minecraft server, java.exe, and javaw.exe, I'm stumped as to what I'm doing wrong. Bump, new info. EDIT by Moderator: merged posts, please use the edit button instead of double posting.
If you dig around, you can find how to log the firewall dropped connections to a file, so you can see what your firewall is doing to block it (Windows Firewall ->Advanced Settings->Windows Firewall Properties). My guess is that you've set the exceptions in the firewall for the public network, but not the home (private) network, or something simple like that.
at the first startup of the server it comes a popup of the firewall if u have there klicked block the u need to unblock the server file in the firewall i hope i have help you ^^ sry for my english but it isn't the best
Success! You were right it was something dreadfully simple. I had only been paying attention to what exceptions I had, and didn't notice that I had a preexisting block on all java programs. Thanks for the help. PS - I am now going to proceed to mod the crap out of my server. I might be back soon.
