    Greetings,

I am trying to understand exactly who received what order from who to remove Bukkit form the download servers?

The Bukkit download link leads to "A copy of the notification can be found at this link", but the link shows an email from Wesley Wolfe to someone, and not the order to remove the files.

What organization did Wesley Wolfe send this email to? http://dl.bukkit.org/dmca/notification.txt

I assume it is a government agency? Is the email from that organization to the server hosting Bukkit ordering the removal available?

    Thanks

So Wesley Wolfe sent that email to the host, and they removed the files? There was no order from any DMCA agency?

So has anyone with Bukkit contacted the host to contest that takedown?

Well, I have read claims that it is not a valid claim including from Mojang :)

I am wondering if those who disagree with it are contesting it.

  4. CosmicVoyager Only Mojang have the ability to contest it. If they have, they have not said. If they haven't, there's probably a reason for that.

FYI, there's no such thing as a "DMCA agency". The way it works is the person claiming to be the copyright owner sends a DMCA takedown request to the hosting company, which is exactly what happened. The distributor (bukkit) then has the option to issue a counter claim. After that the copyright owner can take it to court if they wish to continue with the claim.

    Hi :)

By counterclaim, you mean email the server host saying why they think the claim is invalid? The the host would then put the file back up until legally ordered to remove it?

So, who with Bukkit is the distributor? Is more than one person is a distributor?

    Thanks

I just realized one person said Mojang would have to contest the claim and another said Bukkit would have to???

Mojang "owns" bukkit, depending on what is meant by "own". I doubt Mojang was technically responsible for distribution of the jar files, I assume that was EvilSeph? Mojang probably owns the contract with the hosting provider though.
