A plugin that deletes old, no-longer used chunks from a map, after being unloaded for a prolonged duration. Reasons?! Saves space Keeps map fresh. Don't you hate it when somebody explores a cave, puts torches in it, then just abandons it? Allows for resources to be eventually replenished. Especially if Notch updates have new block types. I have a 4.6GB map and the community doesn't want to lose a lot of epic structures and formations. I was curious if it's possible to have a plugin that could occasionally check the map for unloaded chunks that haven't been loaded in months, then if it finds any, it would first check to see if it is a claimed region (optional). If it's not claimed or regioned, then it deletes it.
I actually just thought about a plugin like this too. I wouldn't know how to code it myself, nor would I even know if this is possible, but I would fully support this idea. Think Months is too long for my server, but maybe weeks.
Maybe make it adjustable, Its a bloody good idea because like he sais the maps getting pretty big(Over 4.6GB) and its mostly due to unused chunks, it would be nice to see them regenerate
Yes, definitely a config file could have all of the customizable options like the unloaded time before deletion, maybe an option to wait a different length of time for modified chunks and the option to eventually recycle regioned areas after X amount of time. Think of the regenerating chunks as weather changing the landscape around you over time. It would be like "landscape amnesia" and you would have a new chance to re-explore an area and re-obtain new materials. Just like how resources and landscape slowly change here in the real world.
