   Is it possible to force players to dig 3x3 tunnels when mining else the tunnels would collapse, and every 5 blocks the tunnel would have to propped up with supports like the ones in the the vanilla abandoned mines, else the tunnel would collapse.
   
   If this is possible would someone be able to give me some pseudo code or link me some resources which would help me make it.

   Well you could check on BlockBreakEvent and check if there are 9 empty blocks aling the Y axis along with it (Don't forget that this block can be any anywhere, whether the middle or a coner). Then, check if along the X and Z axis there is a support on the side.
