Bukkit 1.6.4 is compatible with 1.7?!

Guys... I need answers!
I'm playing on various servers. (Uberminecraft, Gameslabs)
I noticed that they have some sort of converter that allows a 1.6 bukkit version to be compatible with 1.7 games, and have server_icon.png images with them as well. :S
Guys, please tell me what is this sorcery!

It's simply a patch they coded and implemented to allow either 1.6 or 1.7 clients to join.

 

It is a protocol hack that allows 1.7 clients to join 1.6 servers. None of the new items actually work and setting a server up this way risks world corruptions and other glitches. Bukkit does not condone these protocol hacks.

 

This is a protocol hack which makes 1.7 clients login to a 1.6 bukkit server, it is insanely unstable and buggy.
