    hi
my school is starting a minecraft server on Wednesday at 9:00 am.
    im very happy about it except for one small thing;
i only have 2days, 10 hours, 46 minuites and 53 secconds to convince the teacher running it to use bukkit 1.5.2 instead of vanilla 1.5.2 server
im in year 9 and i am friends with the teacher who is running it but i dont know how to ask him to use bukkit

so can someone please give me a suggestion of how to ask him to change?

    thanks

btw, a few random facts about the server, dedicated, 4 g ram, inside the proxy(school proxy doesnt block it), aprox 40 people, currently vanilla software :( , 1.5.2,

UPDATE::: a few other people in my yeargroup convinced him

Tell him how a permissions plugin (like Group Manager) will allow him to customize the abilities of each player. This means if he wants certain students to do a special project, he won't have to give op permissions to them, with the risk of them destroying everything.

Also tell him about World Edit and World Guard. In particular, how World Guard will allow him to protect or restrict access to certain regions.

Try to focus on the customization Bukkit provides compared to Vanilla.

Just be all like "Bukkit has Rguz10, Vannila don't" he will instantly want Bukkit. (I know I know.. Not proper English)

How to convince him? Depends on what he wants out of it. It's in a school, so I'm sure that this will fit into his lesson plan somehow... That said, I'd just say bukkit is more extensible and can be customized in many ways that vanilla cannot.

Talk to him about the advantages that a Bukkit server would have (perms, plugins, customization...) over a vanilla server. This would work perfectly if there was a group project to do or something like that. ^^ Talking about the convenience that plugins do indeed provide you.

I'm assuming this guy teaches an IT related subject? You could say to him using Bukkit could encourage some students to take up computer programming.

Oh, that's a real good point. Students could write their own plugins in Java.

Bobcat00 Age wasn't really defined, but a decent guess would gauge 12-14 year olds... I'd think most would not be capable, as majority of that age group runs around shouting "YOLOSWAGSWAGYOLO420BLAZEITUPPPP". (Speaking from personal experience, by the way. Someone has shouted that when I was at school.)

a few of the other students who are helping to set up the server managed to convince him
most of the people are 13 -16, (i am 15)

Bobcat00 im doing IST as an elective and i got bored a while ago and downloaded eclipse and started making plugins for the server that i used to own

we have to build some random thing from a book that we have read
as soon i saw your post, i thought of one word:
    WORLDEDIT

    personally i agree,

it now has pex, worldedit, essentials, plotme, multiverse, a few other major plugins

    YES :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

they should add a feature to this forum to hate posts, if they did, i would hate the post that i have above

its not a school lesson, tomorrow(when the whitelist gets turned off) everyone who is participating is going to be in the library on their laptops, playing minecraft FOR THE WHOLE DAY!!
(it was the teachers idea, not a students idea!!)

    librarian
he teaches other subjects but im not sure what subjects.

robrobk2 please edit your post instead of posting 6 times, that is really just a recipe for disaster.

some very strange people voted for vanilla in my poll thing:

ONLY 11 HOURS UNTIL THE SERVER IS PUBLIC
Whih isnt really a big deal because im on the whitelist because im the only one who knows how to install plotme, multiverse, pex
