  1. Is runing a server in offline mode illegal? I figured it should be since it allows illegal users to play on your server, but Notch and Bukkit put it there... Even so, running servers in offline mode is morally wrong.

If running the server in offline mode was illegal, why would it be an included option with Mojang's official server software. All offline mode does is cancel authentification for players. Its useful for when Mojang's servers are down/having issues. Even if you don't use it for that, Notch himself is a supporter of pirating and understands some people don't want to buy it.

You don't make much sense since .
*It must be illegal even when the creator put it in there, it is morally wrong. /sarcasm off

    1. what if the login server is down?
    2. Servers that have no IE access, one being mine. (I have bought the game)
    3. Implamenting measures limiting your client base to combat people who will always circumvent it will only hurt your product.

People cracking/hacking software rather than buying it would have never bought it in the first place = no loss
If they really wanted to stop pirating its simple, just add a form of tax/fee to all ISP/clients of say 0.1% which contributes to a pool for software companies/developers for their software and they are given $$$ for every dl/use of their product.

Unfortunately in a fiat currency system rather than a resource/free system it's very un-likely.

You'll never get caught or prosecuted for anything, if that's what your asking.

As far as morality is concerned, I would say that yes, promoting piracy by running a strictly offline server is wrong.
