Hi there Hello there, my name is Liam but you may call me Frag. With the uprising of DayZ and ARMA2 recently I had an idea. There is a DayZ style game called MineZ, so why doesn't one of the other, less known, gamemodes get its own Minecraft recreation? This is where the idea of Minecraft Life came. Chernarus Life Chernarus Life is a gamemode in ARMA 2 where a player can take the role of the Cop (BLUEFOR) or the Civilian (OPFOR). As a civilian players can work an honest life as workers or traffic illegal drugs, rob banks, or even become fully blown terrorists. As a cop players can uphold the law, this can mean anything from taking routes around major cities to protect the honest, arresting thieves, fining people for misdemeanors, leading drugbusts, or just getting a helicopter and scouting out terrorist bases. There is also a currency system, a mobile phone system, vehicles, guns, etc. Minecraft Life Minecraft life would be as near the same as possible. Although I fear connecting with a vanilla client would be difficult. Things like gun types could just be bows with different firing speeds and powers, although that would not be the most attractive route. Vehicles such as cars could simply be minecarts that vary in speed and animals. But again, that would not be the optimal route. A brand new map would likely be needed aswell. The Plan This Is going to take a long time to make and will likely take many game versions to complete in the fullest. I am looking for people willing to put in the time and effort to make this. I am in no way an expert in java, heck, I hardly know how to do anything. But, this is an idea I would love to see. I would even learn to code java more if it meant more people were on board. System and Plugin Theories This mod/gamemode will require things like Spoutcraft, if you can help code Spoutcraft I would be oh so thankful! The mobile phone would be a private messaging system linked to a certain item, say an Eye of Ender, or a Compass. When a player sends a message to a player on the server (only one at a time) the player would lose a set amount of money, this value could be changed via a config file. In ARMA2 Life a message costs $10 (expensive provider huh?) and would display only if the receiving player has a mobile phone in their inventory. If the receiving player does not have a mobile phone the sender receives a message, along the lines of "SMS sending failed", and is not charged. The message (in ARMA2 Life) would display in the middle of the screen, this would be preferred With all the different types of ways a player could lose and gain money I feel like coding a proprietary monetary system would be optimal for ease of use later down the road. Contributors MrBluebear3 - Texting system and hopefully more! The End This is the end for now. Leave a comment down below if you are willing to help in any way shape or form. All help is welcomed. Many thanks, Liam Kelly
Seems like an interesting idea, even though I have never played ARMA2... In order to obtain what you really want, I'm going to recommend that you use Spout. This will require your users to use a client mod (Spoutcraft); it would be nigh impossible to create some of these features in a decent way without it (boats would have to substitute minecarts, and bows != guns). I think that you should elaborate much more about some of the other features that weren't given in as much detail. How would the mobile phone system work? What's wrong with the existing currency plugins? While doing that, try to keep it nice and formatted like you have above. Don't make it a gigantic wall of text. You have decent grammar, didn't break any rules, and formatted it nicely -- You're definitely off to a great start. I'd offer to help, but working with Spout is beyond my abilities at this point. So, as I always say: G'luck with a developer! (In this case, developers).
First off, thank you for all your feedback! Now I know that I did not provide much detail, I really wish I could of provided more but I was short on time. Secondly, I figured something such as Spoutcraft would be needed for a mod/gamemode of this magnitude. I will be looking for people that are good with Spout. Thank you for your reply, I look forward to any help you may be able to provide down the road. Sincerely, Liam Kelly
I will work on the texting idea as a seperate plugin and will be willing to contribute to the texting system! liam7653 Would you like the phone plugin to utilise spout? (e.g. There is actually a phone item, when you right-click with it is makes a screen with texts come up) EDIT by Moderator: merged posts, please use the edit button instead of double posting.
Good idea, I was thinking of doing that. Spoutcraft will definetely loose popularity soon with 1.4 . Any takers for other plugin aspects?
I was thinking of just having an item that when you hold it and type a command ( /txt <playername> ) it sends a whisper that uses the games currency to pay for. Regular whispers being disabled for anyone that is not a developer/admin. But honestly, a pop-up UI would look much nicer and be much more user friendly! And thank you in advance This is a smart idea Also, does anyone see a trading API in the near future? Having NPC shops that sell GPS', NV goggles (Toggle able NV potions? Special helmet effect?), etc. would be great!
I'm almost sure it'll be possible with the release of the official modding api in 1.4. If you don't feel like waiting you will have to use spout craft for all of the special items.
It's probably best I wait, with the official API on it's way it would be smarter to let it come than to get a good chuck of work done and then have to rewrite all of it.
You may be disappointed with the API... I don't think it will be all that great in the beginning. And it may take a long time for it to be released. :3
The GitHub repo looks kind of sad (although I didn't go poking around too much. It just looks a bit empty).
I agree. I was looking around for 'cool' methods, all i found was crap done to start it 4 months ago.
I'm really hoping it doesn't disappoint :\ I may tinker around in bukkit and see if I can get anything substantial coded. I really hope I can end up getting the Razer Blade to do OTF coding and testing in between school and home! Burmp. :/ EDIT by Moderator: merged posts, please use the edit button instead of double posting.
Texting system (vanilla version) is going well so far... Just really need more devs for other aspects!!! If no one else comes, I may do the system that will allow players to choose ranks. MORE DEVS NEEDED!!!
OK, the texting system (vanilla) is nearly done, I will create a BukkitDev page soon. OK, let's get there attention: WE NEED DEVS FOR OTHER ASPECTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(to the tune of Calvin Harris's 'Bounce') Dumdumdum dum dum dumdum dum. Bump. Dumdumdum dum dum dumdum dum. Bump.
That's awesome! It would be great if you could learn spout but I'm sure there's some non spout stuff you could do.
Can you possibly work on a faction system? Like when a player connects to a server they are factionless and after typing a command ((/civillian, /civ, /opfor) for joining civs and (/cop, /blufor) for joining the popo) they are sent to the spawn for that faction and possibly have a skin swap? I would like to make details such as pointing out cop and civilian as painless as possible. Also, after choosing a side they can no longer choose the other unless they disconnect which resets their faction to factionless. Just a bit of a fantastic bump.
