Update (Oct 27 @ 10:24 PM EST): We've just pushed out our first CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.4.2 development build, see this post for more information.

With the Minecraft 1.4 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.4. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the rapid release of preview builds for the impending 1.4 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.4.2. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.4 preview was made available to the public, each new preview build leads to delays in our update process as we, essentially, need to start over with each one.

In the past releasing a Recommended Build has caused apparent confusion within the community, as a result for this release, and moving forward, we will follow the "Dev -> Beta -> Recommended Build" release methodology. We are going to release a Beta build as soon as we can get a stable build devoid of any significant bugs.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.3.2 builds, we have promoted a new Recommended Build recently. This was done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.4 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.3.2 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

Well obviously, they've never taken a year/month to update things, and unless they're REALLY close (Which they'll start saying when the time comes), it won't be within hours. Problem solved. Would you rather them waste time calculating an ETA then work on your precious CB? And although you may not yell if they pass an ETA, a million and one other people will, and it'll just turn into a mess, which is what happened when we had the update spreadsheet. Just wait a little, give them some times. The update just came out. Meanwhile, you can still get on 1.3.2..

how come some servesr are out for 1.4.2???
  4. Offline

There aren't. CraftBukkit is in the process of being updated, if there are servers out they are vanilla or hacked to trick people into thinking they are 1.4.2

  5. What options I see in safety order:
    • Stay on 1.3.2 till bukkit releases a good stable build.
    • Allow 1.4.2 clients with a good old 1.3.2 server. (The only problem they get, that 1.4.2 clients crashes when they try to use 1.4.2 items)
    • Test your players like bunny rabbits with bukkit dev builds
From 8 players online on 1.3.2 server, it got up to 140+ players for choosing 2nd option, and we have no problems whatsoever. It's still a 1.3.2 server without 1.4.2 features.

    Your opinion?

they could tell an ETA... which in my opinion they shouldn't because like h31lx said, people would rant and rave if it was a second late...

what they could do however is announce "we're working on it" then sticky and lock the thread from replies leaving all others in purgatory wondering how the progress is....

or we can all be patient and acknowledge doing what they are doing takes time, and thank them for their continuous, wonderful work which by the way is at NO COST to you... we all have to remember that, CraftBukkit is free, be thankful, and patient. Great things like Craftbukkit come in time. :D

When your running with 140+ players online, basically what you are doing is manipulating your own community into believing that they are playing on the real deal. I have seen many of these 'larger reputable' servers with this 'hacked' bukkit build and to be honest it appalls me that they feel the need and the right to do that, not only to their community but to the bukkit community. It causing massive confusion as you will see on prior pages and the only reason i see for them doing this is once again for the money, they may argue differently, but what makes them so different.... exactly nothing.

You have no clue the risk your taking on corrupting your maps.

    Edit - I shouldn't have called names.

I can join the server with a 1.4 client though, and it has bukkit plugins running
  10. Offline

the key word there is it is HACKED to make the client believe the server is 1.4.2

its probably still a 1.3.2 server running with 1.3.2 plugins... that part will work fine, but they are hacked to make the 1.4.2 clients think its compatible, which can and will probably end up breaking the client eventually

Is there an ETA on the dev build for 1.4? Bukkit released the 1.3.2 in a matter of hours last time =P
  12. Offline

there is NO ETA for any release of any kind at this time. the release will come when it comes

The new chunks of the worlds are not being generated 100% correctly either. So whats to say that when they do update correctly it will all be good? I won't risk my players even if it means a reduced population for a while.

It would be nice to see something like a project plan. No ETA involved just what is required to complete the process and what has been done. Then we can see progress and not all be treated like mushrooms. (Left in the dark and shat on).
  15. We never said that our server is 1.4.2. We did a broadcast that server now allows 1.4.2 clients, but to keep in mind that server is still on 1.3.2 and none of 1.4.2 items work.

Why so much hate? We do backups everyday, and if you're wondering why I have chosen that custom build, that's because bukkit early dev builds have lag/tps problems. We'll switch back when we know everything will run smooth. As for now, everything is working perfectly fine with 20TPS, server have been online for 24 hours, no errors, nothing.

i'm really looking forward to the craftbukkit update, but with the 1.4.2 coming out i cant access any of my servers :( i was woundering is there a way to undo the update that i have done on my minecraft?
  17. Offline

Project plan at this stage I think would look something like this
    1. acknowledge an update needs to be done
    2. tell the community the update is in progress
    3. start working on update
    4. repeatedly tell everyone no ETA available
    5. repeat step 4
    6. clean out forum of off topic comments
    7. repeat step 4
    8. debug update
    9. release update
    10. re-unite with family members as long lost relative
at least, that's how I imagine it might look :p

If you're using Windows 7 - go to the bin directory in your minecraft folder and right click - select properties. Click the tab "Previous Versions" and wait for the list to populate. Now select a previous version of the folder and click OK at the bottom.

It's wise to make backups of your minecraft folder in case you find yourself in this situation. I only backup the bin directory and replace it when needed. ;)

    new devbuild out:
    1.3.2-R2.1 (Build #02401)
Is that for 1.4, or 1.3?

I know it says 1.3.2 - but why would they make e new dev build for the old version ?

I think it's kinda odd that nothing has been released yet when i've been using an unofficial release of 1.4.2 for bukkit "1.3.2 that accept 1.4.2 clients" for 2 days now. Oh well, cant wait for a recommended build :) <3

I really don't understand why this happens every time....people should know by now that bukit builds take time . All Most every build has taken days to come out after a minecraft release. I recall many times where I've waited days and weeks for an update, and I did it happily because I respect the Bukkit team and the work they do....(for free by the way) Giving the mods and staff of Bukkit grief about how long it will take will not speed things up. Posting "when will it be out?" "what's the eta?" bukkit suck's ftw" will not speed up the process. If you are a responsible server owner you should have notified your community that this will take time and not to update their clients if they wish to continue playing on your server. And there are all ways ways for your members to downgrade. Yes I understand that in our society of instant gratification we want things right now or sooner.....but guys, give these guys a break and be patient. The bukkit build will be out exactly .000000001 seconds after it's released and no sooner. How would you feel if somebody came to your job (that you were doing for free) and pestered you every 10 seconds about when the fries were gonna be done. Now imagine about a million people standing over your shoulder asking...........
