Update (Oct 27 @ 10:24 PM EST): We've just pushed out our first CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.4.2 development build, see this post for more information.

With the Minecraft 1.4 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.4. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the rapid release of preview builds for the impending 1.4 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.4.2. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.4 preview was made available to the public, each new preview build leads to delays in our update process as we, essentially, need to start over with each one.

In the past releasing a Recommended Build has caused apparent confusion within the community, as a result for this release, and moving forward, we will follow the "Dev -> Beta -> Recommended Build" release methodology. We are going to release a Beta build as soon as we can get a stable build devoid of any significant bugs.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.3.2 builds, we have promoted a new Recommended Build recently. This was done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.4 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.3.2 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

I'm sorry to be potentially starting a flame war, but here's my argument:

I get what your saying, it'll be awesome and more unified that Bukkit and Mojang worked together, but unfortunately that cannot happen. Minecraft is an indie game company. If you don't believe me, check this out:

Well I planned it a week in advance and I didn't even know that 1.4 was supposed to come out on Thursday

We've always gone for a "When it's done approach" :)

    We're working hard on it.

No offense, but learn what 'indie' means before using it to get on someone else's case. Here's a link to help out.

This is all to say, 'indie' doesn't mean that they won't work with other groups. It generally means they're a small team, and self-financed.

How much do I need to donate?

One million bazillion dollars... Just kidding! Donating doesn't have an effect on the speed at which we get the update passed... mostly because we're working at top speed 100% of the time. :)

    A: this isn't the government, it's minecraft.
B: I dont know what government you've ever experience, but they are actually less likely to get coordinated than this.
C: bukkit and minecraft are not the same people. Bukkit is an addon made by others, and is not officially minecraft.
D: they are already trying to work together as one.

Minecraft shouldn't wait for anything bukkit does... Minecraft is the product, as of now, bukkit is merely an addon to their product.

This would be like asking coca-cola to hold back a new bottle design because some woman who knits bottle warmers for her friends isn't ready for them yet.

Where did you ever get the idea that they start over every time?

Oh, ok. I've noticed a lot of servers are upgrading to 1.4.2 and are no longer Vanilla I was thinking that you might be releasing it a bit earlier for donators or something like that.

    Because he read EvilSeph's post.

The Bukkit team is doing an awesome job keeping up with the Minecraft updates. One or two weeks after a new release they usually get a compatible bukkit version out, that's awesome :)

As with every new Minecraft release people should consider carefully if they want to update their client to the latest version. For those that have already updated their client, but would still like to play on 1.3.2 servers without too much hassle, go read this tutorial on HappyDiggers on how to do just that:
How to user older or newer versions of Minecraft

Basically you use a loader for Minecraft that let's you select which version of Minecraft you want to play.

I took that to mean starting the full update process again... not a complete 100% rewrite from scratch, which is what I think grid21 was implying.

That is what they do. Somewhere around the first 5 or so pages someone explained why :/

No. CraftBukkit is free for the entire community, and we would not hold back for any amount of donations.

No servers have updated to 1.4.2 on CraftBukkit, as there is no CraftBukkit for 1.4.2 available.

    That's disapointing

Well if It doesnt get released then im just going to buy of of <removed>

There is nothing to "Buy" except a vanilla server. There is no CraftBukkit 1.4.2. Whatever you buy will not be CraftBukkit.

I'd rather wait a few weeks for a COMPATIBLE RECOMMENDED build than a ALPHA OR BETA build, since there will be a lot of bugs, and my server has a lot of plugins would could lead to a lot of cheating/hacking, BUT who cares GREAT WORK bukkit, doing awesome :D

Just run a whitelisted Vanilla server for the time being :)

If you guys gave an eta lol it would probably be less havoc

It would also hold bukkit to that date and if they are a second late all hell breaks loose on the forums.

Bukkit needs to hurry up and create a 1.4 quick, cause im sick of Smp. They claim they have to start over, but why not just build upon 1.3.2. For example, they could build upon 1.3.2 and all the snapshots, and once the pre-release comes out, they put the finishing touches on it, so they can release bukkit 1.4.2 right when Mojang releases MC 1.4.2. Just saying, use some common sense bukkit.
