With the Minecraft 1.3 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.3. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the size of the impending 1.3 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.3. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.3 preview was made available to the public, a lot of things were added, removed and changed in Minecraft from 1.2.5 and, as such, this update requires more work than usual to get things up and running. That being said, we'll continue to do our best to get an update out within a reasonable amount of time and will likely follow our usual policy of promoting the first Recommended Build the moment we get something that compiles and runs without any testing done whatsoever.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.2.5 builds since our last RB, we'll be promoting a new Recommended Build shortly. This is done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.3 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.2.5 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

MC 1.3.1 uses more resources yes. Consider reinstall it (after backing up files) as i have done it ran smoother afterwards. Also consider changing the block view distance to below 10 this to helps with the lag a bit.

What's with all the things about a registered listener PlayerChatEvent? Is it because of the dupe bug?

The specific function being called has been deprecated, so every plugin that's using the deprecated method - which is basically any plugin that accepts commands via chat - is throwing a notice. The notices are warnings to the plugin's developers that the API has changed and they need to update their plugin code to reflect the changes.

No doubt! Mods, I would volunteer my time to do this.

As the admin of UKMinecraft.com server I would like to thank the bukkit team for all of their hard work not just now but all of it. I personally have taken the time waiting for a RB to look properly into coding my own custom mods, this only deepens how grateful I am as I can see the work that goes into the website, wiki and most importantly the API for bukkit which is ridiculously easy to plug into. Ah well that and spawning zombies and villagers on a test dev server to watch them chase the villagers around, great fun :D

    Thanks!

I'm constantly coming back to this thread even though i know I'm just going to shake my head as I scroll though the selfish little nestlings cheeping about when they will get the worm.
I'm finally going to post to join those saying thank you.
    Thank you bukkit team!

Found an issue but I'm not yet sure it qualifies as a Bukkit bug or a bug in zombe's modpack or an incompatibility or what: when flying using zombe flight on my server running build 2307, I get pulled to the ground rapidly if 10+ blocks in the air (in 10-block bursts from the looks of it), and a "player moved too fast!" warning drops into the console log. This doesn't happen when using Creative mode's flight, even if air-sprinting. Flight is enabled in server.props, and the previous build I was running (2297) didn't exhibit this behavior.

I'll adopt a "watchful waiting" stance on this one to see how it all shakes out.

Does anyone from the team, or someone who's heard something have an idea of when the RB will be released? My server recently updated to 1.3 and we are looking forward to a non-dev build. No pressure, I mean, I know you guys have lives, and it's a lot of work, but do you have an idea of when it will be finished? My users are being stupid.
Oh, and please don't say "When it's released"

I heard that when people complain about when 1.3 comes out they actually extend the time it comes out . [creeper]

That's why I said noone say "When it's released"... I would prefer an answer with an approximation of days/hours/weeks/months... hopefully not months... :O

Not true. And I'm not complaining. Seriously... All I'm asking is if anyone knows when it will be finished...
    How is that complaining?

Yeah, I saw that. I've been swapping out jars every ten or so builds anyway so I figured I'd see if it was cleared out once I snatch a new build. Ah, the joys of betatesting!

oh, ok. I thought you were responding to my post. So anyone have any idea?

The problem is that there's no way to define how long it'll take terms of time spans. They won't say X days/weeks/months/millennia because they can't, not because they don't want to. It'll take as long as it takes, and no amount of wishful thinking or newbies getting all upset will accelerate the process. In fact, it's been my experience that the more you try to hurry a software project along, the slower things tend to go, because coders that are in a hurry make more mistakes and have to spend longer debugging and fixing things. Basically the way to success is to just let it happen as it's going to happen, and try to not be a hindrance or burden.

If you wanna help the team along, donate to the cause, wish them well, encourage them, pump love their way, have a few cases of highly caffeinated drinks sent to each dev, etc. etc. etc. (Remember, a "programmer" is a humanoid machine designed to convert caffeine into program code. :D )

Depends on the setup you're using. We're using Multicraft as the manager front-end here, so in our case the jar gets renamed to craftbukkit_beta so Multicraft will route everything properly. If you're not using any sort of server manager just renaming it to replace any existing Bukkit jar (remember to rename the original for backup purposes!) should work fine.

ok. I laughed at the bottom part :D Makes sense I guess. I'm admin of a relatively new server, and I've never gone through an update before. Will I have to reinstall/update or reconfigure all of the plugins? Does it happen automatically? What is the deal exactly?
I might try a dev build or two.

We are using McMyadmin. I can also connect to the server with FTP.

if you dont know what you are doing then i would suggest not using any dev builds and wait for the rb.

  20. Didn't know there was a Beta out, already... :-p

  21. It's annoying me that people tell people who are asking for a RB to shut up. Its nearly been a week now, not good bukkit, not good.

    Thanks

I looked through the thread, and I don't think I've seen anyone else ask this, but I apologize if I've missed something:

when plugin authors update their plugins (to fix the PlayerChatEvent stuff, etc.), do I have to go and manually re-download each plugin? Or do they have some sort of update-checking built in?

I've only been running a server for a week or two, so I haven't really had to deal with updates like this before... so I'm sorry if it's a really stupid question.

    Thanks!

I've been involved with administrating servers since the Hey0 days. I can tell you that, taken in whole, a week and some change is actually about par for the course. It is not bad at all. And if I were you, I'd learn a little real life skill called "patience". It will serve you here and in other key areas of your life.

This may actually be the single largest individual update the game has ever received at one time. If it takes two weeks to complete, that would actually be just fine.

I can understand that; however, these same plugins spitting out these errors worked before one of the updates. I know this goes along with what you said about "keeping up to date", but I feel as though the error could have been resolved just by reverting specific changes that they made in the builds. Now I have to wait for updates from a load of plugins, whereas before, it worked perfectly fine... :(

  28. some of the plugins have auto update en most of them not..izone uses auto update. there are more

oh guy's you are doing a great job..

We should campaign to get Mojang to release these updates to the bukkit team 2 weeks prior to release - i think thats where blame for delays should lie. The official MC server software is complete rubbish with no features whatsoever, Bukkit needs to be on their payroll.
