    Staff Update - July 1, 2013:
This thread is not from 2013. This thread is about the 2011, BETA version of Minecraft 1.6. There is no ETA for the 2013 Minecraft 1.6 update, as always. Please do not ask staff about when an update will happen, as they have no estimate for you. Again, this thread is not relevant to today's update.

    Update 2 - June 23, 2011 at 9:12PM EST:
    New Recommended Build #928.

This Recommended Build addresses a few API issues and provides Plugin Developers with more events to work with, allowing more awesome plugins to be made. Unfortunately, this new RB WILL break some plugins (mostly plugins that deal with controlling a player's movement - details can be found near the end of this announcement). As always, please be sure to backup your server before updating just in case!

See this post for more information.

    Update - May 30th, 2011 at 5:55PM EST:
Since the release of Minecraft 1.6, we've seen quite a few rapid-fire bugfix updates from Mojang addressing issues the community has noticed and reported back on. While we're glad Mojang are on top of things and getting updates out there quickly to improve the community's experience, this does result in extra work on our part since we have to re-do some of the work we've completed for the previous update. As a result, I made the decision to hold off on getting a build out for Minecraft 1.6 until we were able to evaluate the update and decide if that is what we feel we should do or not.

Over the weekend, that is what we have been busy doing. Unfortunately, I was out of town and unable to handle the situation as much as I would have liked, leading to a lack of communication on our part with you guys, our community. Nevertheless, my team was happily and diligently working on the update and in regular contact with me. Still, I would like to apologise for our lack of communication, I simply was not in a position to do so.

That being said, we have noticed a few issues with the update that we've been able to address, so we are leaning towards bringing out a build for Minecraft 1.6.5. Though this build may not address all the issues we've found, it is still usable and produces a playable server with a decent experience. However, I am not yet sure if this build will qualify for recommendation.

Please bear this in mind when using the build: it is not fully supported (though we welcome detailed, useful bug reports) and not recommended (we can't guarantee stability) to use. There are some Minecraft vanilla issues that Mojang need to address that are beyond the scope of our project to fix and we are still touching things up (like Nether/multiworld support).

If you want to use the build we'll be pushing soon, please backup your server and make sure you understand the risks before doing so. Once again, we cannot guarantee that it won't eat your cake or spawn tiny creeper babies that take over your world.

As I'm sure we're all aware, Mojang released Minecraft 1.6 today (Thursday, May 26, 2011) around 5AM EST and we've been hard at work getting a build out that is compatible with Minecraft 1.6 out. Since the release, Minecraft has seen quite a few small bugfix updates addressing some unnoticed bugs and we've pretty easily kept up with them. Unfortunately, there appear to be some issues with the update that is making the game unplayable for SMP players, so we've decided to wait for a bugfix update before we recommend any builds.

Will there be a CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6?
Given the reports of showstopping bugs present in 1.6, there's a high chance a new bugfix update for Minecraft will be out tomorrow or even several times this week. As a result, it is unlikely we will be releasing a Recommended Build for 1.6 until we have something stable to work with.

That being said, we recommend everyone stay on 1.5 for a while until the showstopping issues are fixed and we can get a new, stable, compatible build out.

You can already get CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6.4, but it is unsupported and not recommended.

I'll be scouring the internet for further reports on how Minecraft 1.6 is performing, but preliminary research and our own testing has revealed it as unplayable due to chunks sporadically loading or not loading.

I really need your help, guys.
When i was in 1.5, the /kill command of essential and the /sell command of iconomyChestShop worked.
I just copied the plugin files, updated my server, and pasted the file.
Now, in 1.6, the /kill command doesn't work for players, just for admins. And when i use /sell, this is the /sell of essential who work, not the /sell of IconomyChestShop...

    Have you an idea?

    Thanks !

I've seen this with obsidian and fire being there but not visible. (The fire's light was there, but the graphic wasn't. Wasn't brave enough to burn myself >.> ) Seems that this issue isn't limited by block type.
  7. Congratulations guys, superb work as always. Bit of a pity that Notch's coding, and impatient people, have put such a strain on the Bukkit team, as a player, I apologise on their behalf. :)

Works fine so far, but I'm always getting this error when somebody logs out:

"Herobrine". I think it was just a joke by Notch. Or maybe he added him in 1.6.6? Who knows... :p

    Thank you bunch!
  15. We get quite a few chunk errors. Even worse when you alter the view distance from its default.
    Very annoying.
Otherwise, im impressed with the Bukkit team. Very nice.

No errors here... been using the dev builds before 818 got released, found them to be quite stable too. But 818 certainly seems to respond quicker and perform better.

When using /tp there is a chuck err under the person teleported.
As well, some snow biomes are spreading.

    Thank you for your work.
  18. Offline

Ahh yes, when you warp somewhere it takes ages before the chunks around you load, but they DO load after some time. After relogging they'll load instantly.
Anyway, nice work again, Bukkit. Awesome!

Why is my server starting up sooooo slowly? I have no plugin on but it loads like a granny!

I am very confused by all of these posts. I think there is not enough information being posted. How is it possible that some people can run this and have no problems and others have a bunch of problems. There is obviously something different about the setups that are being used. It has to be platform or server setup or plugins or something that is different. I am a developer also and know this. If the code is the same, the results should be the same. There is another factor involved that makes one setup work and another not work.

I do not know Java and don't know the inner workings of the Bukkit server. My thought is that if everyone is testing out the same Bukkit build and same client side build, then the results should be the same. Clearly, from the posts, this is not the case. Something to do with the installation or platform running on or plugins has something to do with this. It is in my opinion not directly related to Bukkit or MC.

Since I don't know enough about java or how the Bukkit server works with MC I am wondering if someone on the Bukkit team could shed some light on what might cause one system to work fine and another maybe not even work at all or somewhere in between.

The only error I've had with this so far is that I think it re-wrote my Nether world file. My cobblestone passage is gone, and the gate is in a different spot, so i assume it re-wrote the Nether.
  22. Offline

    Aki Tensai

That is not an error. That is a change between how Bukkit was getting Nether working (usually using "netherworld"), and how Notch has now implemented the Nether on SMP (using "[WORLDNAME]_nether"). Notch choose a different world file location.

Thank you for the RB bukkit. Our server so far is having quite the success with #818.
Users are still slowly switching over to 1.6.6 and we should be back at full capacity soon. Will let know if we experience any major problems.
  24. Offline

The difference between servers that will cause them errors is most likely the plugins they have installed, especially if these plugins aren't up to standard with RB 818, and are trying to do things that broke in the 1.6 update. Other than that, there are a lot of bugs in Minecraft and CB that are only triggered by remote events, like the one where placing blocks on x or z axis 1000 would render them untargetable by the cursor, or, from my server, a bug that would crash the server any time a block covered with ground snow was removed by a plugin but still leave the snow hanging there.
Because the Minecraft SMP system is so fragmented, requiring the Bukkit team and then the plugin developers to respond to everything that Mojang puts out, there are constant errors like this because nobody is really on the same page until a stable Minecraft, Craftbukkit, and plugin build are all out and fully compatible with each other. Any time one of the three updates without the others, it causes errors, often randomly.

Thanks bukkit team! I am currently running 818 without a blip, but that might be to do with the fact that my server is whitlisted to me and another guy for testing, but it's still great.

My server users and I really appreciate what you've done for us in developing the mod, even if some of them are impatient while I fix my plugins!
  26. Offline

Regardless of whether or not it is an actual "error". The fact of the matter is notch/vanilla does it one way and bukkit is doing it another, notch is unlikely to change for the plugin, so therefore the plugin should be the one to modify its behaviour.

It's surely relatively trivial to simply change the location bukkit is expecting the default vanilla nether to be?

Fixing bukkit to accommodate the default nether location would certainly make things a lot easier (especially for people new to bukkit that attempt to convert their vanilla world and find their pre-existing nether suddenly vanished... they're not going to think "oh, that'll be because notch changed the nether in 1.6, let me just work around that", the first thing they will think is "bukkit broke my nether").
  27. Offline

Actually, it wasn't notch, but the Bukkit team. Notch's version has one world, many dimensions. The Bukkit version has many worlds, one dimension per world. As far as not being able to get to your nether, by whatever plugin, this is a problem I have addressed and have a fix waiting for the Bukkit team to approve.

To 'fix' the problem you are having, just copy the contents of your old nether world folder into the regular folder, under "DIM-1", I believe. As always, make backups first. Also, if you plan to keep using a plugin to do your teleporting, then no changes should be necessary, if/after my patch gets pulled.

For some reason my server wouldn't start correctly after updating, so I duplicated my old files and attempted to just set up a new server with Bukkit. With the new server, when I try to start it up, it says a server is already bound to the port even when I try to stop and start it again. This is what comes up when I try to stop the server:
    18:27:58 [SEVERE] java.lang.NullPointerException

    at net.minecraft.server.MinecraftServer.run(MinecraftServer.java:317)

I don't know what to do... please help? Oh, I have a Mac by the way.

With 1.5_02 we could host 200+ players just FINE. Now with that CRAPPY 1.6 thing we could barely host 100 players. I'm so fucking disappointed with Notch.
