I tried Hamachi again, I tested it on my other computer, and it worked. But my friend still can't connect. I prefer hamachi to port forwading.

You need to add more ram to your server in the .bat file

i have a bukkit server but i need to know how to forward my port so people can join my server. iv'e been looking for hours on how to do this and all i've found are websites that want me to download some crap. in order for me to actually forward my port i would have to have someone do it for me so i can "watch and learn". currently i am using hamachi to run my server BUT i hate it, no one can connect to my server, (im not going to bother with even trying to fix that, hamachi is just plain crap), so i need to learn how to forward my port from the very beginning. i am using windows 7, i would really appreciate it if you could list (if there are any) the programs i will need, and where and how to go from there. i WILL completely understand if you don't want to help i am asking a lot, and i realize that. if you manage to get minecraft at any point in time i will gladly add you as an admin on my server. i currently have 35, yes 35, plugins and im working on the permissions right now. my server is turning out to be great, thanks to all my friends' contributinons. if you need any more info let me know.

If you use Hamachi, everyone needs to log into your Hamachi username and password to connect to the server.

I continue to get the java errors, so I'm obviously doing something wrong. I installed the bukkit software and it didn't work. I installed the 64 bit java patch for 1.6 java. Doesn't work. Help!!!!
    1. What OS are you using (Brand and version)? Windows 7, 64 bit
    2. What architecture is the OS you are running (x64 or x86)? What?
    3. What version and architecture is your java install? Java 1.6_026
    4. Are you trying to portforward, or use Hamachi? Haven't gotten to this yet.
    5. What error are you getting (post your server.log and server.properties files)?
    6. What have you tried already?

maybe try using a different port. Sometimes 25565 will fail. Try using 5775

have you created a firewall rule for the port in your router?

Alright so here's my problem. I'm all new to this and rather confused on how to work this out. So I downloaded the craftbucket thingy and first off it wouldn't accept my java version. After I replace the .bat file with one of your optional files for a 64-bit system, it did work. I also created a network on hamachi, which I think was pretty simple just entering a name and password. But here's what I don't get. You say something about configuring a server.properties file. This is a file I lack for some reason, it's nowhere to be found. Any ideas?
I run Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with 4Gb RAM just incase you need this information.

I'm editing my post because a brand new problem has occured. When I enter the IP-adres of my standard gateway into my browser, it doesn't connect. It says page not found or page unable to load and stuff like that. But I'm positive this is my actual IP-adres to my router as it said so in the command prompt when I hit ipconfig/all. Help me please...

there is no way you can run a server without server.properties. Go into the folder where craftbukkit was installed (default: %APPDATA%\.craftbukkit\) scroll down and you will see it. open it with any text editing software and you will be able to edit it

Alright so I found it. Now there is still the connection issue with the IP adress.

Go into your router's settings page (192.168.0.1 or similar) and click on the Firewall page.

Do the people who are trying to play also have hamachi? They need it to be able to connect

@Theted maybe your firewall is blocking hamachi?

I did all of the port forwarding stuff correctly and made sure my router let minecraft pass unhindered. I tested the port with the server running and it was detected as the port was opened. SO I had 2 people try to connect and they got a message that the connection was refused. I then dug deep into the bowels of the security programs I have running, but found nothing, It was then that I found a port forwarding tutorial on YouTube and it pointed to the Windows Firewall and making exceptions.

So I checked that...and found it Activated and on!

I have Norton Internet Security 2011 and Windows Firewall SHOULD have been disabled when I installed NIS 2011. Apparently, new updates from Micro$oft RE-ACTIVATED it. So I made exceptions for minecraft and my server, and then disable COMPLETELY Windows Firewall.

Hopefully now, people will be able to connect.

If not....how difficult is Hamachi to use?

well, hamachi is quite easy to use, and many minecraft players would have heard of it and have it installed on their server. The only thing is, only people with hamachi can connect.

I've followed all the instructions, but no one can connect, they just get the "Connection timed out: connect" message. There's no error messages in the console either. I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium, and java 1.6_026, but I plan on updating as soon as I post this, which I doubt will help. I know for sure that I'm port-forwarding on 25565, because I was able to get people to connect on my short-lived classic server with no problem, and I haven't changed any router properties since then. My server.properties file is this:
    #Minecraft server properties
    #Thu Sep 01 22:01:49 EDT 2011
    level-name=world
    allow-nether=true
    view-distance=10
    spawn-monsters=true
    online-mode=true
    spawn-animals=true
    max-players=20
    server-ip=
    pvp=true
    level-seed=
    server-port=25565
    allow-flight=false
    white-list=false
I double checked my firewall/port-forwarding stuff too. I hope I get some help quickly. :/

@SlyCooperMan did you make sure that you added a firewall rule within the router's settings?

Hello, very nice tutorial works great. i got a server with the hamachi method on my computer its working and everything but, i got a new computer so i made a new server.
i thought it would work with hamachi but turns out i was the only one who was on the server, my brother connected to the network in hamachi but when he tried to connect to the minecraft server it didnt work ;[

    HELP PLEASE!!!!!

    ImminentFate

If you are only using it for playing with peoPle in your house, you should use LAN play. Basically you put you computers ip in the server.properties and your brother uses that to connect

I'm having a GIGANTIC problem. I've tried everything to get this server AND the one from minecraft.net to allow my players to connect and they still can't. They either get a "Failed to connect" error or are timed-out. I checked with another online player and BOTH servers work and allowed him to connect.

    Can you please help?

    Ok, does everyone have hamachi?

I'm sorry, the only things I can think of is that your router or your windows firewall or your antivirus is blocking it. Or all three. Try making a rule to allow java.exe and javaw.exe through

Did all three in advance, but they can't connect. I know it's not at my end as I had someone on the minecraft forums connect and he had no problem connecting.
