To me, it always seemed a bit unrealistic how fast night came in this game. It's like your chopping down some wood, and then all of the sudden it's basically totally dark and you're running for your life. While this does add an element of excitement to the game, I always thought it would be neat if there was a plugin to really slow down these transitions server wide. Imagine a customizable sunset and sunrise option, where sunset could last a full 5 minutes long. I think that would be really cool. I think extendday might have an option for this, but I could never get the damn thing to work.
