    News

    v2.4.2 Released - 9/24/2011
See the change log for details.
Everyone using PermissionsEx, Essentials, or anything else besides the regular permissions plugin or PermissionsBukkit should add or change this in their config under the Global section:
    LegacyPermissions: true
As of 2.4.0 the bPermissions plugin is supported directly.
As of 2.3.7 the PermissionsBukkit plugin is supported directly.
This support is not done through the new built in Permissions that bukkit provides, because there is no way to get a players group using the built in methods. However, by supporting this directly, you can now use the new permissions system while still keeping Residence, and not having to use old permissions at all anymore.

    Residence Signs (by KarnEdge)

NOTE: All Residence usage information has been moved to the wiki!

    About:
Residence is different from most protection plugins in that it aims for the users to be able to protect their own homes without having to bother the admin to do it. Residence has support for a variety of different protection types including preventing movement through areas, all of which can be configured by the land owner, and limited by the admin.
    Features:
    Features (open)

    • Allows players to define protected areas for themselves.
    • Individual permissions for each protected area. Land owner can give / deny permissions globally or to other specific players.
    • Different permissions per land include: move, build, use, pvp, fire, teleport, monsters spawn, damage prevention
    • Support for group permissions on protections.
    • Multi-World support.
    • Teleport system to allow users to teleport to residences.
    • Collision detection system to prevent residences from overlapping.
    • Limits to protected size can be set up by the admin.
    • Limits to number of protected areas per player can be set.
    • Two ways to select land including using the select command, or using a item to select 2 points.
    • Messages when you enter / leave a residence. (customizable)
    • Land "leasing" system which requires users to renew the lease on their protection every X number of days or loose the protection. (off by default, see config file)
    • Recursive Sub-zoning. Create zones within zones, and then zones within those zones...
    • TONS of configuration for admins. Customize every single flag that players can or cannot use in the config file, based on their permissions group.
    • (Optional) IConomy support, can set up cost per X number of blocks protected.
    • (Optional) Permissions support.
    • In-game help / commands descriptions

    • Added "piston" flag.

    • Fixed global "container" flag bug.
    • Fixed some NPE's related to explosions.
    • Added /resload command to load the save file after you make changes to it (UNSAFE, as it does not save residences first, and so you may loose new residences that were just created)
    v2.2
    • Added per residence Blacklist/Ignorelists that will allow you to specify certain block types to be ignored from residence protections, or unable to be placed in residences.
    • Added Server owned land, use /resadmin server <residence> to change the owner to "Server Owned"

    • Added 'waterflow' and 'lavaflow' flags which override the flow flag if set.
    • Fixed a bug causing money to still be charged when failing to add a area to a residence.

    v2.1
    • BOSEconomy support.
    • Essentials Economy support.
    • RealShop Economy support.

    • /res check [residence] [flag] <player> command, this command evaluates if <player> is affected by [flag] at [residence]. You can leave off <player> and it will use your name.
    • Added a LeaseAutoRenew config option, that will cause leases to automatically renew so long as the player has the money to do so. Note that, if economy is disabled this doesn't work, as there would be no point to leases. Needs Testing! :)
    • Global FlagPermission config section, that allows you to give permission to use a flag to all groups, useful for the build / move / use flag that you almost definitely want everyone to have access to. Flags under each individual group will overrule these.
    • You can now set a limits on how deep or how high protections can go into the group, using each groups MinHeight and MaxHeight settings.
    • /res select sky, and /res select bedrock commands, these auto adjust to the above mentioned MinHeight and MaxHeight settings, so it won't select into a area you can't protect.
    • Rent system implemented.
    • Many bug fixes, including proper creeper explosion prevention now. Also, fixed some bugs when renaming residences.

It couldn't be the spacing could it? Like for example the entire downloadable config file after awhile seems like its 1 space off on every line after the first few

Could just be me though I've always seen configs 4 line spacing on each new line (as far as 4 in, then 8, then 12)

well tried it with proper spacing but no change. still shows 0 or false for all the stuff in /res limits and still says group: default. when i have the group set to Trusted as well as default group at the top set to trusted.

    Hey
Very interested in this plugin as it would save me an enormous amount of time micromanaging. Trouble is I cannot get it to work. =/
I can set zones and subzoned with no problem, but the enter/exit messages never display and the monster spawn control simply does nothing at all. Using Bukkit 860 and a bunch of other mods but nothing that should interfere with this. I checked the produced yml file that has the zone details in it and they are fine, but still still the monsters spawn. Any ideas?

My main config file is all but identical to the one provided by the plugin. All I have done is change a few details to suit my needs, I have not touched the formatting in any way.

Hmm..... I did the same at first but yet it's not working for me >.< are you using permissions? If you are which version

I am using permissions, but an old one as permissions 3+ is a total waste of space. I think I am on 2.7.5 or something like that. I've not actually set any permissions yet while I test. Until I can get the zoning to actually work there is no point.

hell I can't even get it to let me make a damn residence lol. it keeps telling me limit was reached and when I do /res limits to see the global limits. its all 0 and false and group: default which makes no sense.

is there any reason there's only one group?
    Code:
    Groups:
Trusted: #you need to define one of these for each permissions group.
if it can't find the group in your config that relates to the permissions group then im guessing it tries to access the 'Default' group. do you have more than one permission group?

yea i have the following from least to greatest.

    griefer
    untrusted (default for permissions)
    trusted
    vip
    highroller
    mod
    admin
    owner

in theory then, only trusted users can create residences, and the others can't. is this what's happening?

you still haven't defined the other groups in your config, so thats broken (it might freak out if not all groups are defined.). and at least try permissions 3.x on a test server and see if that fixes things. it doesn't just magically not work. also do you have any other anti-greifing plugins that might be interfering with residence?

there is an issue with /res select vert with the default height limits being incorrect in the default config, also i had a similar issue where worldedit was using the same select tool, so the points weren't being selected as world edit was catching the clicks.

i'll go for a dive into the code and see if there's anything that could be breaking the config loading later tonight.

Not possible, WE's super pickaxe runs on a level as high as Op. There are several SP alternatives, though.

Hi i'm using this plugin but when players select the land they are not charged for it. I would liek to know if it is possible to make it so they can select the area with the shovel and then buy it. Without anyone else having to sell it and all that. Similar to the old iColand plugin. Also does can you make it so the protection goes from level 0-128 so protecting from void to sky

you can set a per block price (in the config), you can select from sky to bedrock using "/res select vert". admins/ops won't be charged money to create a residence, as the residence.admin node overrides the cost setting in the config.

Yeah, I've tried and tried with this, turning protection against monster spawns on and off with the command line or even directly editing the yml file: nothing works. Monsters still spawn wherever they like. =/

does the /res info of the residence say that the -monsters flag is on or off? if it doesn't show up, then the flags aren't being set correctly for some reason, if it does, then something's bugged. also, subzones have different permissions to the main area, (i initially had an issue where by default the monster flag was being set to true for all subzones)

    EDIT:

afraid not. if your lucky there will be a res.yml.bak which is a copy of the res.yml before startup. if that's been wiped as well, well.... their gone :(. it sucks. Had it happen to me as well, i always back up the res.yml with a map BU as well now.

They both got nullified... Couldn't find them anywhere. No in ram, no in swap, couldn't recover it. Damn. Well, gonna do a backup cron now...

Suggestion comes to my mind: MySQL support?

Yes, /res info says that "-monsters" is set (for both the zone and its sub zones actually I cannot make it query subzones so scratch that) but they can still spawn. Something is very definitely broken.

Thanks for that :). The res I did make successfully I did use the vert select modification, but that one went smoothly.

On the ones that didn't work (player made): We don't use WorldEdit. The only other plugin with a selection tool is MultiVerse, and I have it set to using a stick. No one else has permission to use MV selection tool anyway, so that would have only been a problem for my res. I have Residence tools set to feather and string.

Could you give me some of the alternatives? Is there a way that a SuperPickaxe flag could be created for the residence? Like, could I take away permissions from different plugins once they enter my residence? That'd be awesome.

@bekvon would it be possible to add another tool to use that when you select 2 points it goes to the max height allowed for your group (counted from the lowest of the 2 selected points). This would make selection a lot easier for clients so they would need almost no information to set the default flags.

Also any update whether flag copy/addowner commands might be implemented in future? Per my post <here>

MySql would be nice, it would stop residence (hopefully) saving a blank copy (what it has cached) over the top of the existing file.
according to the code you cant globally disable monsters which is kinda lame, but per-residence it looks like it should work fine, every time a monster tries to spawn, it just kills the event if it's within a residence and the flag is false.
i'll have a play around with it some more and see if i can get it to break, i'll let you know how i go.
what were the errors/issues the player was having exactly? did nothing happen? or was there a handy message popping up? (not sure where your post with the error is :))

The only thing that I can think of is that Essentials is loading after residence

EDIT: i got them to load by removing all plugins naming permissions to 1permissions.java, essentials to 2essentials.java and residence to 3residence.java; and then putting all the plugins back on Would it be possible to throw in a check to make sure that residence loads after essentials so I dont have to name them this way.

also is it possible at this time to edit the config file on the fly? as in can i edit the file reupload it and then reload residence or does that not work?
