    Introduction to Heroes
    Heroes is a dynamic, flexible and highly configurable class, skill and experience system. Heroes itself is the hub of your players RPG experience, boasting classes, multi-tiered and fully fleshed out. Along with classes, Heroes offers your players a new style of PvP through our well-developed skill system and our weapon + armor restrictions. No longer will your mages have the ability to use diamond swords, your rogues will no longer sneak around in their heavy diamond tunics and most importantly, you can now hurl fireballs and stun your targets. The best part of this? It's your choice how your Heroes is set up, don't want a certain skill, that's fine, you can just remove the skill and be done with it! We're working towards making everything about Heroes configurable.

    What can I do with it?
    With Heroes, you can do almost anything you'd want to do on an RPG server. The main feature is our customizable tiered class system, which offers as much to the server owner as possible. Your Heroes could be totally unique to your server, it could be the reason players play your server over a server with Heroes but a different set up. The same can be said about our skill system, it's unique to any of the other RPG plugins out there. Other plugins dub "Skills" as methods which you level up, this isn't the case with Heroes. Skills are things you can do which are unique to your class. Some of our favorite skills are Fireball, Jump and Port. This is what makes Heroes unique.

    What will you help me with?
    We'll help you with errors. That is where it ends. We will not be supporting your issues with your configuration files unless it's a bug within our code. Heroes is a big plugin and it's taken a few months to develop, we don't want to spend the next few months supporting silly issues rather than developing new and awesome features. Posting in this thread with an issue regarding a YML file will get you ignored. We'll be OK with helping you understand the configuration files, but we will not be fixing them for you.

    Where can I download it?
    You can download the latest recommended build here. You can download only the primary Heroes jar or the primary jar along with all the skills provided in a ZIP archive. Each skill inside the ZIP is enclosed in it's own jar, meaning you can pick and choose what skills you want your server to run. This is so you don't have un-necessary weight on your server.

      • Example: herosneak.sneak can be granted to a "Rogue" class at level 10 - so when they reach level 10 - they can now use the ability /sneak

      • Ability to '/bind <skillname>' to an item to right click and use that skill
      • Use '/bind' again to clear the bind and remove the right click ability
      • Currently only works for Permitted-Skills

      • Armor & Weapon restrictions based on level and class

      • /level - to show information about the level - comes with a nice interface to show you how much left to obtain the next level.
      • Set a mastery level - once achieved the user may switch to different classes and have their level/skills saved on the mastered class.
      • Configurable curves of exp to make lower levels easier and higher levels harder to get through
      • Optional Health gain per level
      • Configurable loss of exp (0.10 = 10% per death) by current level

    Would having every skill lag the server at all? Just wondering because mcMMO had lots of .jars like this and it lagged my server a LOT.

    No, it doesn't, but we're planning to have a lot more skills. So it could do in the future, basically, if you aren't using a skill, don't add it to your skills dir.

    So, when a user masters a class and switches to another, do they keep all the skills they've gained from the first class? Or, say if I have a parent, then 3 child classes, once they master the parent and move to one of the child classes, will they keep the skills they've earned in the parent?

    I'm trying to figure out how I will keep the permissions skills that I want all players to have, while also restricting them to the class-specified skills I've set-up with Heroes.

    A child doesn't inherit from its parent, in this case. They don't have the skills from the last class.

    Ok, so then I should keep my permissions groups.yml default class with all the skills I want the users to have, but then if I don't have a default Heroes class, would my users just be able to pick a class they want? And would it charge them the swapclass price I've set-up?

    EDIT: Nevermind, I suppose I could make permissions groups per class, give that group the ability to choose the specified class, then just move users to that group when they decide what class they want to choose, that way I can charge them for choosing a class.

    But -- Not sure why you guys are acting so rude towards users of your plugin. I would understand if this had been out for weeks, months, etc. and had a nice set-up guide/config guide for us to follow. But it has neither, so we're all having to kind of go with the flow and learn things through trial and error, the least you guys could do is be a little nicer, for the time being. The plugin has only been out for a day.

    Also, I understand you're probably frustrated because you get a lot of people asking questions that are answered already (hopefully I wasn't one of them), but at the same time, you should keep your feelings towards them--towards them. Not take it out on users who are more intelligent than them, and are just trying to get some real help.

    You guys have done an excellent job with the plugin, but you had to have expected with a plugin this big, there would be questions needing to be answered.

    There are others that aren't having many issues at all however. You need to just suck it up, and fix it. It's quite a simple plugin once you get down to it. It's not rocket science by any stretch.

    Because the answer was in the thing you pasted to me. This showed you didn't read the log (or in your case, saw the message it gave and ignored it) and just copied pasted. We included certain things to help you fix problems yourself, I find it rude that we spend 4/5 hours working on stuff for debugging and troubleshooting and you ignore it. I'm not frustrated with users at all. I'm OK with repeating myself. It's when people ignore things, that's what annoys me.

    As mentioned above, I shouldn't have even helped you with that issue, as it's a configuration one. OK, next time I shall ignore such things then, so not to be rude.

    On a slightly different note
  19. Just a note for everyone. Class names can only have the first letter capitalised. If you have another letter capitalised in the middle (i.e, you have a class called BattleMage, using the second capital to show that it's two words) that class will become available as a Path, regardless of if it has a parent.

    is this on the to-do list? eventually people are going to have a ton of skills and /bind is not really an option in combat...and quickslots (for me at least) are taken up by things like tools and torches and stuff that doesnt make sense as a 'casting item'.

    aside from that one minor thing this is absolutely epic. i just spent some time testing it out and encountered zero problems. i cant wait to dig in further and start making my classes and stuff =) this is going to be so awesome. thanks for this you guys, its so epic i can barely contain myself. i dont even know what to say i am just babbling now...[cake]

    edit - on a side note i am testing this with absolutely no other plugins permissions or bukkitcontrib and it seems to be working fine.

    edit 2 - would it be possible to let us name our party? we kinda use the naming ability for parties in mcmmo as a way of making quick and dirty guilds/factions...

    Parties are based on players, so it requires the persons name to be the party name. I like the idea of guilds though

    one more thing that would be cool with parties is making them 'stick' between reloads. if you decide to let us name them and use them like that it would be awesome if it remembered your party until you chose to leave it.

    In many major MMO's - you were only allowed to have certain amount of hotbar / casting space. Hence, you would need to sacrifice usability for utility, etc.

    We believe that the /bind function is a counterpart to the ~bind ability found in imp chat. Currently, we are happy with this implementation.

    These parties are temp for a specific purpose. We do not want them to persist between restarts or reloads. They are volatile.

    that makes sense for am mmo, but minecraft is not an mmo. to make the most of minecraft you usually have a bunch of other stuff in your hotbar (pick/shovel/sword/bow/axe/torches/some food maybe/building materials etc). with the current system you either have to choose between doing basic functions like those, or using your skills, or /binding your skills to things like porkchops, torches and shovels. in my opinion none of those options make sense/fun for long term playing. what about letting us use an item to cycle skills like easyrpg but having an option to only bind x number of skills at a time in the cfg somewhere? that way only one hotbar slot is used and there is still a limit on skills (if the person setting it up wants a limit like that).

    as for the parties i can totally see what you mean. i am just going to miss the way it worked before if i switch to this plugin =) maybe make a guild/faction option that is a persistent party that you can name/invite/kick people/share exp within a certain proximity etc?

    anyway i feel like i am losing coherency due to sleep deprivation. hopefully i dont sound like a complaining end-user-douchebag. i am just throwing out suggestions and opinions =) i really appreciate the work you guys are doing and i am very excited about this plugin.
