    Introduction to Heroes
    Heroes is a dynamic, flexible and highly configurable class, skill and experience system. Heroes itself is the hub of your players RPG experience, boasting classes, multi-tiered and fully fleshed out. Along with classes, Heroes offers your players a new style of PvP through our well-developed skill system and our weapon + armor restrictions. No longer will your mages have the ability to use diamond swords, your rogues will no longer sneak around in their heavy diamond tunics and most importantly, you can now hurl fireballs and stun your targets. The best part of this? It's your choice how your Heroes is set up, don't want a certain skill, that's fine, you can just remove the skill and be done with it! We're working towards making everything about Heroes configurable.

    What can I do with it?
    With Heroes, you can do almost anything you'd want to do on an RPG server. The main feature is our customizable tiered class system, which offers as much to the server owner as possible. Your Heroes could be totally unique to your server, it could be the reason players play your server over a server with Heroes but a different set up. The same can be said about our skill system, it's unique to any of the other RPG plugins out there. Other plugins dub "Skills" as methods which you level up, this isn't the case with Heroes. Skills are things you can do which are unique to your class. Some of our favorite skills are Fireball, Jump and Port. This is what makes Heroes unique.

    What will you help me with?
    We'll help you with errors. That is where it ends. We will not be supporting your issues with your configuration files unless it's a bug within our code. Heroes is a big plugin and it's taken a few months to develop, we don't want to spend the next few months supporting silly issues rather than developing new and awesome features. Posting in this thread with an issue regarding a YML file will get you ignored. We'll be OK with helping you understand the configuration files, but we will not be fixing them for you.

    Where can I download it?
    You can download the latest recommended build here. You can download only the primary Heroes jar or the primary jar along with all the skills provided in a ZIP archive. Each skill inside the ZIP is enclosed in it's own jar, meaning you can pick and choose what skills you want your server to run. This is so you don't have un-necessary weight on your server.

      • Permission nodes to set what classes are obtainable for the default user

      • Skills in the base platform of Heroes
      • All permitted skills start with /skill <skillname>
      • Allows for developers to add in their own code for new skills
      • Adjustable through skills.yml or overwritten in classes.yml
    • Permission Skills
      • Based on the permission-node system, ability to set the level required to learn certain permission-nodes to have a highly configurable system.
      • Does not use the /skill prefix - Permission skills copy the original command exactly.
      • Also works with non-command required Permission nodes (ie. Firelord for special armor abilities for certain classes)
      • Example: herosneak.sneak can be granted to a "Rogue" class at level 10 - so when they reach level 10 - they can now use the ability /sneak
    • Binding Skills
      • Ability to '/bind <skillname>' to an item to right click and use that skill
      • Use '/bind' again to clear the bind and remove the right click ability
      • Currently only works for Permitted-Skills
    • Inventory Restriction
      • Armor & Weapon restrictions based on level and class
      • Configurable in classes.yml [DIAMOND]
    • Levels
      • /level - to show information about the level - comes with a nice interface to show you how much left to obtain the next level.
      • Set a mastery level - once achieved the user may switch to different classes and have their level/skills saved on the mastered class.
      • Configurable curves of exp to make lower levels easier and higher levels harder to get through
      • Optional Health gain per level
      • Configurable loss of exp (0.10 = 10% per death) by current level

      • SKILL - exp for using a skill
      • CRAFTING - exp for crafting an item
      • MINING - exp for mining blocks
      • KILLING - exp for slaying mobs
      • LOGGING - exp for jacking lumber
      • PVP - exp for PVP

      • Set monster health/damage
      • Allow bed healing for players to regenerate health in bed!
      • Set player health (works with heart ratios)

      • /mana - shows the current amount of mana - caps at 100%.
      • Server wide regen of mana - default is 5% mana regen every 5-6 seconds.

    On your server it seems that once the warrior max level is reach, you can "choose" to go on 4 different class :

    How would i implement this on my server?
    I have made a classes.yml file to my liking but when i start the server and try to use / find out about a skill, it says that there is no such skill, do i have to list the skills in which is wish to use somewhere?
    or is it something to do with the skills in the zip folder?

    Ok im just wondering cause ive ben playing on the herocraft server alot and as a rogue i alaways liked to sneak. But as sneak is not as skill on the list, would i have to download herosneak and put it in the permission skills?

    If I have a default permissions group, with set-up permissions, will players who choose a Heroes class lose those default permissions?

    wow guys, you really got me...
    Spend like 15 mins trying to get IronFist working, until I noticed there is no skill with that Name in the Download package.
    In order to prevent future confusion you could remove the skill from the configs files :-D

    Chances are.... tarded :p - anyways we dont test with other plugins like that - your best bet is to rip it out and TEST yourself.
    This is a custom made mapper, you join our IRC and ask our web team if you can use / know how to set it up.

    For mastery levels, is there a way to configure it so that the mastery level is not the same as the level required to change to a child class? Are we able to customize the max level for each class? Differentiate the cost of switching to each particular class?

    Also, is it possible to recognize that someone has mastered a class, and have 1 skill carry over to all other classes after mastery?

    Can you customize it so that different classes have different EXP bonuses from various sources? i.e. Mining gets 1.0x Multiplier, PvP gets 0.2x Multiplier for a particular class.

    In it there will already be an EXP system, the bow mecanisme will be different etc.. etc..
    Are you going to use your own EXP system ? Because Notch one's look really fun.

    Yesterday, Notch posted an image of a massive mountain on his Twitter feed. But that’s not all. Look closely at said image. See the bar that looks a bit like an XP bar? It is an XP bar, but it also brings something extra – permadeath. In a forthcoming update to Minecraft, not only will you be able to gain levels. You’ll lose your levelling progress if you die.

    “I’m a big roguelike fan,” explains Notch. “It’s really fun. The idea is that you level up really, really fast. You can grind away and level up fast if you want to, or you can just play as normal and level up that way. The longer you play, the bigger the risk of dying becomes. It’s the part that really works. If it feels like it’s too harsh, we might make it half or something like that. But the fact that you lose everything – you lose all your inventory anyways.”
    The Minecraft developer is still figuring out how players will level. “I’m not entirely sure on how the levelling is going to work, because that part isn’t as fun. We’re trying to figure out something that is fun, and kinda lightweight. We’re thinking of getting an automated XP system. It’s not implemented in any way that makes any kind of sense at the moment.”
    Adding progression and permadeath could be a risky move for Minecraft’s vast playerbase. I asked Notch whether he’s concerned about ruining the purity of the game he’s created.
    “It’s the biggest risk,” he acknowledges. “We have to make sure that it’s fun, and as streamlined as possible. I kind of figured out that a really good test of what works or not is when I go back to 1.7.3 – the previous version. If it feels like it’s lacking that feature, if it feels like it should be in there.
    “But it’s what I like about roguelikes, like Nethack. Everything is dangerous.”

    A list of tips and things I've encountered so far:

    If a player chooses a path or spec, then you delete that path or spec from your classes.yml all hell can break loose. Some if not all skills will no longer obey their cooldowns (for everyone) and the user with the outdated yml will get only internal errors when attempting to switch classes. If you have people complaining of internal errors make sure you delete their player yml.

    Changing the expmodifier of a class from 1 to 2 will double how quickly you will level that class.

    The early CFG release was missing " useDamageSystem: true" under Properties in config.yml. If your /hp and hearts meter doesn't match up a lot this may be a cause if you downloaded early.

    just a quick question before i dive in to this: is there a way to cycle through your skills somehow without having to /bind every time you want to use a different one? like in easyrpg you have a book which you hold and right click to cycle through your skills with, and an item to 'cast' them with (like a wand).

    this looks very promising...thanks for all your work. i cant wait to see how it develops.

    Maybe a way to change the exp system would be to manipulate the bar to show herocrafts xp gains and losses, i would not know how this would work but form what uve seen its possible
     
  30. You can't. In the future we may provide a way to remap skill names.

    You don't. Class B is accessible once you have mastered (reached max level of) Class A, assuming B is a specialization of A.

    I'm going to go out on a limb and assume the max level setting (the one in the config.yaml file) is the only control we have here?

    As in you reach level 50, then you can choose a specialization, and you are reset to level 1?
