    Introduction to Heroes
    Heroes is a dynamic, flexible and highly configurable class, skill and experience system. Heroes itself is the hub of your players RPG experience, boasting classes, multi-tiered and fully fleshed out. Along with classes, Heroes offers your players a new style of PvP through our well-developed skill system and our weapon + armor restrictions. No longer will your mages have the ability to use diamond swords, your rogues will no longer sneak around in their heavy diamond tunics and most importantly, you can now hurl fireballs and stun your targets. The best part of this? It's your choice how your Heroes is set up, don't want a certain skill, that's fine, you can just remove the skill and be done with it! We're working towards making everything about Heroes configurable.

    What can I do with it?
    With Heroes, you can do almost anything you'd want to do on an RPG server. The main feature is our customizable tiered class system, which offers as much to the server owner as possible. Your Heroes could be totally unique to your server, it could be the reason players play your server over a server with Heroes but a different set up. The same can be said about our skill system, it's unique to any of the other RPG plugins out there. Other plugins dub "Skills" as methods which you level up, this isn't the case with Heroes. Skills are things you can do which are unique to your class. Some of our favorite skills are Fireball, Jump and Port. This is what makes Heroes unique.

    What will you help me with?
    We'll help you with errors. That is where it ends. We will not be supporting your issues with your configuration files unless it's a bug within our code. Heroes is a big plugin and it's taken a few months to develop, we don't want to spend the next few months supporting silly issues rather than developing new and awesome features. Posting in this thread with an issue regarding a YML file will get you ignored. We'll be OK with helping you understand the configuration files, but we will not be fixing them for you.

    Where can I download it?
    You can download the latest recommended build here. You can download only the primary Heroes jar or the primary jar along with all the skills provided in a ZIP archive. Each skill inside the ZIP is enclosed in it's own jar, meaning you can pick and choose what skills you want your server to run. This is so you don't have un-necessary weight on your server.

      • All permitted skills start with /skill <skillname>
      • Allows for developers to add in their own code for new skills

      • Based on the permission-node system, ability to set the level required to learn certain permission-nodes to have a highly configurable system.
      • Does not use the /skill prefix - Permission skills copy the original command exactly.
      • Also works with non-command required Permission nodes (ie. Firelord for special armor abilities for certain classes)
      • Example: herosneak.sneak can be granted to a "Rogue" class at level 10 - so when they reach level 10 - they can now use the ability /sneak
    • Binding Skills
      • Ability to '/bind <skillname>' to an item to right click and use that skill
      • Use '/bind' again to clear the bind and remove the right click ability
      • Currently only works for Permitted-Skills
    • Inventory Restriction
      • Armor & Weapon restrictions based on level and class
      • Configurable in classes.yml [DIAMOND]
    • Levels
      • /level - to show information about the level - comes with a nice interface to show you how much left to obtain the next level.
      • Set a mastery level - once achieved the user may switch to different classes and have their level/skills saved on the mastered class.
      • Configurable curves of exp to make lower levels easier and higher levels harder to get through
      • Optional Health gain per level
      • Configurable loss of exp (0.10 = 10% per death) by current level

      • SKILL - exp for using a skill
      • CRAFTING - exp for crafting an item
      • MINING - exp for mining blocks

    There is a way to limit item use based on level, as levelcraft has that feature. However no way to limit what a user can place in their hotbar that I know of.

    example

    Mining Skill lvl limits

    Item Skill level required

    wood pickaxe 0
    stone pickaxe 5
    iron pickaxe 10
    diamond pickaxe 30

    That being said I don't know how they coded it.

    Unless of course you just mean that there is no way to do it in Heroes heh

    ofcourse there is a way to do it they could just check in
    if item not listed in allowed weapons kick out of slot
    if allowed check if item level=< players level
    but atm they dont support this

    You have to give the skill to the class you want affected in the classes.yml file.
    Anyways, I upgraded the WaterEffects and created two more!

    Hey, I have a problem by editing the class.yml. When i write Skills like Icebolt Notepad++ paint it red, whatever that means =/ But i want to make new classes. I know thats totaly fail but im not schooled in that.
    And i know my english is AWESOME!

    What you need to do, is when you hit enter, hit backspace until you are at the first space of the line, then hit space to the spot that the text wouild be. yes its annoying, but its the only way to get it to work :/

    whenever i try to make a hero it ends up screwing up the plugin and then the server doesnt even show it running :(? i literally get all the spells saying in the Cmd prompt saying... WARNING heroes skill [insert here] defined for warrior not found and all the other classes

    is there a way to change when it shows us how much mana we gained id rather set it to like 10-15% till it tells us how much we gained so my players get less spam?

    and when you switch classes that they keep their current level?

    So I'm not following - it is possible for a class to have two parent classes? I ask because the default classes.yml has one parent with two child classes ( warrior -> Paladin and warrior -> Shadowknight) if I understand it correctly. I am wondering if you can have multiple parents and only one child class - i.e. mage, fighter, and arcane warrior; mage -> arcane warrior, and fighter -> arcane warrior. I apologize if this has already been answered fully - I checked both the default classes.yml and the rest of the forum (to a reasonable degree) for an answer.

    I ended up figuring my way around the issues I was having before, but now I have another issue. I'm sure it's a simple fix, I'm just not sure what to do about it. Happened right after I changed the exp modifier value for the classes. I'm extremely new to all of this but I know it's got to be something really simple, so I feel silly for asking.     Edit: Hm... Probably going to have to delete the player.yml's x-x

    Edit AGAIN: Figured it out lol.. I had changed the name for the default class, so all of the player.yml files had a class name that didn't exist. :p

    Where do i get the skills from ?

    You could make heroes work with NPC's.. You could set it so, the NPC will tell you to do a quest and when you done it, you can join each class.

    I can tell you right now that the devs are going to ask you for more information, so it will speed things up if you give plugins, errors thrown by a yml parser etc.

    If you're asking about using the Spout server plugin, then yes you can use that. If you're asking about the Spout client launcher/mod, then the answer is still yes you can use it but I do not believe it will enhance the experience any at this time.

    1) did you parse ALL of the ymls? Config, damages, classes, experience, skills?

    UGH
    I literally just parsed it and it said no errors. I have Heroes v1.1.4, Permissions 3.1.6, CraftBukkit 1000BukkitContrib 0.1.7. I have everything updated. I parsed 100% of the file, and that error never showed up. Guess that's the wonder of MC and Bukkit, the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing. A little annoying, I must say. Still not working.


    Now it's not even letting Heroes run on my server.

    Here's effects for Lava and Fire. They try to only block players from being lit by their respective sources. ie, Players with FireEffects can still be lit on fire by lava and visa versa. Both can still be lit by other sources.
