    Not sure if any one can help me here but i am starting a minecraft server on a CentOS 6 64bit vps when i start the server with putty it closes when i close putty how do i keep the server running without being logged into putty?

    I think most people use 'screen' and launch the server in a screen session. I believe it can be setup to auto-detach the screen session if you disconnect or close PuTTY, but basically when you re-login you would do 'screen -r' to resume the screen session the MC server is on in order to see the game console again. I had some scripts set up to do this previously but I'm not on linux atm. This might help:
