I am unable to do anything and many actions is visibly denied with a "do not have permission" error. There are some actions such as chatting or breaking blocks that do not throw errors, but I still cannot do them. This occurs after I /ban someone and then /pardon them. It can only be fixed by opping the player, relogging 1 to 6 times (most I've experienced), or restarting the server. I have tried "/pex reload" to no avail. Most of my commands show up visibly denied through console, however chatting does not show up in chat or throw any errors, even with "/pex toggle debug." It's as if the chat was dropped completely.

Any ideas?

Side note: VanishNoPacket has a setting enabled that is looking for TagAPI

 

malon I got this issue too, but those fixed it for me. If not, restarting the server also tends to fix it.

Also, I feel I was not clear in what causes the issue. Example PlayerX. Myself as an admin, I proceed to /ban PlayerX. I then /pardon PlayerX. Upon PlayerX rejoining the server, he has no permissions for anything. He must relog repeatedly, become an OP, or reboot server for the issue to be resolved.

In all of the above examples, I deopped myself and set my group to default and either banned/unbanned myself from console, or had a fellow admin do the banning.

Well I'm stumped. My server restarts every hour, so if that happens they have to wait usually around 50 minutes for a fix.

What's weird is that the permission system IS working partially correctly, and by that I mean the commands are being routed to the correct plugins. I know this because when I get "player is denied access" errors, the message will come from the correct corresponding plugin.

So if I try and and do "/plugins", I get bukkit's version of "permission denied", but if I try and do "/sethome", I get essential's version of "permission denied".

And to add to that, it can all be solved by OPing the player who's having difficulties, making me think it truly is permission issues. I'm beginning to think it might be an issue in the way that bukkit hands over permissions to other permission managers.

When I am default group:
/pex user malon check essentials.sethome
Player "MALON" have "essentials.sethome" = true

When I am superadmin group (uses '*' node):
/pex user malon check essentials.sethome
Player "MALON" have "*" = true

Yet I still can't do anything. Only if I specifically OP myself can I start doing things (or relog a few times)

I see you've got another thread and you're going to probably try out GroupManager. If you get a perms plugin working then that's a good thing. Looking over everything you've provided, I can't find what could be causing the issue. The only thing I'm noticing is that build: true does absolutely nothing in PEX. I can't imagine removing that would change anything. Oh, if you do install GroupManager, though you could keep ModifyWorld, you could also get rid of that and install EssentialsAntibuild, which is what build: true applies to in GroupManager.

It took me HOURS to set up groupmanager correctly, but it's finally working. And guess what? The issue is GONE! So the problem lies with PEX.

Thanks for your help! Still disappointed about PEX though, it was my fav.

It is weird. I'm using the same version of PEX and the same dev build of bukkit and mine works like it's supposed to. It is disappointing that we couldn't fix it.

I appreciate your time! Here's what's weird: I've run 2 different servers, with different setups, but all manually configured by me. This issue has persisted through both servers, run by two different companies across 3 versions of minecraft (1.5 to 1.7). In fact, one hosting company wasn't even a minecraft host (linode.com). I currently use allgamer.net minecraft hosting (2GB ram). My current server I'm running Essentials. On the other server I was using CraftBook and AdminCmd.

I'm a software developer so (I think) I understand all the principles of how to set up a bukkit server quite well (it's really not that complicated). Hell, I've even written my own custom plugins that use permissions. I've never had any other persistent issue, but this one follows me around from server to server. I've been dealing with this bug for about two years on two different servers, neither one having anything in common with the other. PEX was the only thing in common between the two and I didn't really understand other permission plugins so I never switched that part until now.

There is one small thing I neglected to mention: The issue does not just occur after unbanning a player. It will very rarely (1 in every 50 or so logins, maybe 100) occur seemingly randomly on player login. So what I mean is a player will decide to visit the server (new player or returning) and they randomly can't do anything at all. So they will have to relog until it works or whatever. Same resolution. This random issue is the primary one that really agitated me and made me post on the forum. I was really excited when I found out I can reproduce the issue via banning/unbanning someone. Prior to that, I had no way of really testing what the issue was since it was so infrequent.

It must have something to do with how I set the server up. There must be some kind of bad practice I'm doing or something I'm over looking and is inherent to the way I specifically do it since the issue keeps cropping up on me.

I will keep the pex config/perm files on my server and test it from time to time. If a PEX plugin developer would like to work with me and try and figure out the problem, just ask!
