Problem/Bug Pex and EssentialsChat

I am having a strange problem trying to get a Minecraft server set up for a community using PermissionsEX and EssentialsChat. The problem is that when we run the plugins on the server, just Essentials, EssentialsChat, and PEX, we get the prefixes showing up as [default]PlayerName I've tried every combination in the config for essentials and the permissions file for PEX, but I can't seem to fix it at all. Yet on my own server, both running the latest Spigot build, the prefixes work just fine. I'm at a complete loss as to what to do now. We are running Spigot for 1.10. This is the first time I've used PEX and I know my permissions file for it isn't finished yet but we just need to get the main problem of the prefixes working first.

Edit: Also the PlayerList in game is also updating correctly on both servers, but still not showing the prefix on one.

Please if anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. Any fast replies would be great as well to speed up our progress toward the release of this server for our members and people wanting to join it.
