Pause a scheduled event?

Hi, I'm new to plugins and only have a basic understanding of java so please forgive me if this has an extremely obvious solution, but I'm trying to make a freeze event for my private uhc plugin but I need to stop the scheduler that increments my timer. Is this possible?
