Multiplayer not working?

    I am the Host of the server. I am operating on a Mac 10.7.5, 64-bit, java 1.6.0_41. My friend is operating on Windows 8, but that's all I know about their computer. We both have the latest version of Hamachi. My friend has successfully connected to my Hamachi network and I can see their name under mine with a green "online" symbol.

    They go to minecraft, select add server, type in their Hamachi ip number with my port number. It gives a "failed to connect, connection refused" message.

    We have also had my friend type in my Hamachi ip number and port number and still receive an error message. What are we doing wrong?

    Check your firewall turn it off or put it in "gaming mode" if you have that
