Mojang have just released an update to Minecraft, bringing us to 1.2.4.

This update is primarily a bug fix release but does include some nice improvements as well:
    • Made placing half blocks on existing half blocks (to make a full block) easier
    • Limit framerate on menu screens, no longer uses 100% cpu and make my computer melt
    • Fixed fatal crash for converted worlds to anvil, when there’s blocks at max height
    • Fixed an old bug with signs clearing text while you’re editing them in SMP
    • Fixed crash when logging in while there are blocks at maxheight at spawn
    • Fixed TNT ghosts in multiplayer
    • Fixed storage minecarts dropping enchanted items
    • Fixed crashes on invalid server addresses when joining a server
    • Fixed entities being uninteractable if they existed at login (Multiplayer)
    • Fixed dupe exploit with paintings
    • Fixed furnaces and dispensers dropping enchanted items
    • Fixed the “flickering” of chat as it vanishes off the screen
    • Fixed text rendering over items in the container screens
    • Fixed exploit with jungle saplings (turns other saplings into jungle ones)
    • Fixed launcher opening minecraft dir if the path contains a space
    • Fixed an off-by-one lighting bug
    • Fixed block transmuting (turning one block into another via pistons)
    • Fixed placing mushrooms in daylight, where they can’t survive
    • Fixed redstone lamps dropping powered block items when destroyed while on
    • “save-all” (server) now works even when you have toggled “save-off”
    • Fixed turning half-blocks into full-blocks while you’re standing on them
    • Fixed seed displaying in F3 debug when the seed is unknown (multiplayer)
    • Fixed villager texture changing clientside per profession
    • Fixed falling off ledge corners while holding shift
    • Fixed players falling when reconnecting to servers where they were previously flying
    • Chat history and much better chat editing
    • A few new decoration blocks
    • “Back” and “Quit” buttons to OutOfMemoryScreen
    • Made cats more realistic (read: probably annoying). I hope it’s enough to cancel out any joy you may receive from the previous feature!
    • Added a “minimal” debug menu for testing with. Shift+F3 to hide the graphs.
This is just a short announcement to let you know that we are aware of this and are working on it as I type this. Please note: Minecraft 1.2.4 has bumped the protocol version, so it is incompatible with 1.2.3.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Ive just about fing had it with this. We HAVE to be on top of all these staggered updates cause if we dont, we loose all our players cause they can no longer connect. Is BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY or SAMEDAY bucket upgrade that much to ask. DIDN"T MOJANG BUY BUKKIT????

Idea for the people at Bukkit

Make all whiners and complainers write their own code. Ban them from using your products. Then I believe we might have less trolls, and more respect for your wonderful team!

Firstly, do the bukkit team not be a part of mojang now? and would that not mean they are being paid for their work, and secondly, people like me who run a server for a clan or for fun, who rely on a prompt release of RBs as the server provider does not allow beta builds or none recommended, need the updates to be fast and as there are many servers that can use none RBs and we loose members and prospective members because of it. As for those people who say about moaning/whining, were not whining, you have to understand that 1.2.3 still does not have a RB, and 1.2.4 is out! There is no logic to this, i as many others have been able to literally in the last week get around the server providers restrictions and get 1.2.3 R.03 build on to the server (this took 12 emails and 3 weeks to get a response and get the host to allow the non RB, which wont be able to do again as they said they would not) so although so posts come across whiny they all have a legitimate point.

As for the bukkit team, i for one admire the work they do and everything they have done thus far on the development of the bukkit server. i don't hold them accountable for the "update" to the game so soon after the release of 1.2.3, didn't mojang say now the game is no longer beta updates would be less frequent and more substantial. but that is just my honest opinion, and i don't wish to belittle the work the bukkit team, i wish to belittle mojang and their current update philosophy. i would rather this update be 1.2.3 and we waited an extra month for a complete update. not a half arsed update.

Sorry for the wall of text but a least it will be partly read here.

Wanna see some serious update woes? I run an IL2 server with UP3 RC4 have been waiting for MONTHS for the promised upgrade. Doesn't bother me in the least, but i do check the webpage everyday. See date of first post and notice the release info. Then see a thread like this one that has been going on for months now.

Listen asshole, Bukkit works extremly hard tring to keep uup with minecraft's constant releases of new updates if you dont appreciate that then just screw off. Bukkit released 2 or 3 fairly stable builds they werver beta but they were still very stable and my server ran fine on them. so dont act like bukkit is "Dead" they are very active. very active tring to put out the next build not deal with your bullshit and everyone else who is doing the same thing as you. if you accaually read the news feed you would understand how bukkit works a little better. spamming bukkit WILL NOT improve the speed of the release. Craftbukkit takes a TON of coding and there is only about five or so people working to code the central bukkit plugin. If your really desperate with getting bukkit then simply get a beta build if you dont then sit don and shut the fuck up while bukkit works on it so they dont have to deal with your bullshit. bukkit will be ready when its ready so dont rush it when there is stable beta builds out that you can use.

You gotta be a desperate server to do this for new players or just really bored with your server to want to run a barebones server setup to play on.

.. personally I just wait it out, until all my favorite code plugins and mods are up. I ran the server for myself, being a good host for visitors and members come second, they are welcome to stick around or update.

On their own dime, I should bloody hope not, they better be getting paid for this. Or they didn't negotiate a contract right.

    Anyway isn't this a lively thread :D
