It may be the case that you don’t recognise me, nor do you know where my piece fits into the wonderful puzzle that is known as Bukkit. But in light of recent events, I would like to share with you my story… Where does that story begin? Minecraft, and most importantly Bukkit has become a very important part of this chapter in my life. Not because of the game itself. But rather the journey and the wonderful, dedicated people I have met along the way. These relationships that have formed are an integral part to why I kept coming back. It is here I begin my story. Long before that orange tag appeared next to my name I had been interested in BukkitDev (DBO) and more importantly, the motivated team behind it. Those were the days where approvals under 1-2 days was normal (what, this can’t be right?!). At this time my little infant creation, EchoPet, was starting to receive some attention on DBO. Not long after, hawkfalcon contacted me about his interest in helping with the project, later suggesting placing an application for DBO staff. From there, IRC (thanks hawky <3) came into the mix, becoming the medium I now use on a daily basis to communicate with some of the most awesome people I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with. Development, school and staff duties started to settle into place around each other - it seemed as if the stars were aligning themselves. The road only got steeper from here - the bus I was riding in was only to get faster and faster the further it went. And with every revolution of the wheels that carried the community with me, the journey only became more and more enjoyable. Applying for DBO staff was a way of giving back to the fantastic community that has given me so much. The approval queue was often long, relentless and required hours and hours of dedication and motivation to be poured into it. It was an opportunity I am truly thankful for as it changed my life significantly. A lot of people were unaware (and still are) of the amount of work that the staff and admins have put into making BukkitDev flow as smoothly as possible - most of it is hidden from the public eye. Yes, we read through every single line of your code for every file you uploaded. Yes, we read through every single line of your project description before it was approved. That feeling of knowing you were assisting the community is something that cannot be replaced. It was this that provided the motivation to keep working that queue. I am not the only one here with this story - many staff members have come and gone. BukkitDev was only as great as it was because of the people involved. The dedication of those around me was overwhelming. Everyone has put in such an enormous amount of work, and it wouldn’t have been the same without them. A huge thanks goes to the entire staff team. It also would never have been the same without those amazing administrators that dedicated their time into the project. TnT and mbaxter were always there for me, for which I am truly thankful for. EvilSeph always appeared at the right times to make decisions to better the project that we all love. I wholly stand by his actions. This project would never be where it is today without him. I am in dismay at how a community can change so quickly, despite the amount of work he has poured into providing a wonderful service for all to enjoy. It is not plausible to spend the entirety of this post talking about the people I become so close to. I would however like to thank a few of those people for making this chapter of my story the best so far: As both a mentor, friend and all round good guy, drtshock never failed to be there when I needed help most. I would never have come so far without him. I cannot possibly express in words how fun it has been to know, talk to and work with CaptainBern. Even though timezones were often a problem, I always have and always will enjoy talking with him. Thanks to him for being such a great friend. My fellow Aussie, JOPHESTUS, who kept me company during the ups and downs of the road that I chose the travel on. IRC was always fun with JOPH around, even if it included making fun of lol768. Thanks to hawkfalcon, an awesome avian friend I have known for the large majority of this chapter. Always a fun, loving and all-knowing guy to be with, lol768 was always there, whether it be staff concerns, advice or just a good ol’ chat. And finally, thanks to all the developers, authors, PR handlers, players, sever owners and everyone else that made this journey possible. The work countless hours I have put in, the even greater amount of time I have seen those around me put in, and these experiences have brought me closer to the community I have learned to love. The inseparable relationships that have formed My journey at Bukkit has been such an amazing ride - a roller-coaster that I had hoped to never stop rolling. But this intimacy has only made recent events hit home harder. As a result of these events, volunteering for BukkitDev is not something that I can maintain any further. As of this day, I am resigning from BukkitDev. As a result of recent actions from Mojang and Curse, I am no longer able to find the motivation to continue assisting with BukkitDev. Volunteering was my way of giving back to a community that provided so much for me, but unfortunately that incentive is no longer present. It has been a wonderful journey, but a spring can only stretch so far. This is where I sign my name and end my story. This time has been amazing, and I can’t thank everyone enough for it. With a heavy heart, it's time to close this chapter of my life. We shall see what the future may hold. - DSH105
Thanks for all your hard work on bukkit servers wouldn't exist without the work put into this project. Do you plan on continuing to develop your plugins? This might also be of interest. http://www.reddit.com/r/admincraft/comments/2foll6/weve_gotten_together_developers_from_spout_forge/
Honestly, you were my role model DBO staff (sorry others but tis' true). I always looked up to you and marveled at the countless APIs and plugins that you had pioneered (EchoPet, HoloAPI, etc.). I still remember, as a newbie developer being introduced to NMS, reading your WASD Entity Riding thread and incorporating into my plugin. Do drop by and visit again sometime! Maybe, in the future, there'll be an even more cohesive community. And once again, thanks for all your hard work!
I'm not confirming anything in that regard as I'm still unsure. We'll have to wait and see those feels <3 Thanks so much for recognising; I never thought I would have people look up to me. This knowledge makes it so much harder to leave behind. I hope to see you in the somewhere in the future
Thank you for all you have done with the BukkitDev team. The whole community would never be as strong, and willing to lend a helping hand without the examples set by you and your colleagues. As a Bukkit Server owner, I am deeply saddened to hear of all of these resignations, but I want to wish you all the best on your future endeavors. Thank you for all you've done, jrborman13
Goodbye man. I will always love- wait... Love your work. Tons of the stuff you've done is outstanding, and I hope we'll be able to keep in touch. If you don't remember me, I hopped around your IRC room every once in a while, and helped you port EchoPet for MCPC+. Most of what you've done was and is amazing, and I hope to see you around again soon.
