Permissionsbukkit is working fine on 1.8.1. What problem are you having?

    As am I.

I actually switched from Permissions 3.x to PermissionsBukkit while running 1.8.1 + (yeah, stupid, I know - thankfully there was no problems whatsoever)

It says its enabled, it should work.

What exactly isn't working? Did you put yourself in the correct group? does that group has the required permissions?

How do you use the permission nodes like in permissions 3.1.6 with permissionsbukkit?
