Introducing BukkitDev, a new service by Bukkit and Curse!

    BukkitDev is the missing link in the project management chain prevalent in the Minecraft community. The popular solution of making use of forum software - something designed specifically for single-threaded discussion - leaves developers painfully scavenging through threads made up of hundreds of pages simply to get to that one bug report you finally addressed. It is all very tedious and time-consuming; time lost that could be better spent doing what you love - bringing to life those mad, awesome ideas you have running around in your head. With BukkitDev, each project has their own mini-community and tools that developers are free to moderate and make use of; per-project issue trackers and forums are just a few of the advantages BukkitDev has over using a traditional forum based solution.

    As detailed below, BukkitDev provides you with a complete project management solution that makes maintaining and updating your project a breeze. While many of the things BukkitDev has to offer were what we planned Fill to eventually be, there is no way we would be able to achieve the level of maturity and polish that BukkitDev currently has without the support and backing we now have from Curse. Moving forward, with the support of Curse, we are able to provide the community with some much-needed resources and support that we simply could not do alone. Thanks to Curse's support, we can now confidently provide stable, long lasting download hosting to every project within the community and since this takes advantage of the extensive and powerful Curse.com distribution platform, the reach and exposure your projects have will increase significantly. Since BukkitDev makes use of the Curse.com platform, your Bukkit community accounts won't work - you will have to use Curse accounts instead.

    The Bukkit Project has been about giving the community what they need from day one and with Curse backing the project, we're now provided with a unique opportunity to make that happen. With the help of Curse we've been in active discussion and working closely with Mojang to help them with testing and provide us with the ability to have updates ready shortly after a Minecraft update goes live, reducing the amount of downtime the community run servers face to virtually no time at all, allowing you to experience the full update in your own time and not ours.

    Looking toward the future, the Bukkit Project hopes to work with Mojang and Curse to continue to provide the Minecraft community with the tools they need to continue to make magic happen. As a first step, we're offering the BukkitDev service to client modders to help manage and promote their project just as efficiently as server modders can. We hope to expand this service in the future by exploring the possibility of providing a central client mod base with the cooperation and support of Mojang.

    Other improvements over our current implementation for plugin releases:
    • Multiple authors per project with permissions handling (for example, you can have a Project Manager, Project Owner, Documenter, Translator, etc).
    • Per-project subscriptions so people interested in your project can follow its progress.
    • Curse provided hosting for your downloads
    • Extra exposure through Curse.com, a high traffic content hub for Minecraft, as well as other games.
    While it is still a little rough on the edges, both Curse and Bukkit are committed to providing the Minecraft community with the best solution we can offer developers to make sharing, managing and supporting their projects as smooth as possible.     Why there is no "add to fav" button?
    It would be very nice feature for server admins to keep all the mods they are using on single page.

    to bad that bukkitdev is not working can not even open the site. site not found.
    Now that some develepors are switch to http://dev.bukkit.org/ i have a problem to get new updates for my plugin testserver.
    i have tried from 3 difrent locations in the netherlands and all :website not found

    Some questions:

    1. In .pkgmeta, externals upload the project to eg. git(hub)?

    2. To be able to upload to github, you need to add the rsa key to github, so you have to add the key of BukkitDev?

    3. If I add BukkitDev, anyone can alter my github repo through it?

    I think (/wish) that Im wrong...

    I get an error 500 since about friday, both on login and on create account. Login on minecraft.net and bukkit.org does work.

    So what's the simple method for setting and viewing my favorite plugins and seeing a list of them?

    Also, the first thing I do when I'm looking at a new plugin or looking to update an existing one is scroll to the last comments on its forum page to see what people are saying. This is invaluable as an op, as I can many times instantly see if it's a fail build or people are having specific issues. What do we look at now, tickets? Or are you retaining the plugin releases threads for each plugin?

    Seriously this new update on plugins is really BAD. Most plugins don't have download link, I need to create a new account but the registry always says "Bad Request", Can't even tell which bukkit version the plugin is, and the list goes on. Please make a rollback to the old plugins display :mad:

    I think that this is a good idea, but I don't like that you have already changed the plugin list. The new list doesn't have many plugins, and now it is harder to find the good old plugins, that authors haven't moved to the new list yet. I think you should wait until a lot more plugins are moved, or at least give the chance for people to move between .dev list and bukkit.org list.

    Nothing dev.bukkit related works for me. All the pages with dev.bukkit are "not found" by Safari and Google Chrome... :/

    Agreed. At least in the state that it's in now. The potential is there for a great resource, but some things need to be added before it becomes useful for server admins.

    1. Some type of Favorite's list (like the watched threads option here). The email notifications are useless.
    2. If bukkitdev is actually going to take the place of these forums then the plugin authors need to go ahead and turn on the forum section for their plugins, make a final post with a link to bukkitdev and close the topic here.

    imo, i find this as a waste. i think it would of been better to just add these features to the normal bukkit. With this new BukkitDev it made the plugins search feature unusable. i cant find my plugins or certain other plugins i want. it seems i have to switch over to Bukkit Dev so people can find my plugin

    well if it comes down to it ill quit making plugins. this creole BULLSH*T is pathetic. its utterly rediculous to understand. i have no F*in clue how to setup my page.

    ok heres a perfect example,
    a player emails me tells me the spout launcher is not working,
    i try it and mine isnt working
    i go to get plugins and type spout
    it takes me to the external bukkit dev site
    i cant find the launcher listed there so i goto my bookmark
    i find that spout have removed all links here and put them on bukkit dev
    i go back to bukkit dev and locate the client which is in an entirely different thread on there!
    i still have the error so i go to post about it
    it wont let me log in on bukkit dev (incorrect password)
    so i have posted on the one i had bookmarked, about 3 other people have as well now


    do you see how complicated you guys have made this? please ditch the bukkit dev site, it is useless to us server ops! the old system was perfect 100% spot on!

    I'm confused why everyone is complaining about bukkit dev. There were a few quirks, but those are being worked on. Managing a forum thread has been a huge pain in the ass for us developers (especially if there's more than one of us) and this new site allows a lot more flexibility as well as better searching. Example:

    http://dev.bukkit.org/search/?search=multiverse

    That link searches bukkit dev for "multiverse"
    The top 4 results are Multiverse and it's plugins, followed by discussion, followed by other mentions. Now let's try this again:

    http://forums.bukkit.org/search/2574491/?q=multiverse&o=date

    Not even the thread... it's nowhere to be found. Yes the thread's been closed down, but even when it wern't, I'd have to use my notifications to find my own threads...

    This is a great change and it's going to help out a lot in the future.

    Why couldn't you keep using the old plugins system?
    Many plugins don't even have BukkitDev pages, and the sudden change in systems throws us server admins a real curveball.

    i never had any problem finding plugins on here

    i use the last two pages of a plugins thread to find out any problems or errors that may prevent me from updating or adding it, also to see if theres fixes for said problems

    i DO NOT forget passwords, my account simply hasnt been merged over to it yet or if it has the password has not copied right

    im sorry but at the moment its a complete mess, its making the job of running a server 3 times harder

    Well, I don't know about that... I've tried to search for some plugins that are fairly popular... nothing comes up for them ans sometimes everything but what I'm looking for pops up.
    A good example is Falsebook... the only way to bring it up is to Google it. I than am taken to the old Bukkit forums, where I still can't properly search for things because I'm brought back to Bukkit Dev.

    Dont get me wrong... I can appreciate the need for all the plugin developers. And I appreciate the head aches involved setting this site up!! Yikes! I would not want to be in the middle of that!:eek:
    The thing is, this should easy to use for both server owners and plugin developers.

    Ok... having said all that... Bukkit Dev is still new to us all... I'm sure that it will change and grow, over time, as everyone's needs are realized.

    Chances are if they don't have a BukkitDev page by now, either they:
    - Haven't gotten the BukkitDev memo, in which case you can post on their thread "Hey you should create a BukkitDev page for your plugin!"
    - Are Sticking it to the man... (why exactly? I'll never know...)
    - Are inactive.

    Chances are it's either A or C, and between those two, it's more likely an inactive plugin. The point is, yes it is change, and I've seen the ability to give other users the ability to update the posts a huge plus. This way a plugin is not tied directly to 1 author, meaning that once that person has decided they're done, the plugin can continue being updated.

    This is up to the dev, Some devs use GitHub issues, others use the BukkitDev forum specifically for the plugin. If you can't find either of these, post in the current thread and ask the dev where you should post a bug report (and mabye include it in that post)

    PS: Here's an example of the BukkitDev forums i'm talking about: http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/multiverse-core/forum/ Each plugin author has to enable the forums on their plugin page, so maybe a pm to them asking them to enable would work too.

    Getting vague error messages when trying to signup.
