Interest in a XMPP plugin?

This is not a much a request as I am thinking of making it, but is there interest in some sort of XMPP (jabber, google talk) integration with bukkit/minecraft? I'm not sure on the scope I want to undertake -- anything from a bridge like CraftIRC to its own jabber server. I'm just seeing if there is any interest first.

I'm interested as well. Would be cool, if Admins could chat and execute commands in game using Jabber.

And why bulding in an own XMPP-Server? The plugin just has to behave like a normal Jabber-Client and connect, as a client, to any of the many Jabber-Servers out there. This way you don't have to open more ports. Good for security too.
And I think the code would be easier to maintain for you as well.

 

Did you start working on it? And if so when can I expect a release?

 

All my attempts on getting clients to connect to my server failed. I'm willing to work on it again but Eclipse is broken on my natty install

 

Would it be possible to use a CraftIRC like plugin which uses MUCs (instead of IRC)?
