Immunity length after damage?

Does anyone know how long a player is immune from damage after being attacked? I know entities are immune to damage for a certain time after being hit, unless the damage is more then the previous amount of damage, but I can't find anywhere as to how long that immunity actually lasts.

I need to know for a plugin in which I cancel all damage events, but still need to simulate the immunity effect.
