How are servers in 1.8?

    Hey I see servers like Hypixel in version 1.8 and I was wondering how that is possible. Are they not using Bukkit? Are there alternatives (not incomplete) out there to use?

    Hypixel and other big networks are NOT in 1.8, they are in 1.7.x. They are using Spigot which has a Protocol Hack that allows updated clients to join an outdated server. Many features for 1.8 will be broken, not working how it should, or would just crash. Some features that are only rendered/used client side can be done by tricking the client with packets(Titles and other 1.8 features).

    There are a few alternatives out with working builds, but they themselves are very buggy and mostly underdeveloped.
