Old description (open)
If you enjoy fighting monsters for glorious prizes or just the sheer thrill of battle, you and your friends can now join forces against hordes of Minecraft evils in the exciting gladiator-style survival mini-game MobArena!

Heavily inspired by Deminetix' Fight-plugin, MobArena is a PvE-take on arena-gameplay, with a similar class-based system. Instead of fighting other players, you team up with them to beat oncoming waves of monsters, earning rewards in the process. MobArena can be played alone, or with as many friends as you like!

• Fight oncoming waves of monsters
• Play alone or team up with friends
• Earn glorious prizes
• Customizable classes, rewards and waves
• Easy to set up
• Extremely easy to use
• Very few user commands
• Supports Permissions and all major economies
• Supports Spout
• Supports Heroes
Note: When you post a bug report, please provide a stacktrace/error from the server log/console window. Post this stacktrace in either a pastebin, a pastie, or a CODE-block! The same applies for config-files, permissions-files, etc! Please don't put them directly in your posts, as they become gigantic and annoying to read. If you don't follow this guideline, I might ignore your post!

Wiki - Instructions, commands, FAQ, etc.
I have set up a Wiki for MobArena. It contains a bunch of information and guides on how to set up and customize arenas, an overview of all the commands, how to set up Permissions, as well as frequently asked questions.

New: MobArena now has its own IRC channel (#mobarena @ EsperNet). Click here for a web-based IRC client. Feel free to stop by to get help setting everything up if you really don't understand the Wiki and the instructional video, or to have a chat about MobArena (or anything else, for that matter) :)

To avoid wasting not only your own time, but mine as well, I expect everyone to do some extensive troubleshooting before posting bug reports. What does this mean?

Try MobArena on a fresh server.
MobArena works perfectly fine when I release it. Sure, there are a few bugs, but it works. If it doesn't work for you, something is most likely wrong on your end. Set up a local test-server, and verify that MobArena works before claiming that it doesn't. When you have verified that MobArena does indeed work, you can start adding other plugins and settings until something conflicts.

Disable other plugins.
The first thing you need to do is disable all other plugins. If you can't reproduce the bug with other plugins disabled, you know that you have a conflicting plugin. Now perform a binary search on the other plugins, or if you don't know how to do that, just add a couple of plugins back to the plugins-folder, try to reproduce the bug, and if you can't, the conflicting plugin must be in the remaining set of plugins.

Write down reproduction steps.
Figure out the exact steps to reproduce/trigger the bug. I need precise steps, and as much information as possible, because there are often many things that could be going on. An example of reproduction steps could be:
1. Type /ma join
2. Punch the Archer class sign
3. Wait for someone else to join
4. Punch the iron block
5. Type /ma leave before the other player picks a class

Check the console window/server.log
Make sure you check the server.log file for any MobArena errors or exceptions. If you find any, copy the ENTIRE exception (including all the lines that say "at com.garbagemule.MobArena...") and paste it (with the other information) in a CODE-tag here in the thread.

I develop MobArena for the fun of it and the positive feedback is all it takes to make me happy, but a few people have asked for a link, so if you're one of them, here's a link: Donate - You can donate as much as you want, even down to a few cents! If I get enough donations, I will spend the money on an extra Minecraft account to aid me in developing/testing/debugging MobArena :)

• Updated for CB 1337.
• The repair-delay node is now unused! The reason for this is that it is now possible (with the release of 1317) to cancel block damage in explosions, and still retain the animation and sound! This also means that arenas should be fully pistons-compatible (for arenas that don't use soft-restore or force-restore)! I'm hoping to see some screenshots and videos of shifting arenas! :)
• You can now right-click signs in the lobby! I finally found a super easy solution to the improperly updating inventory issue with right-clicking class signs. The result is that players can now left- or right-click as they please. This should solve all issues related to players not being able to choose classes, due to spawn region and WorldGuard/Factions/whatever conflicts.
• It is no longer possible to warp out of the lobby.
• New per-arena setting: final-wave - Allows for setting a final wave, meaning on that wave, the arena will end, regardless of how many players are alive.
Version (open)

• v0.94.3.11 - Updated Register, built against CB 1240.
• v0.94.3.8 - Added basic leaderboards.
• v0.94.3.6 - Fixed MagicSpells support - MobArena no longer supports MagicSpells pre-v1.1!
• v0.94.3.5 - Fixed a bunch of bugs introduced with CB 1185, as well as a couple of minor MobArena bugs.
• Updated for CraftBukkit #1185
• Updated economy support (now supports iConomy 6).
• Added the three new mob types, Enderman/Endermen, CaveSpider/CaveSpiders, Silverfish. They can be used just like the other mob types in the waves.
• Endermen cannot pick up arena blocks (this is why).
• Endermen cannot place blocks in arena regions.
• The per-class permission syntax has been fixed and changed slightly. The Wiki has been updated (clicky).
• Fixed MagicSpells issues.
Version 0.94.2 (open)

• Redstone circuits now work properly in arenas.
• Lightning now properly strikes on spawnpoints on special waves.
• Fixed an issue where players somehow warping/cheating out of the arena world get kicked from the server when discovered.
• Added MagicSpells support. Use the magicspells.yml file to ban certain spells from the arena either for the whole session, or only during boss waves.
• Fixed the Heroes death conflict. MobArena and Heroes should now play nice together. Further Heroes support is planned for upcoming releases.
• MobArena will no longer support the discontinued Permissions 2.x and 3.x permission systems. Recommended permissions systems include PermissionsBukkit (defacto standard) or PermissionsEX.
Version 0.94.1 (open)

• Added two new boss abilities: 'shuffle-positions' and 'flood'. Try them out!
• Players disconnecting/crashing during an arena session no longer get corrupted data files due to economy rewards.
• Weapon durability is now correctly set to "unlimited".
• Item sub-types (cocoa beans, bonemeal, colored wool, etc.) now work again.
• Players can no longer join the arena without first picking a class.
• MobArena now works with spawn-monsters=false again.
Version 0.94 (open)

• Completely revamped the waves system! Undeniably the biggest feature in MobArena since multiple arenas in v0.92, the new customizable waves are guaranteed to bring much more awesomeness to your MobArenas. The waves system brings two new wave types, swarm waves and boss waves. The latter is a very elaborate feature, and the whole waves system has been given its own page on the Wiki. Note: MobArena will ignore all old wave settings, but use sane defaults.
• Revamped the logging system. Instead of logging: true, you can now use logging: yml/xml. The logging system will now keep track of the last session only, but also maintain a collection of 'totals' for each arena. The idea behind these easy-to-parse files is making the stats available on server web pages.
• Added SuperPerms/PermissionsBukkit support. Note that specifying mobarena.arenas.* and mobarena.classes.* probably won't work, but these nodes are given to everyone by default.
• Added Spout support. Currently, the only Spouty thing MobArena does is print (some) announcements as notifications/achievements. This should limit the amount of "chat spam" that MobArena produces. Other Spout-features are planned, but don't expect something crazy. Note that MobArena does NOT require Spout!
• Monsters will no longer target pet wolves. This is a major nerf to pet classes, but they were very overpowered as it was.
• Fixed item amounts greater than 64 sometimes bugging out. You should now be able to put arrow:1024 for your Archer classes :)
• Fixed players losing their stored items and/or earned rewards upon disconnecting from the arena.
• Fixed blocks not restoring when burned by fire.
• Fixed an issue with entry fees. They should no longer cause any problems.
• Fixed slimes. That's right! Slimes that spawn as a result of bigger slimes splitting upon death are now considered arena monsters. This also means that Slimes no longer drop slime balls; as intended.
• Revamped the repairing algorithm. It is now MUCH more sophisticated, and is capable of repairing not only signs and containers, but also torches, doors and beds. Redstone -should- repair properly as well, but it is still slightly buggy.
• Added support for restorable containers. Registered chests, dispensers, and furnaces will have their contents stored upon arena start, and restored at arena end. This is useful for providing the arena players with chests with e.g. upgrades or food.
• Added new commands (for the feature above) - /ma addcontainer <name>, /ma delcontainer <name>, /ma containers. These commands work much like the the spawnpoint commands. To add a container, simply look at the container and type /ma addcontainer <name>.

2. Garbagemule, let this be one of the posts that you like :). I just updated to 0.93.3, and the plugin is working just fine.

At this time, I'm still running MC 1.7.2 and CB 953, but I'm not seeing any of the reports of problems 'porting back to the spectator area, arena, or items being kept. The only 'bug', if you can call it that, that I see is the players health is restored to full after leaving the area. I have tested and can reproduce it at will by the following:
1. Get hurt :)
2. /ma j (or join)
3. Appear in the lobby, /ma l (or leave)
4. Reappear where the join command was run, but with full health. This also happens after playing in the arena itself.
That is the only 'issue' I have with it, and it's not really much of one. Thank you for a very fun plugin and being as responsive to us, the users, as you are!

Nice issue above.. Another Issue/Bug i found is.. I set a fee $30.. yeah it's working fine except when u have an insufficient fund.. u can still join the game..

I have $17.00
I type /ma join
it says Insufficient Fund
I type again /ma join
and I am officialy joined
I look at my balance and it says $17.00
so it didn't became negative(i didn't allow that) nor it became 0.00
I /ma leave and my items are all gone

The following occur when the arena resets with force-restore on true:
• Doors are deleted
• Blown up signs do not reappear, nor keep their text
• Half-slabs (and any other object with a data value (trees, stairs, saplings, etc.) reload as data value 0, not what they formally were.
• Stairs are turned upon reloading
• Large area fires that are extinguished during game are not 100% reloaded, some fires remain unlit. (yes, they're on netherrack)
The following happen when players leave the game or die in the arena:

• If they fell in lava, they will remain on fire when sent to the spectator room
If you need any images, videos, or other important information, please reply.

PS: Could you make a configuration of how many monsters spawn per round?
PSS: Reply back :D

Can I make some suggestions ? Two, to be more accurate.

The first one is about announcement when waves are coming. At the moment, we need to configure two values :
• first-wave-delay
• wave-interval
As I know, and as I have seen, when the delays are reached, you send a message in the chat "Prepare yourself for wave XX" and the mobs spawn. Either the message is inappropriate, or you need to send it before the monsters spawn.
I think that it's better to send the preparation message 3 or 5 seconds (Or maybe a configurable value) before the waves spawn so we really have the time to prepare us.

The second one is about the add of a third wave type : supplying waves !
During those special waves, only passive mobs can be spawn. At the moment, only pigs can drop food but with Minecraft 1.8, chicken (And probably cow too) will drop foods.
Despite it's not really useful at the moment, it could be an interesting wave when MC 1.8 will be out. Placing them at a good interval could add a new strategic dimension in the food management. We begin the match with a little amount of food and we know that the XXX wave will supply us with fresh meat ! So we know that we have to use our current stock carefully if we won't die because we have eat everything. And because the food drop rate is random, it's even more interesting because we can't be sure that we will have all the food needed.

That's all, for the moment. :p

Edit : at the moment, to make the supplying waves interesting, you can maybe modify what sheep and cows drop so they can also drop food. :)

Is it only me getting a bug where small bits of the arena blown up by creepers wont repair sometimes? Like single blocks? :/
7. Offline

You could change the 'Let the slaughter begin!' message to say 'Prepare yourself for the first wave'
Only works for the first wave though...

Spectator warp is inside the arena region (aka between p1 and p2), as is my lobby.

Did you happen to see any error messages in your server log?

i keep getting " you don't have permission for this command " when i type /ma join
i read the config file over and over again but i coudn't find anything that keeps me from joining the arena
does someone knows this problem or can someone help me please

13. Offline

@hakuakia did you make sure to add the permissions for joining specific arenas?
for all of them

for a specific arena

if you have - '*' permission that should already give you access to every arena, and at which point idk why you have that error
14. Offline

where do i can check this ? i'm a total noob with configuration so :s

edit : looked it up, i don't have permissions ( anymore ) appearently, should i add it to my plugins ?
15. Offline

do you have a permissions plugin? if you do then find the file that holds all the permissions.
if you don't have one, OPs should be able to create the arena and anyone should be able to join I believe...

i can't find a folder with the name permissions anywhere ( or something like permissions )
i guess it's somewhere in the essentials or worldguard plugin ( wich i have both )

should i download and install a permissions plugin or remove all other plugins from my server ??
17. Offline

hmm... do you have something called group manager per chance? that's a permissions plugin as well

yay, that's it, should i change something in there

Everyone who is having issues with warping/teleporting: Set allow-teleporting: true OR spectate-on-death: false to temporarily fix this issue until I can push the next bugfix release.

@Safetybrick - If you get the update message, you're not running 0.93.3. You might need to clear your cache. The primary download-link should be immune to caching, but you never know.

@Snipe76 - You don't have to kill slimes with a bow to get them to drop slimeballs. Command that changes the current wave? No, sorry.

@ACStache - You and your invisible posts D: I'm not sure when you're supposed to get taming experience in mcMMO. Is it when you attack wolves? Or when tamed wolves attack something?

@Aramillio - No, if you have multiple arenas and you type /ma join without an arena, you get the message "You must specify an arena. Type /ma arenas for a list." You must be either using old versions of either MobArena or CraftBukkit, or you have a conflicting plugin. I'm sure that you 'as a programmer' also understand the uselessness of "it does this" without actually posting the 'this' ;) Can you please post the stacktrace, your config-file and which versions of CraftBukkit and MobArena you are running? Monsters shouldn't spawn inside the arena unless the arena is running and the spawn reason is "CUSTOM", meaning mobs won't spawn naturally. Other plugins might spawn monsters in the arena or uncancel the spawn event, though, and perhaps somehow alter the spawn reason. There's no way to actually prevent mobs from spawning in the way you might think, as the spawn event is handled before the spawnCreature-method has finished. So I either have to do a bunch of bloaty entity iterations every so often, or something else - I just haven't found that 'else'. Perhaps you could take a look?

@Sayshal - The PVP in the spectator area is not a bug. There is no actual spectator "area" - only a warp point. Spectators aren't meant to be immune to damage - at all. Expand your arean region to cover the spectator area if you want to disable PVP there.

@thestriker095 - Define the lobby region, or expand the arena region to cover the lobby as well.

@columb - It has nothing to do with trust. I need your config-file so I can try copying your server setup to see if any of your settings may be the issue. Spider jockeys will not be added at this time - they are jerky and unpleasant to look at.

@Justin The Cynical - Haha! Indeed I like your post! Thanks for the report. The player health isn't actually stored upon player join, but what an amazing idea! That way, players can NEVER use MobArena as a "healing station", and healing upon joining makes more sense. I'll look into this :)

@morizuki - LOL, I am going to try to fix this bug, but for now, let's call it a feature and say that "that'll teach them to listen to the message the first time!" :D

@Clucky - Please read the note in the main post! Yes, force-restore is extremely buggy, and I highly suggest that you do not use it. The extra data is not recorded, so it is really only for small, simple arenas. Use soft-restore if at all possible. Fire stuff I will look into. Wave customization - read the To-do list. LOVE the arena :)

@Tuttu - You can change the announcements however you want. See if you can find a more fitting announcement. The "x seconds before each wave" is not gonna happen, simply because it's too difficult/bloaty to implement and keep compatible with clear-wave-before-next: true. The 'supplying waves' idea is fair, but will most likely not happen (not with drops anyway). Bonuses will be added later.

@ohmydoddtv - Set repair-delay higher or to 0.

@ZeSpyz0 - You're doing something wrong. Read the server log and post any exceptions related to MobArena in a CODE-block.

@darkwarriors - Sounds like you're using an old version of MobArena. Please update.

@hakuakia - You have Permissions or GroupManager installed. Read the Permissions-page on the Wiki, and read the GroupManager documents if you don't know how to use it. Or better, delete GroupManager if you don't know how to use it, because you probably don't need it then.

@garbagemule I'm a post ninja! wait... that's a bad thing :( cause then you don't see them lol.

as for the taming exp, this is from mcMMO's page:
basically, if you have tamed wolves, you get taming exp while in combat from the sound of it

edit: I guess the question is this - when you spawn pet classes their wolves, do they get assigned the player as their owner? I'm guessing they would otherwise you'd be able to kill them :p lol
22. Offline

The players are assigned as the owner, but since they're invincible, the damage events get cancelled. This could be what's messing up mcMMO. Not really sure how we'd go about fixing it, though...
23. Offline

interesting... that makes some sense

@garbagemule idk if it helps at all, but nossr50 was kind enough to provide the code on how taming works

Show Spoiler

also, being a smart person I am (not really, found it by chance :p) I typed /taming to see what my skill level was. and this is what I saw:
XP GAIN: Wolves getting harmed
LVL: 185 XP(266/470)
the important part being how it's gained :p lol. can we have a config option (per arena if possible) for mortal tamed wolves? or was them being invincible because players would have other players' wolves attacking them if they got damaged?
