Old description (open)
If you enjoy fighting monsters for glorious prizes or just the sheer thrill of battle, you and your friends can now join forces against hordes of Minecraft evils in the exciting gladiator-style survival mini-game MobArena!

Heavily inspired by Deminetix' Fight-plugin, MobArena is a PvE-take on arena-gameplay, with a similar class-based system. Instead of fighting other players, you team up with them to beat oncoming waves of monsters, earning rewards in the process. MobArena can be played alone, or with as many friends as you like!

• Fight oncoming waves of monsters
• Play alone or team up with friends
• Earn glorious prizes
• Customizable classes, rewards and waves
• Easy to set up
• Extremely easy to use
• Very few user commands
• Supports Permissions and all major economies
• Supports Spout
• Supports Heroes
Note: When you post a bug report, please provide a stacktrace/error from the server log/console window. Post this stacktrace in either a pastebin, a pastie, or a CODE-block! The same applies for config-files, permissions-files, etc! Please don't put them directly in your posts, as they become gigantic and annoying to read. If you don't follow this guideline, I might ignore your post!

Wiki - Instructions, commands, FAQ, etc.
I have set up a Wiki for MobArena. It contains a bunch of information and guides on how to set up and customize arenas, an overview of all the commands, how to set up Permissions, as well as frequently asked questions.

New: MobArena now has its own IRC channel (#mobarena @ EsperNet). Click here for a web-based IRC client. Feel free to stop by to get help setting everything up if you really don't understand the Wiki and the instructional video, or to have a chat about MobArena (or anything else, for that matter) :)

To avoid wasting not only your own time, but mine as well, I expect everyone to do some extensive troubleshooting before posting bug reports. What does this mean?

Try MobArena on a fresh server.
MobArena works perfectly fine when I release it. Sure, there are a few bugs, but it works. If it doesn't work for you, something is most likely wrong on your end. Set up a local test-server, and verify that MobArena works before claiming that it doesn't. When you have verified that MobArena does indeed work, you can start adding other plugins and settings until something conflicts.

Disable other plugins.
The first thing you need to do is disable all other plugins. If you can't reproduce the bug with other plugins disabled, you know that you have a conflicting plugin. Now perform a binary search on the other plugins, or if you don't know how to do that, just add a couple of plugins back to the plugins-folder, try to reproduce the bug, and if you can't, the conflicting plugin must be in the remaining set of plugins.

Write down reproduction steps.
Figure out the exact steps to reproduce/trigger the bug. I need precise steps, and as much information as possible, because there are often many things that could be going on. An example of reproduction steps could be:
1. Type /ma join
2. Punch the Archer class sign
3. Wait for someone else to join
4. Punch the iron block
5. Type /ma leave before the other player picks a class

Check the console window/server.log
Make sure you check the server.log file for any MobArena errors or exceptions. If you find any, copy the ENTIRE exception (including all the lines that say "at com.garbagemule.MobArena...") and paste it (with the other information) in a CODE-tag here in the thread.

I develop MobArena for the fun of it and the positive feedback is all it takes to make me happy, but a few people have asked for a link, so if you're one of them, here's a link: Donate - You can donate as much as you want, even down to a few cents! If I get enough donations, I will spend the money on an extra Minecraft account to aid me in developing/testing/debugging MobArena :)

• Updated for CB 1337.
• The repair-delay node is now unused! The reason for this is that it is now possible (with the release of 1317) to cancel block damage in explosions, and still retain the animation and sound! This also means that arenas should be fully pistons-compatible (for arenas that don't use soft-restore or force-restore)! I'm hoping to see some screenshots and videos of shifting arenas! :)
• You can now right-click signs in the lobby! I finally found a super easy solution to the improperly updating inventory issue with right-clicking class signs. The result is that players can now left- or right-click as they please. This should solve all issues related to players not being able to choose classes, due to spawn region and WorldGuard/Factions/whatever conflicts.
• It is no longer possible to warp out of the lobby.
• New per-arena setting: final-wave - Allows for setting a final wave, meaning on that wave, the arena will end, regardless of how many players are alive.
Version (open)

• v0.94.3.11 - Updated Register, built against CB 1240.
• v0.94.3.8 - Added basic leaderboards.
• v0.94.3.6 - Fixed MagicSpells support - MobArena no longer supports MagicSpells pre-v1.1!
• v0.94.3.5 - Fixed a bunch of bugs introduced with CB 1185, as well as a couple of minor MobArena bugs.
• Updated for CraftBukkit #1185
• Updated economy support (now supports iConomy 6).
• Added the three new mob types, Enderman/Endermen, CaveSpider/CaveSpiders, Silverfish. They can be used just like the other mob types in the waves.
• Endermen cannot pick up arena blocks (this is why).
• Endermen cannot place blocks in arena regions.
• The per-class permission syntax has been fixed and changed slightly. The Wiki has been updated (clicky).
• Fixed MagicSpells issues.
Version 0.94.2 (open)

• Redstone circuits now work properly in arenas.
• Lightning now properly strikes on spawnpoints on special waves.
• Fixed an issue where players somehow warping/cheating out of the arena world get kicked from the server when discovered.
• Added MagicSpells support. Use the magicspells.yml file to ban certain spells from the arena either for the whole session, or only during boss waves.
• Fixed the Heroes death conflict. MobArena and Heroes should now play nice together. Further Heroes support is planned for upcoming releases.
• MobArena will no longer support the discontinued Permissions 2.x and 3.x permission systems. Recommended permissions systems include PermissionsBukkit (defacto standard) or PermissionsEX.
Version 0.94.1 (open)

• Added two new boss abilities: 'shuffle-positions' and 'flood'. Try them out!
• Players disconnecting/crashing during an arena session no longer get corrupted data files due to economy rewards.
• Weapon durability is now correctly set to "unlimited".
• Item sub-types (cocoa beans, bonemeal, colored wool, etc.) now work again.
• Players can no longer join the arena without first picking a class.
• MobArena now works with spawn-monsters=false again.
Version 0.94 (open)

• Completely revamped the waves system! Undeniably the biggest feature in MobArena since multiple arenas in v0.92, the new customizable waves are guaranteed to bring much more awesomeness to your MobArenas. The waves system brings two new wave types, swarm waves and boss waves. The latter is a very elaborate feature, and the whole waves system has been given its own page on the Wiki. Note: MobArena will ignore all old wave settings, but use sane defaults.
• Revamped the logging system. Instead of logging: true, you can now use logging: yml/xml. The logging system will now keep track of the last session only, but also maintain a collection of 'totals' for each arena. The idea behind these easy-to-parse files is making the stats available on server web pages.
• Added SuperPerms/PermissionsBukkit support. Note that specifying mobarena.arenas.* and mobarena.classes.* probably won't work, but these nodes are given to everyone by default.
• Added Spout support. Currently, the only Spouty thing MobArena does is print (some) announcements as notifications/achievements. This should limit the amount of "chat spam" that MobArena produces. Other Spout-features are planned, but don't expect something crazy. Note that MobArena does NOT require Spout!
• Monsters will no longer target pet wolves. This is a major nerf to pet classes, but they were very overpowered as it was.
• Fixed item amounts greater than 64 sometimes bugging out. You should now be able to put arrow:1024 for your Archer classes :)
• Fixed players losing their stored items and/or earned rewards upon disconnecting from the arena.
• Fixed blocks not restoring when burned by fire.
• Fixed an issue with entry fees. They should no longer cause any problems.
• Fixed slimes. That's right! Slimes that spawn as a result of bigger slimes splitting upon death are now considered arena monsters. This also means that Slimes no longer drop slime balls; as intended.
• Revamped the repairing algorithm. It is now MUCH more sophisticated, and is capable of repairing not only signs and containers, but also torches, doors and beds. Redstone -should- repair properly as well, but it is still slightly buggy.
• Added support for restorable containers. Registered chests, dispensers, and furnaces will have their contents stored upon arena start, and restored at arena end. This is useful for providing the arena players with chests with e.g. upgrades or food.
• Added new commands (for the feature above) - /ma addcontainer <name>, /ma delcontainer <name>, /ma containers. These commands work much like the the spawnpoint commands. To add a container, simply look at the container and type /ma addcontainer <name>.

@GasP - You have clear-wave-before-next: false, and wave-interval: 15. The idle timer is reset every time a new wave spawns, because with an idle time of 20, and an interval of 15, imagine killing all the monsters in 2 seconds. Then there's only 20-(15-2) = 7 seconds to kill the next wave of monsters. The problem is that the time people spend idling, waiting for new monsters to spawn, is an unfair property of the idle timer. Right now, when a monster is killed, the idle timer resets, but it also resets every time a new wave spawns. If you set clear-wave-before-next: true, the idle timer will be much more precise, I think. If you have an idea of how I could remedy your specific problem, please let me know. My first idea (with clear-wave-before-next: false) is to only reset the idle timer on a new wave, if the monster set is empty (meaning it doesn't reset if the players have had a chance to kill monsters before the next wave); how does that sound? As for your last question, I'm not sure what you mean; did the inventory issue CAUSE disconnects during arena, or was the inventory issue a RESULT of disconnecting during arena? Either way, I don't actually know :(

@tony687 - Leaderboards/scoreboards will be a feature in v1.0 (if not sooner). Killstreaks means keeping track, in a local arena scope, of a lot of data in collections that will be accessed by many events, possibly at the same time. The problem with this is that it might introduce either lag, or concurrency problems. I'll see what I can do (later), but I can't promise anything.

@vogt31337 - Dynamically changing arenas is something I have been pondering for a while, but the current setup doesn't allow it. The problem is that it would either involve setting up "sub-arenas", or "linking" arenas together - both solutions are incredibly complicated, both code-wise and setup-wise. For the time being, you'll have to do with "just" having multiple arenas to choose from.

@garbagemule Now i understand it. I thought idle timer is reset only by kill, i didn't know that new wave reset timer. Could you set it so only last kill reset timer instead of new wave?
Imagine - Player bugs out of arena wave timer is set on 20 seconds (that's what i used) and idle was 60 seconds. So the player can stay there for 3 rounds and then he is kicked - it doesn't really matter to me that he will get "free 3 rounds".
- No i meant - When someone disconnected during arena it caused that inventory file stayed in folder and then when player tries to join arena it says the error, because the file was already there. Only fix was restoring inventory thru command or deleting the file - you fixed that problem-

This is awesome!!! thanx for making this plugin!!!

only one thing:
when you launched the first update:
when i pick a class such as archer, then pick Tank, then pick Archer back, i have only 64 arrows,
first time i picked Archer class i had 128 arrows.

this also happens with my own frost giant class.
5. Offline

This has been here many times - do not put there 128 arrows -just do it "arrow:64,arrow:64"

@garbagemule Sure you can count on me ;)

//HAHAH! It works perfectly! As i wanted it - great job- you are java coder wizzard :D
(donated- not too much (but i hope even 5 bucks will make you hapier :)), just to show you that i am glad for that what you are doing :))

@GasP - I really appreciate your help with testing MobArena, thank you :) Would you mind testing out this build for the max-idle-time issue? I'd like you to time everything if possible. The idle timer is reset on new waves, but ONLY if there are no monsters in the arena. This should solve your 30 seconds = infinity issue. So basically, if there are 2 monsters left, and it's time for a new wave, the idle timer will -not- reset.

@dico200 - I'm glad you're liking MobArena :) Another user reported that separating the items into bundles of 64, and putting items in between those bundles in the item list resolves this issue. Try making it "arrow:64, bow, arrow:64, wood_sword, arrow:64" as a temporary fix, until I figure out how to resolve this issue.

@GasP - Thank you so much! Your help with testing was very much appreciated as it is, but this is very generous of you! Please make sure to fire off suggestions and bug reports if you have any (more) :)

can you add, that people who don't play in the Arena can teleport etc? that doesn't work here. :/
8. Offline

I think you mean so they could join arena in progress to spectate?

@garbagemule btw could you add iconomy support? So we could make arena fee and arena money reward after selected wave? That would be cool :) - right now i am using other solution how to reward money - after 30. wave you will get cocoa bean which you can sell for 300$ to a merchant in game (thru citizens)

For those having trouble with arrows/reagents not giving the right amount when clicking signs: Change your configs to be for example arrow:64, arrow:64, arrow:64, arrow:64 instead of arrow:256. You cannot currently use a stack size above 64, so just list the items this way until it gets hotfixed =)
10. Offline

Kind of.
When there play some persons in the Arena the other players can't use /god etc. I want that just the persons in the arena can't use these commands.
11. Offline

@imoro - Read the Wiki, and look in the setting up the config-file section. Edit: If other players can't use the commands, you probably have a conflicting plugin. I can use commands just fine if someone is in the arena and I'm not.

@GasP - Support for all major economies is coming in v1.0 (if not sooner). Still waiting a little bit to weed out all the bugs first :)

@Rpa;otj - Thanks for the tip! :)

Could you swap hellhounds with hostile wolves? So wolf master's wolves will be regular and hostile will burn :).
13. Offline

Can you build your own arena and still play? In my server I already have a pretty nice Coliseum and is it possible to suit the spawn waves in it?
14. Offline

Uhm... Yes? - Have you read wiki? I have 5 different arenas on my server
garbagemule likes this.
15. Offline

@GasP - It's a little involved to do that, because right now the wolves are invincible, which means they don't take damage from the fire. If I swap them around, I have to monitor which type of damage the wolves take, which might be a bit bloaty, but I will look into it :)

@Riddle - The whole point is to build your own arena! I sincerely hope everyone does that. The default arena is boring and bland. Go ahead! Set up the arena as per the instructions in the Wiki, and make sure to show the rest of us some screenshots :D
16. Offline

Lol you are right I haven't really thought over it... So i guess there is not possible way to make burning only as "visual effect" :D
17. Offline

I don't know how players are getting blocks from the arena walls, could it have something to do with worldguard? I have the arena in a worldguard region to stop people building crap around the outside of the arena.

also some recent version seems to have broken Ghasts, they used to fly around my arena but now they just sort of sit in one spot, which means if they spawn too high nobody can melee them
18. Offline

@Ratchet - It could very well have something to do with WorldGuard. Can you try testing without that region? With regards to Ghasts, I haven't done anything to the spawn algorithm. It could be coincidental. But yeah, they're still on the unofficial "not supported" list with Giants.
19. Offline

it's most certainly worldguard then I guess. I had to set build: allow in the arena region for the builder class, that must be what's letting blocks drop
20. any chance of highscores?
21. Offline

that would be sick! like a controlled minecart with a hit tnt :) daht and like a nuke maybe? ;p
22. Offline

kill streaks seem kind of silly to me for this. you only get one life and once they're gone, they're gone and you still end up dying :D
23. Offline

Hi, I was just curious to find out if temporarily assigning users to a permissions group matching their class name, while in the arena, was something still in the works? I really like this mod, and would love how doing that would instantly make this compatible with other mods that use permissions (combining this with ModDamage, for example, would be quite epic) and add a whole new world of configuration.:D
24. request: please add UTF8 support for announcements.properties file.
i can't translate properly the plugin in french (all accents are missing)
25. Offline

Im still having trouble making my own classes. When i make my class the whole plugin doesnt work and i have to setup my arena all over again.
26. Offline

@garbagemule I think Ghasts should be removed from teh game for the time being. Honestly, I am not sure if it is just the way my arena is setup or not, but what players on my server have been doing is nefarious!

They wait for a Ghast to spawn and then when the fireball does a split second of block damage to the wall or floor, they slip out of the arena and just idle while wave after wave builds up. They get the wave bonus without actually fighting.

Another way they have cheated is using the oddjob and chef class to build a cake and tnt room around themselves and just hunker down and idling.

And lastly, if someone can sneak into the arena in any way what so ever, they like to take the diamond armor off of the tank give it to their friend and then sell it later.

While I enjoy a good ban now and again, I lost 5 people in one hour to these cheats and I have had to nuke all your classes so that they have no placeable blocks in their inventory.
27. Offline

The whole point of killstreaks are to help you fight better
28. Offline

@Ratchet - It could be, yes. Let me know if it works as intended without the WG region.

@Kieron Etherimgton - v1.0.

@killinmaniac - What? Killstreaks like in Call of Duty and controlled minecarts with TNT and nukes have nothing to do with each other

@lucent - Dynamically changing groups turned out to be much more involved than I thought, and will definitely break support for other permission plugins than the one I specifically write MobArena for. You should talk to Rpa;otj - he uses both mcMMO and ModDamage combined with MobArena, and his users are raving over it ;) Alternatively, you could make different versions of the same class, where one version has an extra item, but that class is only allowed for players with a certain rank/level/whatever. "Tank lvl 1" and "Tank lvl 2" for instance.

@Misa - Are you translating yourself or using the provided French language pack? If you're translating yourself, you could simply use the ANSI-counterparts to the accented characters, which will definitely work. However, try this build, and let me know if your encoding problems still occur.

@ProXD515 - Have you still not found out what you're doing wrong? You never have to redo the arena setup no matter what you do (except if you actually remove the coords in the config-file or delete the arena). You're obviously either keeping the config-file open while setting up the arena, and then overwriting with the empty coords, or you're messing up the config-file while adding your own class, which means MobArena won't be enabled at all. Stop using improper text editors, and don't keep your config-file open while you're setting up your arena.

@fatmarley - With the many new features of v0.92, you can easily prevent all of the problems you mentioned. Set max-idle-time: x, (x > 0) and watch as your players get kicked after x seconds of not fighting (use this build (pre v0.92.4) if you don't also use the next feature). While not in the spirit of MobArena, clear-wave-before-next: true will also make sure your players can't get wave bonuses without fighting, as they are forced to kill all monsters in the current wave to advance to the next.
To prevent your players from slipping out of the arena, put some Obsidian walls around it, if possible. Unless you're using glass walls, this should be very easy to do. If you are using glass walls, make a lava moat around the arena so slipping out = instant death.
The Oddjob + Chef exploit can be remedied with either the above mentioned features, or maybe with detonate-creepers: true, which will explode all Creepers at the end of each wave (taking the fortress of cake and TNT with them).
I can't do anything (non-bloaty) about players giving their items to friends, so I suggest that you make sure to fortify your arena in a way that prevents players from entering the arena. The arena in my instructional video is a good example of a bad design, because the fence can be jumped very easily, as one of my players has discovered. 2-3-layered glass roof is your best bet.
Mess around with some of these settings, as they are there to help you manage your arenas and counter some of these exploits.

I cant place / break any block in my arena... i turned off all protection variable (protect, soft-repair, force-repair, etc.), but I cant...
Can you explain me, why?

Ps.: I can in edit mode, but in fight or out fight no

Thank you

@SeoToX - At the moment, protect doesn't actually do anything (it will later, though). You need soft-repair: true to be able to break blocks during arena matches.

Hi, can you add something in the config while allows a server operator to change whether or not armor can be damaged ?

For example

Armor-breaks: true/false

Thanks, great plugin my players love it.
