    Old description (open)
If you enjoy fighting monsters for glorious prizes or just the sheer thrill of battle, you and your friends can now join forces against hordes of Minecraft evils in the exciting gladiator-style survival mini-game MobArena!

Heavily inspired by Deminetix' Fight-plugin, MobArena is a PvE-take on arena-gameplay, with a similar class-based system. Instead of fighting other players, you team up with them to beat oncoming waves of monsters, earning rewards in the process. MobArena can be played alone, or with as many friends as you like!

    • Fight oncoming waves of monsters
    • Play alone or team up with friends
    • Earn glorious prizes
    • Customizable classes, rewards and waves
    • Easy to set up
    • Extremely easy to use
    • Very few user commands
    • Supports Permissions and all major economies
    • Supports Spout
    • Supports Heroes
Note: When you post a bug report, please provide a stacktrace/error from the server log/console window. Post this stacktrace in either a pastebin, a pastie, or a CODE-block! The same applies for config-files, permissions-files, etc! Please don't put them directly in your posts, as they become gigantic and annoying to read. If you don't follow this guideline, I might ignore your post!

Wiki - Instructions, commands, FAQ, etc.
I have set up a Wiki for MobArena. It contains a bunch of information and guides on how to set up and customize arenas, an overview of all the commands, how to set up Permissions, as well as frequently asked questions.

New: MobArena now has its own IRC channel (#mobarena @ EsperNet). Click here for a web-based IRC client. Feel free to stop by to get help setting everything up if you really don't understand the Wiki and the instructional video, or to have a chat about MobArena (or anything else, for that matter) :)

To avoid wasting not only your own time, but mine as well, I expect everyone to do some extensive troubleshooting before posting bug reports. What does this mean?

Try MobArena on a fresh server.
MobArena works perfectly fine when I release it. Sure, there are a few bugs, but it works. If it doesn't work for you, something is most likely wrong on your end. Set up a local test-server, and verify that MobArena works before claiming that it doesn't. When you have verified that MobArena does indeed work, you can start adding other plugins and settings until something conflicts.

    Disable other plugins.
The first thing you need to do is disable all other plugins. If you can't reproduce the bug with other plugins disabled, you know that you have a conflicting plugin. Now perform a binary search on the other plugins, or if you don't know how to do that, just add a couple of plugins back to the plugins-folder, try to reproduce the bug, and if you can't, the conflicting plugin must be in the remaining set of plugins.

    Write down reproduction steps.
Figure out the exact steps to reproduce/trigger the bug. I need precise steps, and as much information as possible, because there are often many things that could be going on. An example of reproduction steps could be:
    1. Type /ma join
    2. Punch the Archer class sign
    3. Wait for someone else to join
    4. Punch the iron block
    5. Type /ma leave before the other player picks a class

    Check the console window/server.log
Make sure you check the server.log file for any MobArena errors or exceptions. If you find any, copy the ENTIRE exception (including all the lines that say "at com.garbagemule.MobArena...") and paste it (with the other information) in a CODE-tag here in the thread.

I develop MobArena for the fun of it and the positive feedback is all it takes to make me happy, but a few people have asked for a link, so if you're one of them, here's a link: Donate - You can donate as much as you want, even down to a few cents! If I get enough donations, I will spend the money on an extra Minecraft account to aid me in developing/testing/debugging MobArena :)

    • Updated for CB 1337.
    • The repair-delay node is now unused! The reason for this is that it is now possible (with the release of 1317) to cancel block damage in explosions, and still retain the animation and sound! This also means that arenas should be fully pistons-compatible (for arenas that don't use soft-restore or force-restore)! I'm hoping to see some screenshots and videos of shifting arenas! :)
    • You can now right-click signs in the lobby! I finally found a super easy solution to the improperly updating inventory issue with right-clicking class signs. The result is that players can now left- or right-click as they please. This should solve all issues related to players not being able to choose classes, due to spawn region and WorldGuard/Factions/whatever conflicts.
    • It is no longer possible to warp out of the lobby.
    • New per-arena setting: final-wave - Allows for setting a final wave, meaning on that wave, the arena will end, regardless of how many players are alive.
    Version (open)

    • v0.94.3.11 - Updated Register, built against CB 1240.
    • v0.94.3.8 - Added basic leaderboards.
    • v0.94.3.6 - Fixed MagicSpells support - MobArena no longer supports MagicSpells pre-v1.1!
    • v0.94.3.5 - Fixed a bunch of bugs introduced with CB 1185, as well as a couple of minor MobArena bugs.
    • Updated for CraftBukkit #1185
    • Updated economy support (now supports iConomy 6).
    • Added the three new mob types, Enderman/Endermen, CaveSpider/CaveSpiders, Silverfish. They can be used just like the other mob types in the waves.
    • Endermen cannot pick up arena blocks (this is why).
    • Endermen cannot place blocks in arena regions.
    • The per-class permission syntax has been fixed and changed slightly. The Wiki has been updated (clicky).
    • Fixed MagicSpells issues.
    Version 0.94.2 (open)

    • Redstone circuits now work properly in arenas.
    • Lightning now properly strikes on spawnpoints on special waves.
    • Fixed an issue where players somehow warping/cheating out of the arena world get kicked from the server when discovered.
    • Added MagicSpells support. Use the magicspells.yml file to ban certain spells from the arena either for the whole session, or only during boss waves.
    • Fixed the Heroes death conflict. MobArena and Heroes should now play nice together. Further Heroes support is planned for upcoming releases.
    • [COLOR=#1000000]MobArena will no longer support the discontinued Permissions 2.x and 3.x permission systems.[/COLOR] Recommended permissions systems include PermissionsBukkit (defacto standard) or PermissionsEX.
    Version 0.94.1 (open)

    • Added two new boss abilities: 'shuffle-positions' and 'flood'. Try them out!
    • Players disconnecting/crashing during an arena session no longer get corrupted data files due to economy rewards.
    • Weapon durability is now correctly set to "unlimited".
    • Item sub-types (cocoa beans, bonemeal, colored wool, etc.) now work again.
    • Players can no longer join the arena without first picking a class.
    • MobArena now works with spawn-monsters=false again.
    Version 0.94 (open)

    • Completely revamped the waves system! Undeniably the biggest feature in MobArena since multiple arenas in v0.92, the new customizable waves are guaranteed to bring much more awesomeness to your MobArenas. The waves system brings two new wave types, swarm waves and boss waves. The latter is a very elaborate feature, and the whole waves system has been given its own page on the Wiki. Note: MobArena will ignore all old wave settings, but use sane defaults.
    • Revamped the logging system. Instead of logging: true, you can now use logging: yml/xml. The logging system will now keep track of the last session only, but also maintain a collection of 'totals' for each arena. The idea behind these easy-to-parse files is making the stats available on server web pages.
    • Added SuperPerms/PermissionsBukkit support. Note that specifying mobarena.arenas.* and mobarena.classes.* probably won't work, but these nodes are given to everyone by default.
    • Added Spout support. Currently, the only Spouty thing MobArena does is print (some) announcements as notifications/achievements. This should limit the amount of "chat spam" that MobArena produces. Other Spout-features are planned, but don't expect something crazy. Note that MobArena does NOT require Spout!
    • Monsters will no longer target pet wolves. This is a major nerf to pet classes, but they were very overpowered as it was.
    • Fixed item amounts greater than 64 sometimes bugging out. You should now be able to put arrow:1024 for your Archer classes :)
    • Fixed players losing their stored items and/or earned rewards upon disconnecting from the arena.
    • Fixed blocks not restoring when burned by fire.
    • Fixed an issue with entry fees. They should no longer cause any problems.
    • Fixed slimes. That's right! Slimes that spawn as a result of bigger slimes splitting upon death are now considered arena monsters. This also means that Slimes no longer drop slime balls; as intended.
    • Revamped the repairing algorithm. It is now MUCH more sophisticated, and is capable of repairing not only signs and containers, but also torches, doors and beds. Redstone -should- repair properly as well, but it is still slightly buggy.
    • Added support for restorable containers. Registered chests, dispensers, and furnaces will have their contents stored upon arena start, and restored at arena end. This is useful for providing the arena players with chests with e.g. upgrades or food.
    • Added new commands (for the feature above) - /ma addcontainer <name>, /ma delcontainer <name>, /ma containers. These commands work much like the the spawnpoint commands. To add a container, simply look at the container and type /ma addcontainer <name>.
    Changelog (continued)
apes, chakyl, Steffion and 64 others like this.

is there a way to allow a group (permissions) enter an arena alone where normaly the minimal players limit is set to 3?

Hey thanks! I could post my config if you want, I'm extremely proud of my bosses

@garbagemule & @Flamers : Thanks, I will just start removing all of the plugins one by one again and pay better attention this time.

I have a particularly weird issue. As an admin, if I try to play in the arena, I can one shot every monster except bosses. Any idea what could be causing it? We have mcmmo and magicspells that would impact combat.
  6. Offline

@garbagemule sorry to be the bearer of bad news. It's the MobArena plugin, that is glitching out the audio/visual explosions. I removed every plugin one by one to be sure, then I stripped all plugin except for MA. Still no A/V.

Please do, I would love to see what you have done with yours. :D

Thats strange as I get both.. I don't spose your log file is sending you any errors?

I wouldn't make every single wave random. Just a few. When the players dont know whats coming next, it can make things more interesting.

@teegee543 - Thanks for the heads up on the Wiki; it has been updated accordingly :)

@rodier - Yes, the latest version of MobArena works with Minecraft 1.8.1. I need more information to help you figure out what's going on on your setup.

@beleg - Nope, sorry. I suppose I could make an override permission, but don't expect anything soon, what with exams coming up and all. Good idea though.

@Zombiemold - There are still quite a few special block destruction/change events that I haven't quite covered in MobArena - I'm sure you understand how much stuff there is to consider - so these things will unfortunately keep popping up now and then. When I finish revamping force-restore so it isn't so slow and horrible, using that should make things a little easier to restore completely.

@Quizdonkey - Go ahead! In fact, I would suggest that you actually post the bosses in the Bosses and Waves sub-forum on BukkitDev :)

@dyrnwyn - Sounds like you have a plugin that overrides damage for you. mcMMO would definitely be a possible culprit here, since I believe it alters the damage system much like Heroes. Is it the same story with mcMMO disabled?

@Phliz - It sounds like more of a Minecraft glitch than a MobArena glitch then - if you have repair-delay: 0, however, that would be the reason. On 0, the explosion protection works exactly like that of WorldGuard and other region plugins, i.e. the explosion is simply cancelled.

<Edit by Moderator: Redacted mediafire url>
Well my config is practically only bosses haha
I meant to give the arena a sense of growth, instead of slaughtering for prizes, each boss has a specific strategy for each class to consider, so most of them you will die to at least once. Once you get past the spammy arrow skeleton that is.
the melon stem (105) the mage has can cast combust, geiser, and wall. The piston extension (34) can cast heal and prayer.
There are a total of 8 sets of replacement armor around the arena, 4 iron, 4 chainmail, because many bosses will eat through more then a full suit of armor if you give them the chance.
My trash mob waves didn't give me the results I was looking for, I do wish there was a way to add exact numbers to spawn, but oh well.
Oh, and the pumpkin stem (104) the archer has gives a very strong pushback spell, because I found the dogs to attack to fast, and make the arrows useless.
Tell me what you think! :D

@Phliz - Glad you found the problem :)

@Quizdonkey - I have to admit that this is probably one of the most complete arena setups I have ever seen. A lot of people make beautiful arenas, but most of them forget to post their config-files, so I'm sure there are more amazing setups out there. I love that you actually went ahead and customized (almost) every single wave from wave 1 to wave 40. I can really imagine the increasing difficulty on a lot of these bosses, and I can imagine how some of them must just be so horribly annoying to deal with (the mini slime that shuffles positions, brilliant!). As for adding extra numbers, I (unintentionally) secretly added health-multiplier and amount-multiplier to all non-boss waves (read about them under Common nodes). Perhaps they could help you customize your waves even further. And perhaps the default wave type's growth node could help you as well?

Oh, and for anyone who doesn't like mediafire, here's Quizdonkey's config-file in a pastebin: Clicky!
  14. Offline

    Thank you kindly! :)
The mini slime isn't that annoying actually, the worst one by far is the warp-wolf, he is damn near impossible to hit, I tested it and he can eat through 3 sets of iron armor just from how fast he hits, if you have a healer and some apples it can be done, but your finger will be very very tired by the end hehe. All classes can solo up to about the lightning aura slime, they can get past that if they are very good, but the later waves are meant for a team.
I'll look into that "secret" node to hehe :) thanks!

OK, we did some more testing. It's not mcmmo. Even with it disabled completely, we have the same bug. and, here's the weirder part....

Every time someone takes a swing and hits an enemy, EVERY enemy in the area dies. We're thinking it has to do with the magic spells mod. It only started doing this when we went in and did some repairs to the arena and had to re-establish the points on it. Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks again!

EDIT: OK, more testing done. Even with both mods shut down, it's still doing it, and we realized that hitting a creature has nothing to do with it. The monster waves just die in 5 seconds after they spawn. Weird!

EDIT 2: Ok, bug fixed. Looks like one of the other admins set up the coordinates with the l1 and l2 shortcuts. When they did that the two butted heads. Removing the L1 and l2 from the arena config file fixed it.

@dyrnwyn - Glad you found your problem! The problem sounded more to me like your arena region wasn't defined properly (the monsters would get removed if they are outside of the region). Just to make sure, can you post the coords-section of your config-file?

@Joy - Which version of CraftBukkit are you running? Sounds like it may be a special build :3

@Nickexp - Check the server.log for any errors, and please stop spamming the thread. Ask once here, not in a PM as well.

Oh, sure. Here's what it looks like now that it is fixed:

    p1: 303,86,-339,-121.80101,37.799988
    p2: 353,116,-289,-16.051098,31.800013

Here is what it looked like before we fixed it:

    p1: 303,86,-339,-121.80101,37.799988
    p2: 353,116,-289,-16.051098,31.800013
    l1: 303,86,-339,-121.80101,37.799988
    l2: 353,116,-289,-16.051098,31.800013

Don't ask me where the L1 and L2 came from. I figure a staff member did it. :D

Fk, I can't remember my idea now... Umm... Got it! (5 minutes later)

Can you make it so a sign can display the highest round completed for X number of players and display the players.
I know this is a big task but I have it broken down in my head.

Look at how sign programs are picking up variables and make yours do the same.
    First line: [arenaname]
Putting the name in [] lets you type it elsewhere. This defines the arena.
    Second line: [players]
This line will determine the number of players for variable retrieval.
Third line: [waves] , [name] , [class] , [kills]
This is the core line of the sign. Explained at the end.
    Fourth line: [page]
This is for page numbers. See below.

Basically for the 3rd and 4th lines this is how it works.
You have a grid of signs. The first row is for your titles, so a sign that says Player, or Waves Completed, or Kills. We will use the following for the sign formatting. Arena is named default and this is the 8 player leaderboard.

    Signs 1-3 are the titles.
    1: Player
    2: Class
    3: Waves Completed

Sign 4 is formatted like so.

    Sign 5:

Sign 6 line 3 is [waves]:

Signs 7-9 repeat their signs above but with page as [2].

Now I know what at least one of you must be thinking. WHATS THE OUTPUT!?!
So here it is. (EDIT: spaces in the 2nd and 3rd rows are sign splits, bukkit hated a bunch of spaces in a row)

    Player Class Waves Completed

    Sign Break-Sign Break
    Player1 Knight 24
    Player2 Tank 26
    Player3 Archer 18
    Player4 Chef 6
    Sign Break-Sign Break
    Player5 Chef 35
    Player6 Knight 28
    Player7 Oddjob 29
    Player8 Knight 32

Signs over. Lots of text by now so I'll get to the point. You can now easily see that Player5, a chef, lasted the longest until 35. Now what if you want the signs to organize themselves alphabetically by name, by class, or descending by waves completed. Well a new sign system could work.

    [players] [page]
    [reference] [Up] , [reference] [Down]

This new system fixes formatting. By combining the smallest lines we save space and free a line for organizing. The up or down is your alphabetical or reverse alphabetical, and your ascending, descending. The reference value will be the datatype of your organization. So if you wanted the above signs to organize by highest wave completed to lowest sign 4 would change to this.

    [8] [1]
    [waves] [Down]

This changes that signs output to

By formatting the other signs to that reference you can organize the signs to fit those parameters.

Well? What do you think garbagemule? I know its complex but this is how I would think to do this. I also know absolutely notihng about bukkit coding so feel free to point out the obvious flaws I should see but dont. Anyone else support this as the leaderboard design? It may be clunky but it works. If the sign lines end up being too long I think you could do it by chat command then right click the sign.

NOTE: I thought of a really simple question when I was going to post this. But these ideas just came flowing in, so they probably will have flaws. Try to PM me if you have questions.

Is there any way you can disable natural spawns in the arena?
  26. Offline

    WorldGuard can do this
  27. Offline

When I set it, first wave of mobs appear like 1 minute after start, and only few dogs, then after another 3 minutes 2nd wave announce but no mobs. When I select /ma leave it put me in center of arena (I set arena lobby properly). And at end, 2 players get bugged because when they /ma leave they were still in arena, so even after I disabled arena, they were still like in - no commands, and inventory deleted after relog.

maybe we have old version.. thanks for info :)

I have a problem... Friends on my server can't shoot a bow on MobArena until I will give them "op server".
Any suggestions how i can repair it ?!

p.s. sorry for my bad english .. :D
  29. Offline

    @goodoletom - What?

@dyrnwyn - The p1 and p2 coords look identical, so I gotta say I'm not sure what's going on. Perhaps the lobby region is interfering, like Flamers suggests. At any rate, you should find the lowest point in your arena, hit F3, and read the Y-coordinate. If this is lower than or very close to 86 (your p1.y coordinate), you need to expand your region down by a few blocks.

@lzravanger - I'm very pleased to see such devotion to making a complete suggestion, thank you! :) Your suggestion is very well thought out, and makes a lot of sense in a lot of ways. I would love to see some screenshots, since the forum auto-formatting messes up your post slightly (or you could try again in a pastebin or in a CODE-block, which both preserve the whitespace), just to really drive the point home. I'm thinking that the column headers being the individual stats is a great idea, but I'm worried about sorting - consider a spectator area with 20 players all trying to sort the leaderboards by different stats. I'm currently looking into individual packet sending, so each player can sort the stats how they see fit, and it won't affect how the signs actually look.

@SayWhat1 - Monsters don't spawn in arena regions unless the arena is running, and unless the arena is crazy big and dark enough, natural spawns won't happen during arena play either. I strongly advise against using WorldGuard regions around arena regions - it's known to cause issues.

@rodier - Sounds like you have some conflicting plugins.

@netsky456 - What do you mean by "op server", and how do you "give them" this? You probably have a conflicting plugin that deals with the shooting of bows.
  30. Offline

@garbagemule netsky is basically saying only OP's can shoot bows so yes that would be another plugin (isn't there one that changes bow properties?)

@lzravanger the only problem is when I go and test my arena I test to the last boss wave (30) so I will always be top :p if there was a way to remove an entry that would be great (especially if people exploit bugs!) You could also have a leaderboard in chat with /ma top and it could tell you the MA version it was set on :)
