Old description (open)
If you enjoy fighting monsters for glorious prizes or just the sheer thrill of battle, you and your friends can now join forces against hordes of Minecraft evils in the exciting gladiator-style survival mini-game MobArena!

Heavily inspired by Deminetix' Fight-plugin, MobArena is a PvE-take on arena-gameplay, with a similar class-based system. Instead of fighting other players, you team up with them to beat oncoming waves of monsters, earning rewards in the process. MobArena can be played alone, or with as many friends as you like!

• Fight oncoming waves of monsters
• Play alone or team up with friends
• Earn glorious prizes
• Customizable classes, rewards and waves
• Easy to set up
• Extremely easy to use
• Very few user commands
• Supports Permissions and all major economies
• Supports Spout
• Supports Heroes
Note: When you post a bug report, please provide a stacktrace/error from the server log/console window. Post this stacktrace in either a pastebin, a pastie, or a CODE-block! The same applies for config-files, permissions-files, etc! Please don't put them directly in your posts, as they become gigantic and annoying to read. If you don't follow this guideline, I might ignore your post!

Wiki - Instructions, commands, FAQ, etc.
I have set up a Wiki for MobArena. It contains a bunch of information and guides on how to set up and customize arenas, an overview of all the commands, how to set up Permissions, as well as frequently asked questions.

New: MobArena now has its own IRC channel (#mobarena @ EsperNet). Click here for a web-based IRC client. Feel free to stop by to get help setting everything up if you really don't understand the Wiki and the instructional video, or to have a chat about MobArena (or anything else, for that matter) :)

To avoid wasting not only your own time, but mine as well, I expect everyone to do some extensive troubleshooting before posting bug reports. What does this mean?

Try MobArena on a fresh server.
MobArena works perfectly fine when I release it. Sure, there are a few bugs, but it works. If it doesn't work for you, something is most likely wrong on your end. Set up a local test-server, and verify that MobArena works before claiming that it doesn't. When you have verified that MobArena does indeed work, you can start adding other plugins and settings until something conflicts.

Disable other plugins.
The first thing you need to do is disable all other plugins. If you can't reproduce the bug with other plugins disabled, you know that you have a conflicting plugin. Now perform a binary search on the other plugins, or if you don't know how to do that, just add a couple of plugins back to the plugins-folder, try to reproduce the bug, and if you can't, the conflicting plugin must be in the remaining set of plugins.

Write down reproduction steps.
Figure out the exact steps to reproduce/trigger the bug. I need precise steps, and as much information as possible, because there are often many things that could be going on. An example of reproduction steps could be:
1. Type /ma join
2. Punch the Archer class sign
3. Wait for someone else to join
4. Punch the iron block
5. Type /ma leave before the other player picks a class

Check the console window/server.log
Make sure you check the server.log file for any MobArena errors or exceptions. If you find any, copy the ENTIRE exception (including all the lines that say "at com.garbagemule.MobArena...") and paste it (with the other information) in a CODE-tag here in the thread.

I develop MobArena for the fun of it and the positive feedback is all it takes to make me happy, but a few people have asked for a link, so if you're one of them, here's a link: Donate - You can donate as much as you want, even down to a few cents! If I get enough donations, I will spend the money on an extra Minecraft account to aid me in developing/testing/debugging MobArena :)

• Updated for CB 1337.
• The repair-delay node is now unused! The reason for this is that it is now possible (with the release of 1317) to cancel block damage in explosions, and still retain the animation and sound! This also means that arenas should be fully pistons-compatible (for arenas that don't use soft-restore or force-restore)! I'm hoping to see some screenshots and videos of shifting arenas! :)
• You can now right-click signs in the lobby! I finally found a super easy solution to the improperly updating inventory issue with right-clicking class signs. The result is that players can now left- or right-click as they please. This should solve all issues related to players not being able to choose classes, due to spawn region and WorldGuard/Factions/whatever conflicts.
• It is no longer possible to warp out of the lobby.
• New per-arena setting: final-wave - Allows for setting a final wave, meaning on that wave, the arena will end, regardless of how many players are alive.
Version (open)

• v0.94.3.11 - Updated Register, built against CB 1240.
• v0.94.3.8 - Added basic leaderboards.
• v0.94.3.6 - Fixed MagicSpells support - MobArena no longer supports MagicSpells pre-v1.1!
• v0.94.3.5 - Fixed a bunch of bugs introduced with CB 1185, as well as a couple of minor MobArena bugs.
• Updated for CraftBukkit #1185
• Updated economy support (now supports iConomy 6).
• Added the three new mob types, Enderman/Endermen, CaveSpider/CaveSpiders, Silverfish. They can be used just like the other mob types in the waves.
• Endermen cannot pick up arena blocks (this is why).
• Endermen cannot place blocks in arena regions.
• The per-class permission syntax has been fixed and changed slightly. The Wiki has been updated (clicky).
• Fixed MagicSpells issues.
Version 0.94.2 (open)

• Redstone circuits now work properly in arenas.
• Lightning now properly strikes on spawnpoints on special waves.
• Fixed an issue where players somehow warping/cheating out of the arena world get kicked from the server when discovered.
• Added MagicSpells support. Use the magicspells.yml file to ban certain spells from the arena either for the whole session, or only during boss waves.
• Fixed the Heroes death conflict. MobArena and Heroes should now play nice together. Further Heroes support is planned for upcoming releases.
• MobArena will no longer support the discontinued Permissions 2.x and 3.x permission systems. Recommended permissions systems include PermissionsBukkit (defacto standard) or PermissionsEX.
Version 0.94.1 (open)

• Added two new boss abilities: 'shuffle-positions' and 'flood'. Try them out!
• Players disconnecting/crashing during an arena session no longer get corrupted data files due to economy rewards.
• Weapon durability is now correctly set to "unlimited".
• Item sub-types (cocoa beans, bonemeal, colored wool, etc.) now work again.
• Players can no longer join the arena without first picking a class.
• MobArena now works with spawn-monsters=false again.
Version 0.94 (open)

• Completely revamped the waves system! Undeniably the biggest feature in MobArena since multiple arenas in v0.92, the new customizable waves are guaranteed to bring much more awesomeness to your MobArenas. The waves system brings two new wave types, swarm waves and boss waves. The latter is a very elaborate feature, and the whole waves system has been given its own page on the Wiki. Note: MobArena will ignore all old wave settings, but use sane defaults.
• Revamped the logging system. Instead of logging: true, you can now use logging: yml/xml. The logging system will now keep track of the last session only, but also maintain a collection of 'totals' for each arena. The idea behind these easy-to-parse files is making the stats available on server web pages.
• Added SuperPerms/PermissionsBukkit support. Note that specifying mobarena.arenas.* and mobarena.classes.* probably won't work, but these nodes are given to everyone by default.
• Added Spout support. Currently, the only Spouty thing MobArena does is print (some) announcements as notifications/achievements. This should limit the amount of "chat spam" that MobArena produces. Other Spout-features are planned, but don't expect something crazy. Note that MobArena does NOT require Spout!
• Monsters will no longer target pet wolves. This is a major nerf to pet classes, but they were very overpowered as it was.
• Fixed item amounts greater than 64 sometimes bugging out. You should now be able to put arrow:1024 for your Archer classes :)
• Fixed players losing their stored items and/or earned rewards upon disconnecting from the arena.
• Fixed blocks not restoring when burned by fire.
• Fixed an issue with entry fees. They should no longer cause any problems.
• Fixed slimes. That's right! Slimes that spawn as a result of bigger slimes splitting upon death are now considered arena monsters. This also means that Slimes no longer drop slime balls; as intended.
• Revamped the repairing algorithm. It is now MUCH more sophisticated, and is capable of repairing not only signs and containers, but also torches, doors and beds. Redstone -should- repair properly as well, but it is still slightly buggy.
• Added support for restorable containers. Registered chests, dispensers, and furnaces will have their contents stored upon arena start, and restored at arena end. This is useful for providing the arena players with chests with e.g. upgrades or food.
• Added new commands (for the feature above) - /ma addcontainer <name>, /ma delcontainer <name>, /ma containers. These commands work much like the the spawnpoint commands. To add a container, simply look at the container and type /ma addcontainer <name>.
Changelog (continued)

Ok im still getting a sheep spawned at i think wave 3 and it has the same qualities as a creeper. Yeah im on v0.94.1

@EMOberger - It currently only works with PermissionsBukkit.

@Multitallented - I think I've done what I can to make everything easy to set up and use. I've set up a bunch of Wiki pages, and I try to reply to all questions and bug reports on this thread. I appreciate the donation, but I don't see any reason for your condescending attitude, and I find your sarcasm highly misplaced. Creepers were always part of the default waves, and the arena protection works wonders, so I don't understand why you would bring this on yourself? Besides, I wrote a warning in the changelog - what more do you want from me? Do you want me to personally message you every time I make an update? Do you want an email notification? A phone call?
4. Offline

planning on adding permissions 3.1.6?
5. Offline

@EMOberger - I don't know if it's even possible to do permissions attachments with NijikoPerms, but are you using any plugins that don't support SuperPerms? Because if you don't, I highly suggest switching, as NijikoPerms are being phased out.
6. Offline

i know :/ i have just been lazy and if i have a plugin i need that does not support superperms than i'm screwed, so i was just trying to wait as long as i could.
7. Offline

@EMOberger - Would that one plugin be Heroes? If so, nag the author like there's no tomorrow! ;) I just checked, btw, and NijikoPerms doesn't allow permission attachments, meaning the work needed to support per-class permissions just isn't worth it, simply because the plugin is inactive and being phased out.

I totally know how you feel. I used to be part of many mods for Oblivion, WoW, RoM, Guild Wars, etc. and I know how much time stuff like this takes. I'm a programmer by trade (and by passion) so I'll do some tinkering if I get a chance. Working overtime this week to get a project out the door so my brain is mush but maybe I'll get a fancy lightbulb over my head :)

Could we please have arenas that are not rectangular? maybe get a basic square like normal, then individually select the blocks you want to add, then make sure the height is the same, or something like that.
11. Offline

@Multitallented - You don't have to be cheery, but you certainly don't have to be condescending or spiteful. What's wrong with saying something along the lines of "My arenas got blown to pieces because I forgot to set up my waves. Maybe you should stress that old wave configurations will be ignored with the new build." or "Just a heads up to anyone who doesn't use MobArena's own protection system, and doesn't have any sort of explosion protection around the arena: There are Creepers in the new waves by default, just like there was with the old config!" My reply to such a message would have been "I did put it in the changelog, but I'll go ahead and bold it out and post a warning." or something similar. I'm not calling you an idiot, but I am still questioning the rationale behind purposefully making your arena vulnerable, and then complaining about it getting destroyed

@Ratchet - Hmm, not sure what it could be then :/

@Draxbonai - Thanks for the report. I'll look into it.

@STALKER000 - If you really don't want the music discs to drop, you can set monster-infight: false, which will make the monsters immune to each others' damage. Not sure exactly why the monsters would still drop items, but I'll take a closer look when I get time.

@HexedGoth - I'll look into it. Thanks for the report :)

@Jube0569 - I'm not sure what the problem is? Do you have exploding sheep in your config-file or not?

@Joseph Pearson - If you can find time to look through the code, that'd definitely take a load off of my shoulders. Not sure exactly what it could be, but my best guess is that it has to do with the way redstone reacts when it is repaired in MobArena.

@swift_fox24 - Nope, sorry. The regions are boxes for a good reason. It's very, very fast to check if an explosion or block break happens inside of a box, compared to checking individual blocks, and I won't sacrifice performance for something that really is a non-issue. What keeps you from making the region span a bit of air outside the actual geometry? Is your arena perhaps extremely close to other buildings?

First thing I am going to say is that this is an awesome plugin that I use all the time on my server.

There are a couple things I would like to suggest as I would like to use this plug in for a certain game I am creating.

Using a multitude of plugins on my server I am recreating Nazi Zombies from Call of Duty. I have everything set up yet I would like to have a set time between the rounds and that people could repair their building during.

I found an interesting bug with the latest release...
It seems as if bosses (and spawning in general) are a bit bugged, I'll explain this in a moment....

Anyways, When a wave spawns, that wave disappears entirely and is replaced by another wave after a (very short) period of time.
The waves cycle too fast to barely kill even one monster, no matter if 'clear-wave-before-next' is true or not.
changing the value of 'wave interval' doesn't affect wave spawn rates either.

Anyways, back to boss spawning, when the above happens with a boss, the boss disappears, but continues to use its special attacks.
Also, if you quit an arena after fighting said glitched boss, if you rejoin the arena, he continues to hit you with special attacks... IN THE LOBBY.

There are no errors in the console.

Thanks. :p
Hope you can find a fix for this soon! It kinda... Makes the plugin unusable...
Plus the players on my server can cheat and farm items out of it now.

@immacrazyaussie - Glad you got it working :)

@Buckethead - Re-download the MobArena.jar file. The one you're using has been corrupted somehow.

@fireburns44 - Perhaps you can work around the lack of in-between wave delays by pushing the wave-interval a bit higher, and setting clear-wave-before-next: false?

@Ratchet - There is unfortunately some sort of problem with chunks in CB #1060 (1063 changes), so that might be the problem. It also looks like it might actually be Spout that's generating the exception. I've had a few strange exceptions with Spout myself, but sometimes from other plugins, and sometimes with CraftBukkit itself. Did it break anything?

@STALKER000 - I know, and I agree! I prefer to have it on myself :3

@L24D - It sounds very odd with the waves cycling too fast. Could you please try posting your config-file in a pastebin so I can try out your setup, because I can't seem to reproduce this. The boss issue, I could reproduce by tearing down a wall in my arena and pushing the boss outside. A safety measure in MobArena will remove a monster if it is outside of the region, but it doesn't take into account whether or not the monster is a boss. I added a sanity-check in the beginning of the ability method to first check if the boss is still alive, and it seems to have fixed that issue. You can find the bugfix build here: Clicky. Will you please confirm that this fixes the issue with the boss? :)

Feature request:

Add some "entry-fee-recipient" config option. This, obviously, sends the entry fee to the named player. I guess make that only work for iConomy currency, as items might get complicated :p

Can you please add the average wave each class gets to in the logging?
And the highest wave each player has ever gotten?

The first of those will help balance classes, and the 2nd will show me who has gone the furthest, and I use to give them a special Arena Cape. With the new logging, though, its impossible to tell who has gone the furthest.

I have same boss disappearance bug. They just disappear and continue casting spells on you. I tried removing all plugins, leaving only permissionsEx but they still dissapeared.
I also tried new build suggested to L34D but it not helped.

I know this is garbagemule's thread, but:
That's what it's set to display, I'd also like to see a help with pages similar to Regios or Citizens, but for now you CAN use the commands- you just need to check the wiki. There is also a new command or popup (I forget now, but I saw it when I updated/made a new arena) that shows what you need to make the arena functional. I believe it included the commands. Of course if I am mistaken then I do apologize- I am assuming about what steps you're taking to set up and what all you've tried. Second, I'd check if you're an OP then permissions and the usual gambit of what's blocking your ability to do commands.

Sorry: silly question but are you an Op for your server? (or Admin or whatever if you are using permissions etc?) If you are hosting, in the console (black screen that first pops up) type "/op your-name-here" . Depending on what plugins are used there are all kinds of different ways to be allowed (or blocked) from using commands.

Found another funky happening but I can't really make it happen again. When getting blown sky-high by the supercharged creepers I died somewhere in the air/in a pillar/who knows. I died and the arena ended as it should no problem, but after a few minutes doing my own thing I decided to dump my bags into storage and got the "No sharing allowed" message from MA (as if i hadn't left). Typing /leave fixed it. Have not been able to replicate and am assuming it's just a glitch where the /leave code didn't fire.

Thanks @garbagemule, this is awesome! A very well polished plug-in.

• If you have multiple arenas each charging money, and attempt to join Arena A, whilst spectating in Arena B, you are charged A's cost but then blocked from joining (warping out of B is blocked). If you can't join A, it shouldn't charge anything. Players should be forced to use "/ma leave" before switching to a different arena.
• Occasionally the inventory does not seem to be restored correctly after leaving, but the correct items are actually there and can be used - the inventory just shows the wrong items. Disconnecting and re-connecting fixes the problem... but it'd be nice if you were able to track down the cause of the bug and rectify it :)
• Prevent people from playing if they don't have enough money (I use BOSEconomy and it allows the player's balance to go under zero)
• Allow us to set a default arena (when there are multiple arenas). This would be the one that is joined when simply using "/ma join" or "/ma spectate", rather than the arena name being a requirement in multi-arena set-ups.
• When defining a new arena, it should by default use the same settings (wave mobs & rewards) as the default arena uses (see request #2 above). Most of my arenas use similar or exactly the same settings, so this would be a massive time saver. I don't have a GUI access to my server and therefore can't simply copy/paste config file contents.
• Somehow prevent players from leaving the area. I've got at least one player that has walked through the walls - having some kind of check to see that a player is still in the arena area would combat client mods like this.

max-idle-time: 25 doesnt seem to work at all I was able to stay idle for an hour lol
Also seems like using pig or chicken bosses (didnt test other animals yet) never works no bosses spawn at all no errors in logs at all..
Edit : idle time works only with normal waves my bad :)
