    Hi guys,
I run a Minecraft server and recently I updated my server to Bukkit 1.3.1 R2.0. When I went onto my server all of the buy/sell signs weren't working. So I went into the Essentials config file and noticed that everything had been reset. My previous config fine was in the same folder labeled"config.yml.broken". I replaced the new config file with a new one with my settings, but as soon as I restarted the server, it reset. I have tried this multiple times and have even got the latest Essentials, but nothing works. Can someone please help me?

    Moved to Bukkit Help!

The folks behind the Essentials plugin have a nice big link on their plugin's forum thread, titled "How to get Help", so that would probably be the best place to start.

When it comes to config files in general, you're usually better off keeping each of the config.yml files (newly-generated and old-but-broken) open in a separate window, then just compare each option back and forth, editing the new one with the values from the old one, until you reach the bottom. That way, you're not just copying the corruption into the new file, causing it to be regenerated over and over again.

They need to make it bigger. :3

  4. post a copy of your config and ill look over it for you.
alternatively, paste it here and it will tell you what the problem is.

I tried this website but I've never used before. Can you please tell me what this means?

    # When a command conflicts with another plugin, by default, Essentials will try to force the OTHER plugin to take
    # priority. If a command is in this list, Essentials will try to give ITSELF priority. This does not always work:
    # usually whichever plugin was updated most recently wins out. However, the full name of the command will always work.
    # For example, if WorldGuard and Essentials are both enabled, and WorldGuard takes control over /god, /essentials:god
    # will still map to Essentials, whereas it might normally get forced upon WorldGuard. Commands prefixed with an "e",
    # such as /egod, will always grant Essentials priority.
    # We should try to take priority over /god. If this doesn't work, use
    # /essentials:god or /egod. If god is set using WorldGuard, use /ungod to remove then use whichever you see fit.

Sorry about that, I didn't relize that I had to use code tags. I have fixed the problem. Cheers.

  8. you problem is with this part:
    Code:
    # Do we want to give users anything on first join? Set to '' to disable
      # This kit will be given regardless of cost, and permissions.
      #kit: ''
      kit: "<<=====THIS BIT
the quotes at the end need to be made of 2 separate apostrophes ( ' )

    and this part:
    Code:
    # Should we announce to the server when someone logs in for the first time?
      # If so, use this format, replacing {DISPLAYNAME} with the player name.
      # If not, set to ''
      #announce-format: ''
announce-format: '&dWelcome {DISPLAYNAME}&d to Dra'ser Server! Please read the signs downstairs. Have fun!'
the problem here is with "Dra'ser" because apostrophes are used to denote the where the text starts, it gets confused when it finds one in the middle of a sentence. you can fix this by changing the apostrophes at the start and end to quotes ( " )

the end of your file should look like this:
    Code:
    ############################################################
    # +------------------------------------------------------+ #
    # | Essentials Spawn / New Players | #
    # +------------------------------------------------------+ #
    ############################################################

    newbies:
      # Should we announce to the server when someone logs in for the first time?
      # If so, use this format, replacing {DISPLAYNAME} with the player name.
      # If not, set to ''
      #announce-format: ''
announce-format: "&dWelcome {DISPLAYNAME}&d to Dra'ser Server! Please read the signs downstairs. Have fun!"

      # When we spawn for the first time, which spawnpoint do we use?
      # Set to "none" if you want to use the spawn point of the world.
      spawnpoint: newbies

    Hey guys,
Thank you so much for your help. I have managed to be able to get the server running again. I greatly appreciate it. If you are interested, my server is going public (it is currently whitelisted) on the first of September. The IP is 184.171.251.243:25577. I will later post a link on this thread to the Planet Minecraft site for the server. Thanks again for your help. Cheers.
