Do I have to you EssentialsChat or HeroChat for Factions?

I read through the documentation and I'm not really getting how the new chat system works. I'm using my plugin SupaChat to handle my prefixes and stuff and I wanted to know if I can still use it, and have the faction tag without making changes to the code. I posted a thread here, trying to get info on how to setup my chat to work with factions. Any help is appreciated, sorry for a commonly asked question :/
