DDoS Server Protection?

Hello, my server has been through DDoS attacks numerous times, so I had a friend try out a DDoS software to be sure it was the problem and of course it did that same thing at happened when the actual people attacked my server. How do I know they used DDoS? Well first off they told me and I banned them, then a HUGE amount of lag came in and the server crashed, after several restarts it stopped. Is there ANY way to fix this? I read I should report them to the police with there IP address which sounds ridiculous. If there is any way to stop this like a plug in or something can anyone help? Thanks.

I don't really think a plugin could do that, it would be more of a Firewall type thing I think. (I have no experience with DDOS attacks, though)

 

You cannot do DDoS protection at the CraftBukkit server level. You need to mitigate the attacks at your firewall.

If its a home based server with consumer network gear, you need to investigate if your gear can do anything to stop it. If its a hosted server - talk to your host.

If you're running Linux, use (D)DoS Deflate. If you're using Windows, I'm sure there is similar software out there.

 

You might be able to block IP's in your router or firewall. However, they can use proxies to change their IP.

 

Just because your firewall blocks them from connecting does not mean that their downstream won't saturate your network.

You need to get it blocked at the switch level.
