A new CraftBukkit Beta Build (1.4.2-R0.2) that provides Minecraft 1.4.2 compatibility and fixes serious issues in CraftBukkit 1.4.2-R0.1 is now available. The previous beta is considered broken and will be marked as such on dl.bukkit.org, as a result updating to this beta is highly recommended.

Will plugins break with this build?
Provided the developers of the plugins you are using are keeping up with the development of Bukkit, all your plugins should work fine. Unless we specifically have to break plugins or the plugins you are using are employing inappropriate practises, most plugins should work without needing an update whenever we put out a new release.

    What is a Beta build?
A Beta Build is in between a developer build and a Recommended Build. These builds simply work and are promoted much more frequently than a Recommended Build. While we will do some testing before promoting a beta build, we will not be running it through our extensive test process. As such, there are no guarantees that they will not contain minor bugs. If we do find out they are broken, we will mark it as such on DLB and promote a new one. A beta build may contain incomplete API and new features but they should not interfere with running the build in any way.

This particular Beta build is primarily a fix for the first beta and, as such, should still be given the same considerations as our first beta build. Please consider running this Beta build to give us a hand with discovering issues we need to address in order to reach a Recommended Build.

    Notes:
The release of Minecraft 1.3 introduced built in auto-save functionality that is completely new to Minecraft: prior to this release, server admins had to provide their own means to save things on their server at a set interval. As a result, the vast majority of servers already have an auto-saving mechanism of some sort, rendering the newly provided built in auto-save largely redundant. On top of this, it was also immediately noticeable that the built in auto-save was the cause of a significant performance hit to the server, even going so far as to lock up the server each time it ran.

Bearing this in mind, we decided the best course of action was to make the auto-save interval configurable and default to being disabled. By doing so we immediately saw a noticeable performance increase on servers and noticed overwhelmingly positive feedback on our Beta builds. While some might argue that this could leave servers without frequent saving, this change simply reverts behaviour back to what server admins are familiar with from Minecraft 1.2.5.

As mentioned before, we have made the auto-save interval configurable and disableable within the bukkit.yml. Simply set "ticks-per.autosave" to the number of ticks you want between each save or set it to 0 to disable it completely and use a script or plugin to manage it instead.

    Notable Changes:
    • Fixed crash caused by plugins that allow players to change art. See BUKKIT-2667 for more information.
    • Fixed generated structures not retaining their data after a server restart. See BUKKIT-2760 for more information.
    • Fixed time and player time not working. See BUKKIT-2797 for more information.
    • Fixed a bug that resulted in world data not being preserved when switching from vanilla Minecraft to Bukkit. See BUKKIT-2760 and BUKKIT-2816 for more information.
    Known Issues:
    • Monsters, villagers, etc. using portals (added in Minecraft 1.4) has been temporarily disabled.
For more detailed information on what is contained in this update, please see the changelog here.

So I updated assuming this was mostly stable, all signs got reset and whenever i tried to re-join i got a black screen, went back to 1.3 and it was fixed. Anybody else have this issue?
Guess i'll wait for the recommended release.

I don't have random crashes. Try posting your crash reports, server.log and other relevant information in Bukkit Help.

Seems like there's been no dev updates since Friday evening/Saturday morning. Three days without any updates is making the public think you're skipping 1.4.2 and going straight for a 1.4.3 release. In any event, if there's a hold up maybe it's better to disclose what the problem is instead of keeping the masses wondering (and gossiping). ;)

Its not possible that we've skipped 1.4.2, we have multiple dev builds and two beta builds already. However, unlike previous releases of Minecraft, we decided to take more advantage of our Beta system and release those immediately instead of releasing an RB immediately.

We will not mark a build as a Beta if we know there major bugs in that build.

Good point. Lets take down all 1.4.2 builds. No point keeping them up, right?

The craftbukkit Dev releases have run smoothly for me up to 1.4.2-R0.2 -5 #2452. At #2453 with no other changes I got a Arrayindexoutofboundsexception in 3 of the 13 worlds I run and those 3 would not load. Seems to be coming from the chunkmanagers and worldgenerators.
If I go back to #2452 I run fine. Ran Minecraft region fixer on the the worlds and found no problem. I am running 14 or so plugins but am not changing anything there for this only changing to CB #2453 Have the latest plugins that are available for now. Everything above #2453 has the same problem.
The only changes indicated in #2453 is that the potion test was improved. What changed. What am I looking for to fix in these 3 worlds that was passing in #2452?? I am ok and running server on #2452 for now but need to know how to move forward.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Hello, I would like to know when will go out the Stable version of bukkit? Thank you

You realize you just told us that a build that had no changes to the codebase at all caused your server to stop functioning? Please, use the Bukkit Help forum for assistance as there is something else going on, not the build, causing your issue.

This Beta build is stable. I have ran it on my server for over 48 hours straight without a crash or otherwise noticeable issue.

I'm not saying it is not stable, is that I am devellopeur of a french server and I can not seem to import as it should bukkit, there are plenty of errors in material.java

TnT, I was wondering, if I had a vanilla map, and then changed over to a bukkit server, would that effect the world generation? please reply

thye always can make "recommended" build special for him.
i never said anything about "taking down",i said, that i don't see the point in development it further, when 1.4.3 is near.i'm not a dev,so i don't know how things are works,i just use common sense.

Your idea of common sense doesn't make sense to me. Without the update for 1.4.2, which happened before there was a 1.4.3, the community would be without a functioning 1.4.2 server. So yes, Mojang is planning on a 1.4.3, but that doesn't mean we should not keep up with the changes. Since Mojang always improves, and always releases new updates, your "common sense" dictates we should stop all development until Mojang quits updating Minecraft, as there will always be a new release following the current one.
