Competing Permissions Plugins? Need official Bukkit permissions.

Okay, this wasn't a big deal before when everyone was using the same plugin for permissions support, but now that there's competition, it's pretty apparent that the real loser in this scenario is the guy who has to set up his bukkit server. It essentially doubles your workload for managing users because there are plugins that only support one or the other.

Sometimes competition is a good thing. But over something like this, it's not. It's really not. We really need official Bukkit support for permissions.

Pretty much everything either uses the Permissions plugin or is a wrapper/pass-through. There does seem to be some confusion between the permissions system and the interface to that system. Groups and GroupManager should simply be front ends (except GM seems to be on an ego trip).

I just hope the file format settles to one standard rather than the incompatibilities introduced by GM.

 

I personally find GM to be alot easier to use than permissions, but an official release would help out alot

 

It is being worked on. The permissions system itself is done, they're just working on a persistence engine to handle data like that, as well as others.
