Greetings fellow crafters. Since the 1.3.1 update, my server is very slow in chunk loading and even slower in chunk unloading. If I travel a distance across the server (flying) most times, the chunks below me do not even generate. If I then make a stop and look back, it looks like this: I have checked all plugins, even without any plugin this happens. I have to add, that this does NOT happen if I use a teleport. After waiting a few minutes, the distant chunks start to unload, about one every 10 or 15 seconds. Any ideas?
I think this is just the result of the changes made in 1.3 and how chunks packets get sent and received from the server and the client. It has not yet been optimized quite as well as most of us would like but it is kind of the way it is at this point. If you fly faster than 1.5 to 2x creative speed the chunks kind of fall behind and if you stop and wait they typically will catch up. I have this even running my worlds on a ramdrive with tmpfs in linux. It reminds me of the old chunk issues we had back in alpha and beta 1.0. It may get better over time as they find ways to compress and optimize chunk packets. This is my opinion I have no facts to back any of this up, just observations from running my servers for almost 2 years.
